بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ الْكِتَٰبِ الْحَكِيمِ[1]

Aliflamra tilka ayatu alkitabi alhakeemi

Alif, Lâm, Râ. Voici les versets du Livre plein de sagesse.

A. L. R. These are the ayats of the Book of Wisdom.

أَكَانَ لِلنَّاسِ عَجَبًا أَنْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَنْ أَنذِرِ النَّاسَ وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنَّ لَهُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۗ قَالَ الْكَٰفِرُونَ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَٰحِرٌ مُّبِينٌ[2]

Akana lilnnasi AAajaban an awhayna ila rajulin minhum an anthiri alnnasa wabashshiri allatheena amanoo anna lahum qadama sidqin AAinda rabbihim qala alkafiroona inna hatha lasahirun mubeenun

Est-il étonnant pour les gens, que Nous ayons révélé à un homme d'entre eux: «Avertis les gens, et annonce la bonne nouvelle aux croyants qu'ils ont auprès de leur Seigneur une présence méritée [pour leur loyauté antérieure]? Les mécréants dirent alors: «Celui-ci est certainement un magicien évident».

Is it a matter of wonderment to men that We have sent Our inspiration to a man from among themselves?- that he should warn mankind (of their danger), and give the good news to the Believers that they have before their Lord the lofty rank of truth. (But) say the Unbelievers: "This is indeed an evident sorcerer!"

إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِى خَلَقَ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ ۖ مَا مِن شَفِيعٍ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِذْنِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوهُ ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ[3]

Inna rabbakumu Allahu allathee khalaqa alssamawati waalarda fee sittati ayyamin thumma istawa AAala alAAarshi yudabbiru alamra ma min shafeeAAin illa min baAAdi ithnihi thalikumu Allahu rabbukum faoAAbudoohu afala tathakkaroona

Votre Seigneur est, Allah qui créa les cieux et la terre en six jours, puis S'est établi «Istawâ» sur le Trône, administrant toute chose. Il n'y a d'intercesseur qu'avec Sa permission. Tel est Allah votre Seigneur. Adorez-Le donc. Ne réfléchissez-vous pas?

Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?

إِلَيْهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعًا ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَبْدَؤُا۟ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ لِيَجْزِىَ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ بِالْقِسْطِ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْفُرُونَ[4]

Ilayhi marjiAAukum jameeAAan waAAda Allahi haqqan innahu yabdao alkhalqa thumma yuAAeeduhu liyajziya allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati bialqisti waallatheena kafaroo lahum sharabun min hameemin waAAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakfuroona

C'est vers Lui que vous retournerez tous, c'est là, la promesse d'Allah en toute vérité! C'est Lui qui fait la création une première fois puis la refait (en la ressuscitant) afin de rétribuer en toute équité ceux qui ont cru et fait de bonnes œuvres. Quant à ceux qui n'ont pas cru, ils auront un breuvage d'eau bouillante et un châtiment douloureux à cause de leur mécréance!

To Him will be your return- of all of you. The promise of Allah is true and sure. It is He Who beginneth the process of creation, and repeateth it, that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness; but those who reject Him will have draughts of boiling fluids, and a penalty grievous, because they did reject Him.

هُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ ضِيَآءً وَالْقَمَرَ نُورًا وَقَدَّرَهُۥ مَنَازِلَ لِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ السِّنِينَ وَالْحِسَابَ ۚ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۚ يُفَصِّلُ الْءَايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ[5]

Huwa allathee jaAAala alshshamsa diyaan waalqamara nooran waqaddarahu manazila litaAAlamoo AAadada alssineena waalhisaba ma khalaqa Allahu thalika illa bialhaqqi yufassilu alayati liqawmin yaAAlamoona

C'est Lui qui a fait du soleil une clarté et de la lune une lumière, et Il en a déterminé les phases afin que vous sachiez le nombre des années et le calcul (du temps). Allah n'a créé cela qu'en toute vérité. Il expose les signes pour les gens doués de savoir.

It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon to be a light (of beauty), and measured out stages for her; that ye might know the number of years and the count (of time). Nowise did Allah create this but in truth and righteousness. (Thus) doth He explain His Signs in detail, for those who understand.

إِنَّ فِى اخْتِلَٰفِ الَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَمَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَّقُونَ[6]

Inna fee ikhtilafi allayli waalnnahari wama khalaqa Allahu fee alssamawati waalardi laayatin liqawmin yattaqoona

Dans l'alternance de la nuit et du jour, et aussi dans tout ce qu'Allah a créé dans les cieux et la terre, il y a des signes, certes, pour des gens qui craignent (Allah).

Verily, in the alternation of the night and the day, and in all that Allah hath created, in the heavens and the earth, are signs for those who fear Him.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا وَرَضُوا۟ بِالْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا وَاطْمَأَنُّوا۟ بِهَا وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِنَا غَٰفِلُونَ[7]

Inna allatheena la yarjoona liqaana waradoo bialhayati alddunya waitmaannoo biha waallatheena hum AAan ayatina ghafiloona

Ceux qui n'espèrent pas Notre rencontre, qui sont satisfaits de la vie présente et s'y sentent en sécurité, et ceux qui sont inattentifs à Nos signes [ou versets],

Those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present, and those who heed not Our Signs,-

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مَأْوَىٰهُمُ النَّارُ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ[8]

Olaika mawahumu alnnaru bima kanoo yaksiboona

leur refuge sera le Feu, pour ce qu'ils acquéraient.

Their abode is the Fire, because of the (evil) they earned.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ يَهْدِيهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِإِيمَٰنِهِمْ ۖ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهِمُ الْأَنْهَٰرُ فِى جَنَّٰتِ النَّعِيمِ[9]

Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati yahdeehim rabbuhum bieemanihim tajree min tahtihimu alanharu fee jannati alnnaAAeemi

Ceux qui croient et font de bonnes œuvres, leur Seigneur les guidera à cause de leur foi. A leurs pieds les ruisseaux couleront dans les Jardins des délices.

Those who believe, and work righteousness,- their Lord will guide them because of their faith: beneath them will flow rivers in gardens of bliss.

دَعْوَىٰهُمْ فِيهَا سُبْحَٰنَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَتَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلَٰمٌ ۚ وَءَاخِرُ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَٰلَمِينَ[10]

DaAAwahum feeha subhanaka allahumma watahiyyatuhum feeha salamun waakhiru daAAwahum ani alhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena

Là, leur invocation sera «Gloire à Toi, O Allah», et leur salutation: «Salâm», [Paix!] et la fin de leur invocation: «Louange à Allah, Seigneur de l'Univers».

(This will be) their cry therein: "Glory to Thee, O Allah!" And "Peace" will be their greeting therein! and the close of their cry will be: "Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!"

۞ وَلَوْ يُعَجِّلُ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ الشَّرَّ اسْتِعْجَالَهُم بِالْخَيْرِ لَقُضِىَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ فَنَذَرُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا فِى طُغْيَٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ[11]

Walaw yuAAajjilu Allahu lilnnasi alshsharra istiAAjalahum bialkhayri laqudiya ilayhim ajaluhum fanatharu allatheena la yarjoona liqaana fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

Et si Allah hâtait le malheur des gens avec autant de hâte qu'ils cherchent le bonheur, le terme de leur vie aurait été décrété. Mais Nous laissons ceux qui n'espèrent pas Notre rencontre confus et hésitants dans leur transgression.

If Allah were to hasten for men the ill (they have earned) as they would fain hasten on the good,- then would their respite be settled at once. But We leave those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, in their trespasses, wandering in distraction to and fro.

وَإِذَا مَسَّ الْإِنسَٰنَ الضُّرُّ دَعَانَا لِجَنۢبِهِۦٓ أَوْ قَاعِدًا أَوْ قَآئِمًا فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُ ضُرَّهُۥ مَرَّ كَأَن لَّمْ يَدْعُنَآ إِلَىٰ ضُرٍّ مَّسَّهُۥ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ[12]

Waitha massa alinsana alddurru daAAana lijanbihi aw qaAAidan aw qaiman falamma kashafna AAanhu durrahu marra kaan lam yadAAuna ila durrin massahu kathalika zuyyina lilmusrifeena ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Et quand le malheur touche l'homme, il fait appel à Nous, couché sur le côté, assis, ou debout. Puis quand Nous le délivrons de son malheur, il s'en va comme s'il ne Nous avait point imploré pour un mal qui l'a touché. C'est ainsi que furent embellies aux outranciers leurs actions.

When trouble toucheth a man, He crieth unto Us (in all postures)- lying down on his side, or sitting, or standing. But when We have solved his trouble, he passeth on his way as if he had never cried to Us for a trouble that touched him! thus do the deeds of transgressors seem fair in their eyes!

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا الْقُرُونَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا۟ ۙ وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِيُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى الْقَوْمَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ[13]

Walaqad ahlakna alquroona min qablikum lamma thalamoo wajaathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati wama kanoo liyuminoo kathalika najzee alqawma almujrimeena

Nous avons fait périr les générations d'avant vous lorsqu'elles eurent été injustes alors que leurs messagers leur avaient apporté des preuves. Cependant, elles n'étaient pas disposées à croire. C'est ainsi que Nous rétribuons les gens criminels.

Generations before you We destroyed when they did wrong: their messengers came to them with clear-signs, but they would not believe! thus do We requite those who sin!

ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَٰكُمْ خَلَٰٓئِفَ فِى الْأَرْضِ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ لِنَنظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ[14]

Thumma jaAAalnakum khalaifa fee alardi min baAAdihim linanthura kayfa taAAmaloona

Puis nous fîmes de vous des successeurs sur terre après eux, pour voir comment vous agiriez.

Then We made you heirs in the land after them, to see how ye would behave!

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَاتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٍ ۙ قَالَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَآءَنَا ائْتِ بِقُرْءَانٍ غَيْرِ هَٰذَآ أَوْ بَدِّلْهُ ۚ قُلْ مَا يَكُونُ لِىٓ أَنْ أُبَدِّلَهُۥ مِن تِلْقَآئِ نَفْسِىٓ ۖ إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّى عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ[15]

Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna bayyinatin qala allatheena la yarjoona liqaana iti biquranin ghayri hatha aw baddilhu qul ma yakoonu lee an obaddilahu min tilqai nafsee in attabiAAu illa ma yooha ilayya innee akhafu in AAasaytu rabbee AAathaba yawmin AAatheemin

Et quand leur sont récités Nos versets en toute clarté, ceux qui n'espèrent pas notre rencontre disent: «Apporte un Coran autre que celui-ci» ou bien «Change-le». Dis: «Il ne m'appartient pas de le changer de mon propre chef. Je ne fais que suivre ce qui m'est révélé. Je crains, si je désobéis à mon Seigneur, le châtiment d'un jour terrible».

But when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them, those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, Say: "Bring us a reading other than this, or change this," Say: "It is not for me, of my own accord, to change it: I follow naught but what is revealed unto me: if I were to disobey my Lord, I should myself fear the penalty of a Great Day (to come)."

قُل لَّوْ شَآءَ اللَّهُ مَا تَلَوْتُهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَآ أَدْرَىٰكُم بِهِۦ ۖ فَقَدْ لَبِثْتُ فِيكُمْ عُمُرًا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ[16]

Qul law shaa Allahu ma talawtuhu AAalaykum wala adrakum bihi faqad labithtu feekum AAumuran min qablihi afala taAAqiloona

Dis: «Si Allah avait voulu, je ne vous l'aurais pas récité et Il ne vous l'aurait pas non plus fait connaître. Je suis bien resté, avant cela, tout un âge parmi vous. Ne raisonnez-vous donc pas?»

Say: "If Allah had so willed, I should not have rehearsed it to you, nor would He have made it known to you. A whole life-time before this have I tarried amongst you: will ye not then understand?"

فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ[17]

Faman athlamu mimmani iftara AAala Allahi kathiban aw kaththaba biayatihi innahu la yuflihu almujrimoona

Qui est plus injuste que celui qui invente un mensonge contre Allah, ou qui traite de mensonges Ses versets (le Coran)? Vraiment, les criminels ne réussissent pas.

Who doth more wrong than such as forge a lie against Allah, or deny His Signs? But never will prosper those who sin.

وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ شُفَعَٰٓؤُنَا عِندَ اللَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَتُنَبِّـُٔونَ اللَّهَ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِى الْأَرْضِ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ[18]

WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yadurruhum wala yanfaAAuhum wayaqooloona haolai shufaAAaona AAinda Allahi qul atunabbioona Allaha bima la yaAAlamu fee alssamawati wala fee alardi subhanahu wataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

Ils adorent au lieu d'Allah ce qui ne peut ni leur nuire ni leur profiter et disent: «Ceux-ci sont nos intercesseurs auprès d'Allah». Dis: «Informerez-vous Allah de ce qu'Il ne connaît pas dans les cieux et sur la terre?» Pureté à Lui, Il est Très élevé au-dessus de ce qu'Ils Lui associent!

They serve, besides Allah, things that hurt them not nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allah." Say: "Do ye indeed inform Allah of something He knows not, in the heavens or on earth?- Glory to Him! and far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)!"

وَمَا كَانَ النَّاسُ إِلَّآ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً فَاخْتَلَفُوا۟ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِيمَا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ[19]

Wama kana alnnasu illa ommatan wahidatan faikhtalafoo walawla kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laqudiya baynahum feema feehi yakhtalifoona

Les gens ne formaient (à l'origine) qu'une seule communauté. Puis ils divergèrent. Et si ce n'était une décision préalable de ton Seigneur, les litiges qui les opposaient auraient été tranchés.

Mankind was but one nation, but differed (later). Had it not been for a word that went forth before from thy Lord, their differences would have been settled between them.

وَيَقُولُونَ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۖ فَقُلْ إِنَّمَا الْغَيْبُ لِلَّهِ فَانتَظِرُوٓا۟ إِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُنتَظِرِينَ[20]

Wayaqooloona lawla onzila AAalayhi ayatun min rabbihi faqul innama alghaybu lillahi faintathiroo innee maAAakum mina almuntathireena

Et ils disent: «Que ne fait-on descendre sur lui (Muhammad) un miracle de son Seigneur?» Alors, dis: «L'inconnaissable relève seulement d'Allah. Attendez donc; je serai avec vous parmi ceux qui attendent.

They say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "The Unseen is only for Allah (to know), then wait ye: I too will wait with you."

وَإِذَآ أَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَةً مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتْهُمْ إِذَا لَهُم مَّكْرٌ فِىٓ ءَايَاتِنَا ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ أَسْرَعُ مَكْرًا ۚ إِنَّ رُسُلَنَا يَكْتُبُونَ مَا تَمْكُرُونَ[21]

Waitha athaqna alnnasa rahmatan min baAAdi darraa massathum itha lahum makrun fee ayatina quli Allahu asraAAu makran inna rusulana yaktuboona ma tamkuroona

Et quand Nous faisons goûter aux gens une miséricorde après qu'un malheur les a touchés, voilà qu'ils dénigrent Nos versets. Dis: «Allah est plus prompt à réprimer (ceux qui dénigrent Ses versets)». Car Nos anges enregistrent vos dénigrements.

When We make mankind taste of some mercy after adversity hath touched them, behold! they take to plotting against Our Signs! Say: "Swifter to plan is Allah!" Verily, Our messengers record all the plots that ye make!

هُوَ الَّذِى يُسَيِّرُكُمْ فِى الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا كُنتُمْ فِى الْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِم بِرِيحٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا جَآءَتْهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِفٌ وَجَآءَهُمُ الْمَوْجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيطَ بِهِمْ ۙ دَعَوُا۟ اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ لَئِنْ أَنجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّٰكِرِينَ[22]

Huwa allathee yusayyirukum fee albarri waalbahri hatta itha kuntum fee alfulki wajarayna bihim bireehin tayyibatin wafarihoo biha jaatha reehun AAasifun wajaahumu almawju min kulli makanin wathannoo annahum oheeta bihim daAAawoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena lain anjaytana min hathihi lanakoonanna mina alshshakireena

C'est Lui qui vous fait aller sur terre et sur mer, quand vous êtes en bateau. [Ces bateaux] les emportèrent, grâce à un bon vent. Ils s'en réjouirent jusqu'au moment où, assaillis par un vent impétueux, assaillis de tous côtés par les vagues, se jugeant enveloppés [par la mort], ils prièrent Allah, Lui vouant le culte [et disant]: «Certes, si Tu nous sauves de ceci, nous serons parmi les reconnaissants!»

He it is Who enableth you to traverse through land and sea; so that ye even board ships;- they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they rejoice thereat; then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think they are being overwhelmed: they cry unto Allah, sincerely offering (their) duty unto Him saying, "If thou dost deliver us from this, we shall truly show our gratitude!"

فَلَمَّآ أَنجَىٰهُمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَبْغُونَ فِى الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ ۗ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُم ۖ مَّتَٰعَ الْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ[23]

Falamma anjahum itha hum yabghoona fee alardi bighayri alhaqqi ya ayyuha alnnasu innama baghyukum AAala anfusikum mataAAa alhayati alddunya thumma ilayna marjiAAukum fanunabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Lorsqu'Il les a sauvés, les voilà qui, sur terre, transgressent injustement. O gens! Votre transgression ne retombera que sur vous-mêmes. C'est une jouissance temporaire de la vie présente. Ensuite, c'est vers Nous que sera votre retour, et Nous vous rappellerons alors ce que vous faisiez.

But when he delivereth them, behold! they transgress insolently through the earth in defiance of right! O mankind! your insolence is against your own souls,- an enjoyment of the life of the present: in the end, to Us is your return, and We shall show you the truth of all that ye did.

إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ النَّاسُ وَالْأَنْعَٰمُ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذَتِ الْأَرْضُ زُخْرُفَهَا وَازَّيَّنَتْ وَظَنَّ أَهْلُهَآ أَنَّهُمْ قَٰدِرُونَ عَلَيْهَآ أَتَىٰهَآ أَمْرُنَا لَيْلًا أَوْ نَهَارًا فَجَعَلْنَٰهَا حَصِيدًا كَأَن لَّمْ تَغْنَ بِالْأَمْسِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْءَايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ[24]

Innama mathalu alhayati alddunya kamain anzalnahu mina alssamai faikhtalata bihi nabatu alardi mimma yakulu alnnasu waalanAAamu hatta itha akhathati alardu zukhrufaha waizzayyanat wathanna ahluha annahum qadiroona AAalayha ataha amruna laylan aw naharan fajaAAalnaha haseedan kaan lam taghna bialamsi kathalika nufassilu alayati liqawmin yatafakkaroona

La vie présente est comparable à une eau que Nous faisons descendre du ciel et qui se mélange à la végétation de la terre dont se nourrissent les hommes et les bêtes. Puis, lorsque la terre prend sa parure et s'embellit, et que ses habitants pensent qu'elle est à leur entière disposition, Notre Ordre lui vient, de nuit ou de jour, c'est alors que Nous la rendrons toute moissonnée, comme si elle n'avait pas été florissante la veille. Ainsi exposons-Nous les preuves pour des gens qui réfléchissent.

The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth- which provides food for men and animals: (It grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: There reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.

وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ دَارِ السَّلَٰمِ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ[25]

WaAllahu yadAAoo ila dari alssalami wayahdee man yashao ila siratin mustaqeemin

Allah appelle à la demeure de la paix et guide qui Il veut vers un droit chemin.

But Allah doth call to the Home of Peace: He doth guide whom He pleaseth to a way that is straight.

۞ لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ الْحُسْنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٌ ۖ وَلَا يَرْهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمْ قَتَرٌ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ[26]

Lillatheena ahsanoo alhusna waziyadatun wala yarhaqu wujoohahum qatarun wala thillatun olaika ashabu aljannati hum feeha khalidoona

A ceux qui agissent en bien est réservée la meilleure (récompense) et même davantage. Nulle fumée noircissante, nul avilissement ne couvriront leurs visages. Ceux-là sont les gens du Paradis, où ils demeureront éternellement.

To those who do right is a goodly (reward)- Yea, more (than in measure)! No darkness nor shame shall cover their faces! they are companions of the garden; they will abide therein (for aye)!

وَالَّذِينَ كَسَبُوا۟ السَّيِّـَٔاتِ جَزَآءُ سَيِّئَةٍۭ بِمِثْلِهَا وَتَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ مَّا لَهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ ۖ كَأَنَّمَآ أُغْشِيَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ قِطَعًا مِّنَ الَّيْلِ مُظْلِمًا ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ[27]

Waallatheena kasaboo alssayyiati jazao sayyiatin bimithliha watarhaquhum thillatun ma lahum mina Allahi min AAasimin kaannama oghshiyat wujoohuhum qitaAAan mina allayli muthliman olaika ashabu alnnari hum feeha khalidoona

Et ceux qui ont commis de mauvaises actions, la rétribution d'une mauvaise action sera l'équivalent. Un avilissement les couvrira, - pas de protecteur pour eux contre Allah -, comme si leurs visages se couvraient de lambeaux de ténèbres nocturnes. Ceux-là sont là les gens du Feu où ils demeureront éternellement.

But those who have earned evil will have a reward of like evil: ignominy will cover their (faces): No defender will they have from (the wrath of) Allah: Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the depth of the darkness of night: they are companions of the Fire: they will abide therein (for aye)!

وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ مَكَانَكُمْ أَنتُمْ وَشُرَكَآؤُكُمْ ۚ فَزَيَّلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ شُرَكَآؤُهُم مَّا كُنتُمْ إِيَّانَا تَعْبُدُونَ[28]

Wayawma nahshuruhum jameeAAan thumma naqoolu lillatheena ashrakoo makanakum antum washurakaokum fazayyalna baynahum waqala shurakaohum ma kuntum iyyana taAAbudoona

(Et rappelle-toi) le jour où Nous les rassemblerons tous. Puis, Nous dirons à ceux qui ont donné [à Allah] des associés: «A votre place, vous et vos associés.» Nous les séparerons les uns des autres et leurs associés diront: «Ce n'est pas nous que vous adoriez».

One day shall We gather them all together. Then shall We say to those who joined gods (with Us): "To your place! ye and those ye joined as 'partners' We shall separate them, and their "Partners" shall say: "It was not us that ye worshipped!

فَكَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًۢا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ إِن كُنَّا عَنْ عِبَادَتِكُمْ لَغَٰفِلِينَ[29]

Fakafa biAllahi shaheedan baynana wabaynakum in kunna AAan AAibadatikum laghafileena

Allah suffit comme témoin entre nous et vous. En vérité, nous étions indifférents à votre adoration».

"Enough is Allah for a witness between us and you: we certainly knew nothing of your worship of us!"

هُنَالِكَ تَبْلُوا۟ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّآ أَسْلَفَتْ ۚ وَرُدُّوٓا۟ إِلَى اللَّهِ مَوْلَىٰهُمُ الْحَقِّ ۖ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ[30]

Hunalika tabloo kullu nafsin ma aslafat waruddoo ila Allahi mawlahumu alhaqqi wadalla AAanhum ma kanoo yaftaroona

Là, chaque âme éprouvera (les conséquences de) ce qu'elle a précédemment accompli. Et ils seront ramenés vers Allah leur vrai Maître; et leurs inventions (idoles) s'éloigneront d'eux.

There will every soul prove (the fruits of) the deeds it sent before: they will be brought back to Allah their rightful Lord, and their invented falsehoods will leave them in the lurch.

قُلْ مَن يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَمَّن يَمْلِكُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَٰرَ وَمَن يُخْرِجُ الْحَىَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَىِّ وَمَن يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ ۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ اللَّهُ ۚ فَقُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ[31]

Qul man yarzuqukum mina alssamai waalardi amman yamliku alssamAAa waalabsara waman yukhriju alhayya mina almayyiti wayukhriju almayyita mina alhayyi waman yudabbiru alamra fasayaqooloona Allahu faqul afala tattaqoona

Dis: «Qui vous attribue de la nourriture du ciel et de la terre? Qui détient l'ouïe et la vue, et qui fait sortir le vivant du mort et fait sortir le mort du vivant, et qui administre tout?» Ils diront: «Allah». Dis alors: «Ne Le craignez-vous donc pas?»

Say: "Who is it that sustains you (in life) from the sky and from the earth? or who is it that has power over hearing and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead and the dead from the living? and who is it that rules and regulates all affairs?" They will soon say, "Allah". Say, "will ye not then show piety (to Him)?"

فَذَٰلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبُّكُمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَاذَا بَعْدَ الْحَقِّ إِلَّا الضَّلَٰلُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ[32]

Fathalikumu Allahu rabbukumu alhaqqu famatha baAAda alhaqqi illa alddalalu faanna tusrafoona

Tel est Allah, votre vrai Seigneur. Au delà de la vérité qu'y a-t-il donc sinon l'égarement? Comment alors pouvez-vous, vous détourner?»

Such is Allah, your real Cherisher and Sustainer: apart from truth, what (remains) but error? How then are ye turned away?

كَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ فَسَقُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ[33]

Kathalika haqqat kalimatu rabbika AAala allatheena fasaqoo annahum la yuminoona

C'est ainsi que s'est réalisée la parole de ton Seigneur contre ceux qui sont pervers: «Ils ne croiront pas».

Thus is the word of thy Lord proved true against those who rebel: Verily they will not believe.

قُلْ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَآئِكُم مَّن يَبْدَؤُا۟ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ يَبْدَؤُا۟ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ[34]

Qul hal min shurakaikum man yabdao alkhalqa thumma yuAAeeduhu quli Allahu yabdao alkhalqa thumma yuAAeeduhu faanna tufakoona

Dis: «Parmi vos associés, qui donne la vie par une première création et la redonne [après la mort]?» Dis: «Allah [seul] donne la vie par une première création et la redonne. Comment pouvez-vous vous écarter [de l'adoration d'Allah]?

Say: "Of your 'partners', can any originate creation and repeat it?" Say: "It is Allah Who originates creation and repeats it: then how are ye deluded away (from the truth)?"

قُلْ هَلْ مِن شُرَكَآئِكُم مَّن يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى الْحَقِّ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ يَهْدِى لِلْحَقِّ ۗ أَفَمَن يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى الْحَقِّ أَحَقُّ أَن يُتَّبَعَ أَمَّن لَّا يَهِدِّىٓ إِلَّآ أَن يُهْدَىٰ ۖ فَمَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ[35]

Qul hal min shurakaikum man yahdee ila alhaqqi quli Allahu yahdee lilhaqqi afaman yahdee ila alhaqqi ahaqqu an yuttabaAAa amman la yahiddee illa an yuhda fama lakum kayfa tahkumoona

Dis: «Est-ce qu'il y a parmi vos associés un qui guide vers la vérité?» Dis: «C'est Allah qui guide vers la vérité. Celui qui guide vers la vérité est-il plus digne d'être suivi, ou bien celui qui ne se dirige qu'autant qu'il est lui-même dirigé? Qu'avez-vous donc? Comment jugez-vous ainsi?»

Say: "Of your 'partners' is there any that can give any guidance towards truth?" Say: "It is Allah Who gives guidance towards truth, is then He Who gives guidance to truth more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? what then is the matter with you? How judge ye?"

وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ إِلَّا ظَنًّا ۚ إِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِى مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ[36]

Wama yattabiAAu aktharuhum illa thannan inna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayan inna Allaha AAaleemun bima yafAAaloona

Et la plupart d'entre eux ne suivent que conjecture. Mais, la conjecture ne sert à rien contre la vérité! Allah sait parfaitement ce qu'ils font.

But most of them follow nothing but fancy: truly fancy can be of no avail against truth. Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do.

وَمَا كَانَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْءَانُ أَن يُفْتَرَىٰ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ الْكِتَٰبِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ الْعَٰلَمِينَ[37]

Wama kana hatha alquranu an yuftara min dooni Allahi walakin tasdeeqa allathee bayna yadayhi watafseela alkitabi la rayba feehi min rabbi alAAalameena

Ce Coran n'est nullement à être forgé en dehors d'Allah mais c'est la confirmation de ce qui existait déjà avant lui, et l'exposé détaillé du Livre en quoi il n'y a pas de doute, venu du Seigneur de l'Univers.

This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds.

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَىٰهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِسُورَةٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ وَادْعُوا۟ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[38]

Am yaqooloona iftarahu qul fatoo bisooratin mithlihi waodAAoo mani istataAAtum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena

Ou bien ils disent: «Il (Muhammad) l'a inventé?» Dis: «Composez donc une sourate semblable à ceci, et appelez à votre aide n'importe qui vous pourrez, en dehors d'Allah, si vous êtes véridiques».

Or do they say, "He forged it"? say: "Bring then a Sura like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يُحِيطُوا۟ بِعِلْمِهِۦ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِيلُهُۥ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ الظَّٰلِمِينَ[39]

Bal kaththaboo bima lam yuheetoo biAAilmihi walamma yatihim taweeluhu kathalika kaththaba allatheena min qablihim faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu alththalimeena

Bien au contraire: ils ont traité de mensonge ce qu'ils ne peuvent embrasser de leur savoir, et dont l'interprétation ne leur est pas encore parvenue. Ainsi ceux qui vivaient avant eux traitaient d'imposteurs (leurs messagers). Regarde comment a été la fin des injustes!

Nay, they charge with falsehood that whose knowledge they cannot compass, even before the elucidation thereof hath reached them: thus did those before them make charges of falsehood: but see what was the end of those who did wrong!

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُفْسِدِينَ[40]

Waminhum man yuminu bihi waminhum man la yuminu bihi warabbuka aAAlamu bialmufsideena

Certains d'entre eux y croient, et d'autres n'y croient pas. Et ton Seigneur connaît le mieux les fauteurs de désordre.

Of them there are some who believe therein, and some who do not: and thy Lord knoweth best those who are out for mischief.

وَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقُل لِّى عَمَلِى وَلَكُمْ عَمَلُكُمْ ۖ أَنتُم بَرِيٓـُٔونَ مِمَّآ أَعْمَلُ وَأَنَا۠ بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ[41]

Wain kaththabooka faqul lee AAamalee walakum AAamalukum antum bareeoona mimma aAAmalu waana bareeon mimma taAAmaloona

Et s'ils te traitent de menteur, dis alors: «A moi mon œuvre, et à vous la vôtre. Vous êtes irresponsables de ce que je fais et je suis irresponsable de ce que vous faites».

If they charge thee with falsehood, say: "My work to me, and yours to you! ye are free from responsibility for what I do, and I for what ye do!"

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ[42]

Waminhum man yastamiAAoona ilayka afaanta tusmiAAu alssumma walaw kanoo la yaAAqiloona

Et il en est parmi eux qui te prêtent l'oreille. Est-ce toi qui fait entendre les sourds, même s'ils sont incapables de comprendre.

Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: But canst thou make the deaf to hear,- even though they are without understanding?

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنظُرُ إِلَيْكَ ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تَهْدِى الْعُمْىَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ[43]

Waminhum man yanthuru ilayka afaanta tahdee alAAumya walaw kanoo la yubsiroona

Et il en est parmi eux qui te regardent. Est-ce toi qui peux guider les aveugles, même s'ils ne voient pas?

And among them are some who look at thee: but canst thou guide the blind,- even though they will not see?

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ النَّاسَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَٰكِنَّ النَّاسَ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ[44]

Inna Allaha la yathlimu alnnasa shayan walakinna alnnasa anfusahum yathlimoona

En vérité, Allah n'est point injuste à l'égard des gens, mais ce sont les gens qui font du tort à eux-mêmes.

Verily Allah will not deal unjustly with man in aught: It is man that wrongs his own soul.

وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ كَأَن لَّمْ يَلْبَثُوٓا۟ إِلَّا سَاعَةً مِّنَ النَّهَارِ يَتَعَارَفُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ اللَّهِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهْتَدِينَ[45]

Wayawma yahshuruhum kaan lam yalbathoo illa saAAatan mina alnnahari yataAAarafoona baynahum qad khasira allatheena kaththaboo biliqai Allahi wama kanoo muhtadeena

Et le jour où Il les rassemblera, ce sera comme s'ils n'étaient restés [dans leur tombeau] qu'une heure du jour et ils se reconnaîtront mutuellement. Perdants seront alors ceux qui auront traité de mensonge la rencontre d'Allah, et ils n'auront pas été bien guidés.

One day He will gather them together: (It will be) as if they had tarried but an hour of a day: they will recognise each other: assuredly those will be lost who denied the meeting with Allah and refused to receive true guidance.

وَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ اللَّهُ شَهِيدٌ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ[46]

Waimma nuriyannaka baAAda allathee naAAiduhum aw natawaffayannaka failayna marjiAAuhum thumma Allahu shaheedun AAala ma yafAAaloona

Que Nous te fassions voir une partie de ce dont Nous les menaçons, ou que Nous te fassions mourir, (en tout cas), c'est vers Nous que sera leur retour. Allah est en outre, témoin de ce qu'ils font.

Whether We show thee (realised in thy life-time) some part of what We promise them,- or We take thy soul (to Our Mercy) (Before that),- in any case, to Us is their return: ultimately Allah is witness, to all that they do.

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولٌ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ رَسُولُهُمْ قُضِىَ بَيْنَهُم بِالْقِسْطِ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ[47]

Walikulli ommatin rasoolun faitha jaa rasooluhum qudiya baynahum bialqisti wahum la yuthlamoona

A chaque communauté un Messager. Et lorsque leur messager vint, tout se décida en équité entre eux et ils ne furent point lésés.

To every people (was sent) a messenger: when their messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[48]

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena

Et ils disent «A quand cette promesse, si vous êtes véridiques»?

They say: "When will this promise come to pass,- if ye speak the truth?"

قُل لَّآ أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِى ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ اللَّهُ ۗ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ ۚ إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ[49]

Qul la amliku linafsee darran wala nafAAan illa ma shaa Allahu likulli ommatin ajalun itha jaa ajaluhum fala yastakhiroona saAAatan wala yastaqdimoona

Dis: «Je ne détiens pour moi rien qui peut me nuire ou me profiter, excepté ce qu'Allah veut. A chaque communauté un terme. Quand leur terme arrive, ils ne peuvent ni le retarder d'une heure ni l'avancer».

Say: "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except as Allah willeth. To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation)."

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُهُۥ بَيَٰتًا أَوْ نَهَارًا مَّاذَا يَسْتَعْجِلُ مِنْهُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ[50]

Qul araaytum in atakum AAathabuhu bayatan aw naharan matha yastaAAjilu minhu almujrimoona

Dis: «Voyez-vous! Si Son châtiment vous arrivait de nuit ou de jour, les criminels pourraient-ils en hâter quelque chose?

Say: "Do ye see,- if His punishment should come to you by night or by day,- what portion of it would the sinners wish to hasten?

أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦٓ ۚ ءَآلْـَٰٔنَ وَقَدْ كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ[51]

Athumma itha ma waqaAAa amantum bihi alana waqad kuntum bihi tastaAAjiloona

«Est-ce au moment où le châtiment se produira que vous croirez? [Il vous sera dit: «Inutile».] Maintenant! Autrefois, vous en réclamiez [ironiquement] la prompte arrivée!»

"Would ye then believe in it at last, when it actually cometh to pass? (It will then be said): 'Ah! now? and ye wanted (aforetime) to hasten it on!'

ثُمَّ قِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ هَلْ تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ[52]

Thumma qeela lillatheena thalamoo thooqoo AAathaba alkhuldi hal tujzawna illa bima kuntum taksiboona

Puis il sera dit aux injustes: «Goûtez au châtiment éternel! Etes-vous rétribués autrement qu'en rapport de ce que vous acquériez?»

"At length will be said to the wrong-doers: 'Taste ye the enduring punishment! ye get but the recompense of what ye earned!'"

۞ وَيَسْتَنۢبِـُٔونَكَ أَحَقٌّ هُوَ ۖ قُلْ إِى وَرَبِّىٓ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ[53]

Wayastanbioonaka ahaqqun huwa qul ee warabbee innahu lahaqqun wama antum bimuAAjizeena

Et ils s'informent auprès de toi: «Est-ce vrai?» - Dis: «Oui! Par mon Seigneur! C'est bien vrai. Et vous ne pouvez vous soustraire à la puissance d'Allah.

They seek to be informed by thee: "Is that true?" Say: "Aye! by my Lord! it is the very truth! and ye cannot frustrate it!"

وَلَوْ أَنَّ لِكُلِّ نَفْسٍ ظَلَمَتْ مَا فِى الْأَرْضِ لَافْتَدَتْ بِهِۦ ۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ النَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ الْعَذَابَ ۖ وَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُم بِالْقِسْطِ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ[54]

Walaw anna likulli nafsin thalamat ma fee alardi laiftadat bihi waasarroo alnnadamata lamma raawoo alAAathaba waqudiya baynahum bialqisti wahum la yuthlamoona

Si chaque âme injuste possédait tout ce qu'il y a sur terre, elle le donnerait pour sa rançon. Ils dissimuleront leur regret quand ils verront le châtiment. Et il sera décidé entre eux en toute équité, et ils ne seront point lésés.

Every soul that hath sinned, if it possessed all that is on earth, would fain give it in ransom: They would declare (their) repentance when they see the penalty: but the judgment between them will be with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.

أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[55]

Ala inna lillahi ma fee alssamawati waalardi ala inna waAAda Allahi haqqun walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

C'est à Allah qu'appartient, certes, tout ce qui est dans les cieux et sur la terre. Certes, la promesse d'Allah est vérité. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne (le) savent pas.

Is it not (the case) that to Allah belongeth whatever is in the heavens and on earth? Is it not (the case) that Allah's promise is assuredly true? Yet most of them understand not.

هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ[56]

Huwa yuhyee wayumeetu wailayhi turjaAAoona

C'est Lui qui donne la vie et qui donne la mort; et c'est vers Lui que vous serez ramenés.

It is He Who giveth life and who taketh it, and to Him shall ye all be brought back.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌ لِّمَا فِى الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ[57]

Ya ayyuha alnnasu qad jaatkum mawAAithatun min rabbikum washifaon lima fee alssudoori wahudan warahmatun lilmumineena

O gens! Une exhortation vous est venue, de votre Seigneur, une guérison de ce qui est dans les poitrines, un guide et une miséricorde pour les croyants.

O mankind! there hath come to you a direction from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts,- and for those who believe, a guidance and a Mercy.

قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِۦ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا۟ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ[58]

Qul bifadli Allahi wabirahmatihi fabithalika falyafrahoo huwa khayrun mimma yajmaAAoona

Dis: «[Ceci provient] de la grâce d'Allah et de Sa miséricorde; Voilà de quoi ils devraient se réjouir. C'est bien mieux que tout ce qu'ils amassent».

Say: "In the bounty of Allah. And in His Mercy,- in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard.

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ فَجَعَلْتُم مِّنْهُ حَرَامًا وَحَلَٰلًا قُلْ ءَآللَّهُ أَذِنَ لَكُمْ ۖ أَمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَفْتَرُونَ[59]

Qul araaytum ma anzala Allahu lakum min rizqin fajaAAaltum minhu haraman wahalalan qul allahu athina lakum am AAala Allahi taftaroona

Que dites-vous de ce qu'Allah a fait descendre pour vous comme subsistance et dont vous avez alors fait des choses licites et des choses interdites? - Dis: «Est-ce Allah qui vous l'a permis? Ou bien forgez vous (des mensonges) contre Allah?»

Say: "See ye what things Allah hath sent down to you for sustenance? Yet ye hold forbidden some things thereof and (some things) lawful." Say: "Hath Allah indeed permitted you, or do ye invent (things) to attribute to Allah?"

وَمَا ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَٰمَةِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ[60]

Wama thannu allatheena yaftaroona AAala Allahi alkathiba yawma alqiyamati inna Allaha lathoo fadlin AAala alnnasi walakinna aktharahum la yashkuroona

Et que penseront, au Jour de la Résurrection, ceux qui forgent le mensonge contre Allah? - Certes, Allah est Détenteur de grâce pour les gens, mais la plupart d'entre eux ne sont pas reconnaissants.

And what think those who invent lies against Allah, of the Day of Judgment? Verily Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful.

وَمَا تَكُونُ فِى شَأْنٍ وَمَا تَتْلُوا۟ مِنْهُ مِن قُرْءَانٍ وَلَا تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ إِلَّا كُنَّا عَلَيْكُمْ شُهُودًا إِذْ تُفِيضُونَ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَا يَعْزُبُ عَن رَّبِّكَ مِن مِّثْقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى السَّمَآءِ وَلَآ أَصْغَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ وَلَآ أَكْبَرَ إِلَّا فِى كِتَٰبٍ مُّبِينٍ[61]

Wama takoonu fee shanin wama tatloo minhu min quranin wala taAAmaloona min AAamalin illa kunna AAalaykum shuhoodan ith tufeedoona feehi wama yaAAzubu AAan rabbika min mithqali tharratin fee alardi wala fee alssamai wala asghara min thalika wala akbara illa fee kitabin mubeenun

Tu ne te trouveras dans aucune situation, tu ne réciteras aucun passage du Coran, vous n'accomplirez aucun acte sans que Nous soyons témoin au moment où vous l'entreprendrez. Il n'échappe à ton Seigneur ni le poids d'un atome sur terre ou dans le ciel, ni un poids plus petit ou plus grand qui ne soit déjà inscrit dans un livre évident.

In whatever business thou mayest be, and whatever portion thou mayest be reciting from the Qur'an,- and whatever deed ye (mankind) may be doing,- We are witnesses thereof when ye are deeply engrossed therein. Nor is hidden from thy Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom on the earth or in heaven. And not the least and not the greatest of these things but are recorded in a clear record.

أَلَآ إِنَّ أَوْلِيَآءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ[62]

Ala inna awliyaa Allahi la khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona

En vérité, les bien-aimés d'Allah seront à l'abri de toute crainte, et ils ne seront point affligés,

Behold! verily on the friends of Allah there is no fear, nor shall they grieve;

الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ يَتَّقُونَ[63]

Allatheena amanoo wakanoo yattaqoona

ceux qui croient et qui craignent [Allah].

Those who believe and (constantly) guard against evil;-

لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَىٰ فِى الْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِى الْءَاخِرَةِ ۚ لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِكَلِمَٰتِ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ[64]

Lahumu albushra fee alhayati alddunya wafee alakhirati la tabdeela likalimati Allahi thalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu

Il y a pour eux une bonne annonce dans la vie d'ici-bas tout comme dans la vie ultime. - Il n'y aura pas de changement aux paroles d'Allah -. Voilà l'énorme succès!

For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present and in the Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme felicity.

وَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّ الْعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا ۚ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ[65]

Wala yahzunka qawluhum inna alAAizzata lillahi jameeAAan huwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

Que ce qu'ils disent ne t'afflige pas. La puissance toute entière appartient à Allah. C'est Lui qui est l'Audient, l'Omniscient.

Let not their speech grieve thee: for all power and honour belong to Allah: It is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).

أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَن فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى الْأَرْضِ ۗ وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ[66]

Ala inna lillahi man fee alssamawati waman fee alardi wama yattabiAAu allatheena yadAAoona min dooni Allahi shurakaa in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wain hum illa yakhrusoona

C'est à Allah qu'appartient, ce qui est dans les cieux et ce qui est sur la terre. Que suivent donc ceux qui invoquent, en dehors d'Allah, [des divinités] qu'ils Lui associent? Ils ne suivent que la conjecture et ne font que mentir.

Behold! verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His "partners" other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.

هُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ لِتَسْكُنُوا۟ فِيهِ وَالنَّهَارَ مُبْصِرًا ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ[67]

Huwa allathee jaAAala lakumu allayla litaskunoo feehi waalnnahara mubsiran inna fee thalika laayatin liqawmin yasmaAAoona

C'est Lui qui vous a désigné la nuit pour que vous vous y reposiez, et le jour pour vous permettre de voir. Ce sont en vérité des signes pour les gens qui entendent!

He it is That hath made you the night that ye may rest therein, and the day to make things visible (to you). Verily in this are signs for those who listen (to His Message).

قَالُوا۟ اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا ۗ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ ۖ هُوَ الْغَنِىُّ ۖ لَهُۥ مَا فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى الْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنْ عِندَكُم مِّن سُلْطَٰنٍۭ بِهَٰذَآ ۚ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ[68]

Qaloo ittakhatha Allahu waladan subhanahu huwa alghaniyyu lahu ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi in AAindakum min sultanin bihatha ataqooloona AAala Allahi ma la taAAlamoona

Ils disent: «Allah S'est donné un enfant» Gloire et Pureté à Lui! Il est Le Riche par excellence. A Lui appartient tout ce qui est aux cieux et sur la terre; - vous n'avez pour cela aucune preuve. Allez-vous dire contre Allah ce que vous ne savez pas?

They say: "Allah hath begotten a son!" - Glory be to Him! He is self-sufficient! His are all things in the heavens and on earth! No warrant have ye for this! say ye about Allah what ye know not?

قُلْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ[69]

Qul inna allatheena yaftaroona AAala Allahi alkathiba la yuflihoona

Dis: «En vérité, ceux qui forgent le mensonge contre Allah ne réussiront pas».

Say: "Those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper."

مَتَٰعٌ فِى الدُّنْيَا ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ ثُمَّ نُذِيقُهُمُ الْعَذَابَ الشَّدِيدَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْفُرُونَ[70]

MataAAun fee alddunya thumma ilayna marjiAAuhum thumma nutheequhumu alAAathaba alshshadeeda bima kanoo yakfuroona

C'est une jouissance (temporaire) dans la vie d'ici-bas; puis ils retourneront vers Nous et Nous leur ferons goûter au dur châtiment, à titre de sanction pour leur mécréance.

A little enjoyment in this world!- and then, to Us will be their return, then shall We make them taste the severest penalty for their blasphemies.

۞ وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَٰقَوْمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكُم مَّقَامِى وَتَذْكِيرِى بِـَٔايَٰتِ اللَّهِ فَعَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ فَأَجْمِعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَكُمْ وَشُرَكَآءَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنْ أَمْرُكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ غُمَّةً ثُمَّ اقْضُوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ[71]

Waotlu AAalayhim nabaa noohin ith qala liqawmihi ya qawmi in kana kabura AAalaykum maqamee watathkeeree biayati Allahi faAAala Allahi tawakkaltu faajmiAAoo amrakum washurakaakum thumma la yakun amrukum AAalaykum ghummatan thumma iqdoo ilayya wala tunthirooni

Raconte-leur l'histoire de Noé, quand il dit à son peuple: «O mon peuple, si mon séjour (parmi vous), et mon rappel des signes d'Allah vous pèsent trop, alors c'est en Allah que je place (entièrement) ma confiance. Concertez-vous avec vos associés, et ne cachez pas vos desseins. Puis, décidez de moi et ne me donnez pas de répit.

Relate to them the story of Noah. Behold! he said to his people: "O my people, if it be hard on your (mind) that I should stay (with you) and commemorate the signs of Allah,- yet I put my trust in Allah. Get ye then an agreement about your plan and among your partners, so your plan be on to you dark and dubious. Then pass your sentence on me, and give me no respite.

فَإِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَمَا سَأَلْتُكُم مِّنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ[72]

Fain tawallaytum fama saaltukum min ajrin in ajriya illa AAala Allahi waomirtu an akoona mina almuslimeena

Si vous vous détournez, alors je ne vous ai pas demandé de salaire... Mon salaire n'incombe qu'à Allah. Et il m'a été commandé d'être du nombre des soumis».

"But if ye turn back, (consider): no reward have I asked of you: my reward is only due from Allah, and I have been commanded to be of those who submit to Allah's will (in Islam)."

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِى الْفُلْكِ وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ خَلَٰٓئِفَ وَأَغْرَقْنَا الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ الْمُنذَرِينَ[73]

Fakaththaboohu fanajjaynahu waman maAAahu fee alfulki wajaAAalnahum khalaifa waaghraqna allatheena kaththaboo biayatina faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almunthareena

Ils le traitèrent de menteur. Nous le sauvâmes, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui dans l'arche, desquels Nous fîmes les successeurs (sur la terre). Nous noyâmes ceux qui traitaient de mensonge Nos preuves. Regarde comment a été la fin de ceux qui avaient été avertis!

They rejected Him, but We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark, and We made them inherit (the earth), while We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our Signs. Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not)!

ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ رُسُلًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِمْ فَجَآءُوهُم بِالْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِيُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِمَا كَذَّبُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَطْبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ الْمُعْتَدِينَ[74]

Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihi rusulan ila qawmihim fajaoohum bialbayyinati fama kanoo liyuminoo bima kaththaboo bihi min qablu kathalika natbaAAu AAala quloobi almuAAtadeena

Puis Nous envoyâmes après lui des messagers à leurs peuples. Ils leur vinrent avec les preuves. Mais (les gens) étaient tels qu'ils ne pouvaient croire à ce qu'auparavant ils avaient traité de mensonge. Ainsi scellons-Nous les cœurs des transgresseurs.

Then after him We sent (many) messengers to their peoples: they brought them Clear Signs, but they would not believe what they had already rejected beforehand. Thus do We seal the hearts of the transgressors.

ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ[75]

Thumma baAAathna min baAAdihim moosa waharoona ila firAAawna wamalaihi biayatina faistakbaroo wakanoo qawman mujrimeena

Ensuite, Nous envoyâmes après eux Moïse et Aaron, munis de Nos preuves à Pharaon et ses notables. Mais (ces gens) s'enflèrent d'orgueil et ils étaient un peuple criminel.

Then after them sent We Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our Signs. But they were arrogant: they were a people in sin.

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ الْحَقُّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ[76]

Falamma jaahumu alhaqqu min AAindina qaloo inna hatha lasihrun mubeenun

Et lorsque la vérité leur vint de Notre part, ils dirent: «Voilà certes, une magie manifeste!»

When the Truth did come to them from Us, they said: "This is indeed evident sorcery!"

قَالَ مُوسَىٰٓ أَتَقُولُونَ لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَكُمْ ۖ أَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا وَلَا يُفْلِحُ السَّٰحِرُونَ[77]

Qala moosa ataqooloona lilhaqqi lamma jaakum asihrun hatha wala yuflihu alssahiroona

Moïse dit: «Dites-vous à la Vérité quand elle vous est venue: Est-ce que cela est de la magie? Alors que les magiciens ne réussissent pas...».

Said Moses: "Say ye (this) about the truth when it hath (actually) reached you? Is sorcery (like) this? But sorcerers will not prosper."

قَالُوٓا۟ أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَلْفِتَنَا عَمَّا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَا وَتَكُونَ لَكُمَا الْكِبْرِيَآءُ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَمَا نَحْنُ لَكُمَا بِمُؤْمِنِينَ[78]

Qaloo ajitana litalfitana AAamma wajadna AAalayhi abaana watakoona lakuma alkibriyao fee alardi wama nahnu lakuma bimumineena

Ils dirent: «Est-ce pour nous écarter de ce sur quoi nous avons trouvé nos ancêtres que tu es venu à nous, et pour que la grandeur appartienne à vous deux sur la terre? Et nous ne croyons pas en vous!»

They said: "Hast thou come to us to turn us away from the ways we found our fathers following,- in order that thou and thy brother may have greatness in the land? But not we shall believe in you!"

وَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ائْتُونِى بِكُلِّ سَٰحِرٍ عَلِيمٍ[79]

Waqala firAAawnu itoonee bikulli sahirin AAaleemin

Et Pharaon dit: «Amenez-moi tout magicien savant!»

Said Pharaoh: "Bring me every sorcerer well versed."

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ السَّحَرَةُ قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰٓ أَلْقُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ[80]

Falamma jaa alssaharatu qala lahum moosa alqoo ma antum mulqoona

Puis, lorsque vinrent les magiciens, Moïse leur dit: «Jetez ce que vous avez à jeter».

When the sorcerers came, Moses said to them: "Throw ye what ye (wish) to throw!"

فَلَمَّآ أَلْقَوْا۟ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ مَا جِئْتُم بِهِ السِّحْرُ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيُبْطِلُهُۥٓ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُصْلِحُ عَمَلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ[81]

Falamma alqaw qala moosa ma jitum bihi alssihru inna Allaha sayubtiluhu inna Allaha la yuslihu AAamala almufsideena

Lorsqu'ils jetèrent, Moïse dit: «Ce que vous avez produit est magie! Allah l'annulera. Car Allah ne fait pas prospérer ce que font les fauteurs de désordre.

When they had had their throw, Moses said: "What ye have brought is sorcery: Allah will surely make it of no effect: for Allah prospereth not the work of those who make mischief.

وَيُحِقُّ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ[82]

Wayuhiqqu Allahu alhaqqa bikalimatihi walaw kariha almujrimoona

Et par Ses paroles, Allah fera triompher la Vérité, quelque répulsion qu'en aient les criminels».

"And Allah by His words doth prove and establish His truth, however much the sinners may hate it!"

فَمَآ ءَامَنَ لِمُوسَىٰٓ إِلَّا ذُرِّيَّةٌ مِّن قَوْمِهِۦ عَلَىٰ خَوْفٍ مِّن فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِمْ أَن يَفْتِنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ فِرْعَوْنَ لَعَالٍ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ[83]

Fama amana limoosa illa thurriyyatun min qawmihi AAala khawfin min firAAawna wamalaihim an yaftinahum wainna firAAawna laAAalin fee alardi wainnahu lamina almusrifeena

Personne ne crut (au message) de Moïse, sauf un groupe de jeunes gens de son peuple, par crainte de représailles de Pharaon et de leurs notables. En vérité, Pharaon fut certes superbe sur terre et il fut du nombre des extravagants.

But none believed in Moses except some children of his people, because of the fear of Pharaoh and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and certainly Pharaoh was mighty on the earth and one who transgressed all bounds.

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ يَٰقَوْمِ إِن كُنتُمْ ءَامَنتُم بِاللَّهِ فَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلُوٓا۟ إِن كُنتُم مُّسْلِمِينَ[84]

Waqala moosa ya qawmi in kuntum amantum biAllahi faAAalayhi tawakkaloo in kuntum muslimeena

Et Moïse dit: «O mon peuple, si vous croyez en Allah, placez votre confiance en Lui si vous (Lui) êtes soumis».

Moses said: "O my people! If ye do (really) believe in Allah, then in Him put your trust if ye submit (your will to His)."

فَقَالُوا۟ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّٰلِمِينَ[85]

Faqaloo AAala Allahi tawakkalna rabbana la tajAAalna fitnatan lilqawmi alththalimeena

Ils dirent: «En Allah nous plaçons notre confiance. O notre Seigneur, ne fais pas de nous une cible pour les persécutions des injustes.

They said: "In Allah do we put out trust. Our Lord! make us not a trial for those who practise oppression;

وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْكَٰفِرِينَ[86]

Wanajjina birahmatika mina alqawmi alkafireena

Et délivre-nous, par Ta miséricorde, des gens mécréants».

"And deliver us by Thy Mercy from those who reject (Thee)."

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَأَخِيهِ أَن تَبَوَّءَا لِقَوْمِكُمَا بِمِصْرَ بُيُوتًا وَاجْعَلُوا۟ بُيُوتَكُمْ قِبْلَةً وَأَقِيمُوا۟ الصَّلَوٰةَ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[87]

Waawhayna ila moosa waakheehi an tabawwaa liqawmikuma bimisra buyootan waijAAaloo buyootakum qiblatan waaqeemoo alssalata wabashshiri almumineena

Et Nous révélâmes à Moïse et à son frère: «Prenez pour votre peuple des maisons en Egypte, faites de vos maisons un lieu de prière et soyez assidus dans la prière. Et fais la bonne annonce aux croyants».

We inspired Moses and his brother with this Message: "Provide dwellings for your people in Egypt, make your dwellings into places of worship, and establish regular prayers: and give glad tidings to those who believe!"

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ ءَاتَيْتَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَأَهُۥ زِينَةً وَأَمْوَٰلًا فِى الْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا رَبَّنَا لِيُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِكَ ۖ رَبَّنَا اطْمِسْ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَاشْدُدْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ[88]

Waqala moosa rabbana innaka atayta firAAawna wamalaahu zeenatan waamwalan fee alhayati alddunya rabbana liyudilloo AAan sabeelika rabbana itmis AAala amwalihim waoshdud AAala quloobihim fala yuminoo hatta yarawoo alAAathaba alaleema

Et Moïse dit: «O notre Seigneur, Tu as accordé à Pharaon et ses notables des parures et des biens dans la vie présente, et voilà, O notre Seigneur, qu'avec cela ils égarent (les gens loin) de Ton sentier. O notre Seigneur, anéantis leurs biens et endurcis leurs cœurs, afin qu'ils ne croient pas, jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient vu le châtiment douloureux».

Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so, Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface, our Lord, the features of their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until they see the grievous penalty."

قَالَ قَدْ أُجِيبَت دَّعْوَتُكُمَا فَاسْتَقِيمَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعَآنِّ سَبِيلَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[89]

Qala qad ojeebat daAAwatukuma faistaqeema wala tattabiAAanni sabeela allatheena la yaAAlamoona

Il dit: «Votre prière est exaucée. Restez tous deux sur le chemin droit, et ne suivez point le sentier de ceux qui ne savent pas».

Allah said: "Accepted is your prayer (O Moses and Aaron)! So stand ye straight, and follow not the path of those who know not."

۞ وَجَٰوَزْنَا بِبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ الْبَحْرَ فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ وَجُنُودُهُۥ بَغْيًا وَعَدْوًا ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَدْرَكَهُ الْغَرَقُ قَالَ ءَامَنتُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا الَّذِىٓ ءَامَنَتْ بِهِۦ بَنُوٓا۟ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ[90]

Wajawazna bibanee israeela albahra faatbaAAahum firAAawnu wajunooduhu baghyan waAAadwan hatta itha adrakahu algharaqu qala amantu annahu la ilaha illa allathee amanat bihi banoo israeela waana mina almuslimeena

Et Nous fîmes traverser la mer aux Enfants d'Israël. Pharaon et ses armées les poursuivirent avec acharnement et inimitié. Puis, quand la noyade l'eut atteint, il dit: «Je crois qu'il n'y a d'autre divinité que Celui en qui ont cru les enfants d'Israël. Et je suis du nombre des soumis».

We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)."

ءَآلْـَٰٔنَ وَقَدْ عَصَيْتَ قَبْلُ وَكُنتَ مِنَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ[91]

Alana waqad AAasayta qablu wakunta mina almufsideena

[Allah dit]: Maintenant? Alors qu'auparavant tu as désobéi et que tu as été du nombre des corrupteurs!

(It was said to him): "Ah now!- But a little while before, wast thou in rebellion!- and thou didst mischief (and violence)!

فَالْيَوْمَ نُنَجِّيكَ بِبَدَنِكَ لِتَكُونَ لِمَنْ خَلْفَكَ ءَايَةً ۚ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ النَّاسِ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِنَا لَغَٰفِلُونَ[92]

Faalyawma nunajjeeka bibadanika litakoona liman khalfaka ayatan wainna katheeran mina alnnasi AAan ayatina laghafiloona

Nous allons aujourd'hui épargner ton corps, afin que tu deviennes un signe à tes successeurs. Cependant beaucoup de gens ne prêtent aucune attention à Nos signes (d'avertissement).

"This day shall We save thee in the body, that thou mayest be a sign to those who come after thee! but verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Signs!"

وَلَقَدْ بَوَّأْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مُبَوَّأَ صِدْقٍ وَرَزَقْنَٰهُم مِّنَ الطَّيِّبَٰتِ فَمَا اخْتَلَفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِى بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ[93]

Walaqad bawwana banee israeela mubawwaa sidqin warazaqnahum mina alttayyibati fama ikhtalafoo hatta jaahumu alAAilmu inna rabbaka yaqdee baynahum yawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehi yakhtalifoona

Certes, Nous avons établi les Enfants d'Israël dans un endroit honorable, et leur avons attribué comme nourriture de bons aliments. Par la suite, ils n'ont divergé qu'au moment où leur vint la science. Ton Seigneur décidera entre eux, au Jour de la Résurrection sur ce qui les divisait.

We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best: it was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms. Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them, on the Day of Judgment.

فَإِن كُنتَ فِى شَكٍّ مِّمَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ فَسْـَٔلِ الَّذِينَ يَقْرَءُونَ الْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ لَقَدْ جَآءَكَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ[94]

Fain kunta fee shakkin mimma anzalnna ilayka faisali allatheena yaqraoona alkitaba min qablika laqad jaaka alhaqqu min rabbika fala takoonanna mina almumtareena

Et si tu es en doute sur ce que Nous avons fait descendre vers toi, interroge alors ceux qui lisent le Livre révélé avant toi. La vérité certes, t'est venue de ton Seigneur: ne sois donc point de ceux qui doutent.

If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.

وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ اللَّهِ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ الْخَٰسِرِينَ[95]

Wala takoonanna mina allatheena kaththaboo biayati Allahi fatakoona mina alkhasireena

Et ne sois point de ceux qui traitent de mensonge les versets d'Allah. Tu serais alors du nombre des perdants.

Nor be of those who reject the signs of Allah, or thou shalt be of those who perish.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ[96]

Inna allatheena haqqat AAalayhim kalimatu rabbika la yuminoona

Ceux contre qui la parole (la menace) de ton Seigneur se réalisera ne croiront pas,

Those against whom the word of thy Lord hath been verified would not believe-

وَلَوْ جَآءَتْهُمْ كُلُّ ءَايَةٍ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ الْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ[97]

Walaw jaathum kullu ayatin hatta yarawoo alAAathaba alaleema

même si tous les signes leur parvenaient, jusqu'à ce qu'ils voient le châtiment douloureux.

Even if every Sign was brought unto them,- until they see (for themselves) the penalty grievous.

فَلَوْلَا كَانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ ءَامَنَتْ فَنَفَعَهَآ إِيمَٰنُهَآ إِلَّا قَوْمَ يُونُسَ لَمَّآ ءَامَنُوا۟ كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمْ عَذَابَ الْخِزْىِ فِى الْحَيَوٰةِ الدُّنْيَا وَمَتَّعْنَٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ[98]

Falawla kanat qaryatun amanat fanafaAAaha eemanuha illa qawma yoonusa lamma amanoo kashafna AAanhum AAathaba alkhizyi fee alhayati alddunya wamattaAAnahum ila heenin

Si seulement il y avait, à part le peuple de Yûnus (Jonas), une cité qui ait cru et à qui sa croyance eut ensuite profité! Lorsqu'ils eurent cru, Nous leur enlevâmes le châtiment d'ignominie dans la vie présente et leur donnâmes jouissance pour un certain temps.

Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed,- so its faith should have profited it,- except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the penalty of ignominy in the life of the present, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ لَءَامَنَ مَن فِى الْأَرْضِ كُلُّهُمْ جَمِيعًا ۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُكْرِهُ النَّاسَ حَتَّىٰ يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ[99]

Walaw shaa rabbuka laamana man fee alardi kulluhum jameeAAan afaanta tukrihu alnnasa hatta yakoonoo mumineena

Si ton Seigneur l'avait voulu, tous ceux qui sont sur la terre auraient cru. Est-ce à toi de contraindre les gens à devenir croyants?

If it had been thy Lord's will, they would all have believed,- all who are on earth! wilt thou then compel mankind, against their will, to believe!

وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفْسٍ أَن تُؤْمِنَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَيَجْعَلُ الرِّجْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ[100]

Wama kana linafsin an tumina illa biithni Allahi wayajAAalu alrrijsa AAala allatheena la yaAAqiloona

Il n'appartient nullement à une âme de croire si ce n'est avec la permission d'Allah. Et Il voue au châtiment ceux qui ne raisonnent pas.

No soul can believe, except by the will of Allah, and He will place doubt (or obscurity) on those who will not understand.

قُلِ انظُرُوا۟ مَاذَا فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَا تُغْنِى الْءَايَٰتُ وَالنُّذُرُ عَن قَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ[101]

Quli onthuroo matha fee alssamawati waalardi wama tughnee alayatu waalnnuthuru AAan qawmin la yuminoona

Dis: «Regardez ce qui est dans les cieux et sur la terre». Mais ni les preuves ni les avertisseurs (prophètes) ne suffisent à des gens qui ne croient pas.

Say: "Behold all that is in the heavens and on earth"; but neither Signs nor Warners profit those who believe not.

فَهَلْ يَنتَظِرُونَ إِلَّا مِثْلَ أَيَّامِ الَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ قُلْ فَانتَظِرُوٓا۟ إِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُنتَظِرِينَ[102]

Fahal yantathiroona illa mithla ayyami allatheena khalaw min qablihim qul faintathiroo innee maAAakum mina almuntathireena

Est-ce qu'ils attendent autre chose que des châtiments semblables à ceux des peuples antérieurs? Dis: «Attendez! Moi aussi, j'attends avec vous».

Do they then expect (any thing) but (what happened in) the days of the men who passed away before them? Say: "Wait ye then: for I, too, will wait with you."

ثُمَّ نُنَجِّى رُسُلَنَا وَالَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ حَقًّا عَلَيْنَا نُنجِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[103]

Thumma nunajjee rusulana waallatheena amanoo kathalika haqqan AAalayna nunjee almumineena

Ensuite, Nous délivrerons Nos messagers et les croyants. C'est ainsi qu'il Nous incombe [en toute justice] de délivrer les croyants.

In the end We deliver Our messengers and those who believe: Thus is it fitting on Our part that We should deliver those who believe!

قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِن كُنتُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّن دِينِى فَلَآ أَعْبُدُ الَّذِينَ تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنْ أَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ الَّذِى يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[104]

Qul ya ayyuha alnnasu in kuntum fee shakkin min deenee fala aAAbudu allatheena taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi walakin aAAbudu Allaha allathee yatawaffakum waomirtu an akoona mina almumineena

Dis: «O gens! Si vous êtes en doute sur ma religion, moi, je n'adore point ceux que vous adorez en dehors d'Allah; mais j'adore Allah qui vous fera mourir. Et il m'a été commandé d'être du nombre des croyants».

Say: "O ye men! If ye are in doubt as to my religion, (behold!) I worship not what ye worship, other than Allah! But I worship Allah - Who will take your souls (at death): I am commanded to be (in the ranks) of the Believers,

وَأَنْ أَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًا وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ[105]

Waan aqim wajhaka lilddeeni haneefan wala takoonanna mina almushrikeena

Et (il m'a été dit): «Oriente-toi exclusivement sur la religion en pur monothéiste! Et ne sois pas du nombre des Associateurs;

"And further (thus): 'set thy face towards religion with true piety, and never in any wise be of the Unbelievers;

وَلَا تَدْعُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكَ وَلَا يَضُرُّكَ ۖ فَإِن فَعَلْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذًا مِّنَ الظَّٰلِمِينَ[106]

Wala tadAAu min dooni Allahi ma la yanfaAAuka wala yadurruka fain faAAalta fainnaka ithan mina alththalimeena

et n'invoque pas, en dehors d'Allah, ce qui ne peut te profiter ni te nuire. Et si tu le fais, tu seras alors du nombre des injustes».

"'Nor call on any, other than Allah;- Such will neither profit thee nor hurt thee: if thou dost, behold! thou shalt certainly be of those who do wrong.'"

وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥٓ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ وَإِن يُرِدْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَلَا رَآدَّ لِفَضْلِهِۦ ۚ يُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ[107]

Wain yamsaska Allahu bidurrin fala kashifa lahu illa huwa wain yuridka bikhayrin fala radda lifadlihi yuseebu bihi man yashao min AAibadihi wahuwa alghafooru alrraheemu

Et si Allah fait qu'un mal te touche, nul ne peut l'écarter en dehors de Lui. Et s'Il te veut un bien, nul ne peut repousser Sa grâce. Il en gratifie qui Il veut parmi Ses serviteurs. Et c'est Lui le Pardonneur, le Miséricordieux.

If Allah do touch thee with hurt, there is none can remove it but He: if He do design some benefit for thee, there is none can keep back His favour: He causeth it to reach whomsoever of His servants He pleaseth. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَكُمُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۖ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ عَلَيْكُم بِوَكِيلٍ[108]

Qul ya ayyuha alnnasu qad jaakumu alhaqqu min rabbikum famani ihtada fainnama yahtadee linafsihi waman dalla fainnama yadillu AAalayha wama ana AAalaykum biwakeelin

Dis: «O gens! Certes la vérité vous est venue de votre Seigneur. Donc, quiconque est dans le bon chemin ne l'est que pour lui-même; et quiconque s'égare, ne s'égare qu'à son propre détriment. Je ne suis nullement un protecteur pour vous.

Say: "O ye men! Now Truth hath reached you from your Lord! those who receive guidance, do so for the good of their own souls; those who stray, do so to their own loss: and I am not (set) over you to arrange your affairs."

وَاتَّبِعْ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَاصْبِرْ حَتَّىٰ يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَٰكِمِينَ[109]

WaittabiAA ma yooha ilayka waisbir hatta yahkuma Allahu wahuwa khayru alhakimeena

Et suis ce qui t'est révélé, et sois constant jusqu'à ce qu'Allah rende Son jugement car Il est le meilleur des juges.

Follow thou the inspiration sent unto thee, and be patient and constant, till Allah do decide: for He is the best to decide.
