بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ الْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ[1]

Aliflamra tilka ayatu alkitabi waquranin mubeenin

Alif, Lâm, Râ. Voici les versets du Livre et d'une Lecture explicite.

A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear.

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ[2]

Rubama yawaddu allatheena kafaroo law kanoo muslimeena

[Le Jour du Jugement Dernier] les mécréants voudraient avoir été Musulmans [soumis].

Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam.

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ[3]

Tharhum yakuloo wayatamattaAAoo wayulhihimu alamalu fasawfa yaAAlamoona

Laisse-les manger, jouir (un temps), et être distraits par l'espoir; car bientôt ils sauront!

Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them).

وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ[4]

Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illa walaha kitabun maAAloomun

Or Nous ne détruisons aucune cité sans qu'elle n'ait eu [un terme fixé en] une Ecriture connue.

Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand.

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ[5]

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalaha wama yastakhiroona

Nulle communauté ne devance son terme, ni ne le retarde.

Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it.

وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا الَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ[6]

Waqaloo ya ayyuha allathee nuzzila AAalayhi alththikru innaka lamajnoonun

Et ils (les mecquois) disent: «O toi sur qui on a fait descendre le Coran, tu es certainement fou!

They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)!

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّٰدِقِينَ[7]

Law ma tateena bialmalaikati in kunta mina alssadiqeena

Pourquoi ne nous es-tu pas venu avec les Anges, si tu es du nombre des véridiques?»

"Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?"

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ[8]

Ma nunazzilu almalaikata illa bialhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareena

Nous ne faisons descendre les Anges qu'avec la vérité; et alors, il ne leur sera pas accordé de répit [à ces impies].

We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have!

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ[9]

Inna nahnu nazzalna alththikra wainna lahu lahafithoona

En vérité c'est Nous qui avons fait descendre le Coran, et c'est Nous qui en sommes gardien.

We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ[10]

Walaqad arsalna min qablika fee shiyaAAi alawwaleena

Et nous avons certes envoyé, avant toi, [des Messagers] parmi les peuples des Anciens.

We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old:

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ[11]

Wama yateehim min rasoolin illa kanoo bihi yastahzioona

Et pas un Messager ne leur est venu sans qu'ils s'en soient moqués.

But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ[12]

Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobi almujrimeena

C'est ainsi que Nous faisons pénétrer (la mécréance) dans les cœurs des coupables.

Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners -

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ[13]

La yuminoona bihi waqad khalat sunnatu alawwaleena

Ils ne croiront pas en lui [le Messager ou le Coran] bien que se soit accompli le sort traditionnel des anciens.

That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away.

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ[14]

Walaw fatahna AAalayhim baban mina alssamai fathalloo feehi yaAArujoona

Et même si Nous ouvrions pour eux une porte du ciel, et qu'ils pussent y monter,

Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein,

لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ[15]

Laqaloo innama sukkirat absaruna bal nahnu qawmun mashooroona

ils diraient: «Vraiment nos yeux sont voilés. Mais plutôt, nous sommes des gens ensorcelés».

They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery."

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى السَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ[16]

Walaqad jaAAalna fee alssamai buroojan wazayyannaha lilnnathireena

Certes Nous avons placé dans le ciel des constellations et Nous l'avons embelli pour ceux qui regardent.

It is We Who have set out the zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders;

وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ[17]

Wahafithnaha min kulli shaytanin rajeemin

Et Nous l'avons protégé contre tout diable banni.

And (moreover) We have guarded them from every cursed devil:

إِلَّا مَنِ اسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ[18]

Illa mani istaraqa alssamAAa faatbaAAahu shihabun mubeenun

A moins que l'un d'eux parvienne subrepticement à écouter, une flamme brillante alors le poursuit.

But any that gains a hearing by stealth, is pursued by a flaming fire, bright (to see).

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ[19]

Waalarda madadnaha waalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatna feeha min kulli shayin mawzoonin

Et quant à la terre, Nous l'avons étalée et y avons placé des montagnes (immobiles) et y avons fait pousser toute chose harmonieusement proportionnée.

And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ[20]

WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayisha waman lastum lahu biraziqeena

Et Nous y avons placé des vivres pour vous, et (placé aussi pour vous) des êtres que vous ne nourrissez pas.

And We have provided therein means of subsistence,- for you and for those for whose sustenance ye are not responsible.

وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ[21]

Wain min shayin illa AAindana khazainuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarin maAAloomin

Et il n'est rien dont Nous n'ayons les réserves et Nous ne le faisons descendre que dans une mesure déterminée.

And there is not a thing but its (sources and) treasures (inexhaustible) are with Us; but We only send down thereof in due and ascertainable measures.

وَأَرْسَلْنَا الرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ[22]

Waarsalna alrriyaha lawaqiha faanzalna mina alssamai maan faasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineena

Et Nous envoyons les vents fécondants; et Nous faisons alors descendre du ciel une eau dont Nous vous abreuvons et que vous n'êtes pas en mesure de conserver.

And We send the fecundating winds, then cause the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores.

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَٰرِثُونَ[23]

Wainna lanahnu nuhyee wanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoona

Et c'est bien Nous qui donnons la vie et donnons la mort, et c'est Nous qui sommes l'héritier [de tout].

And verily, it is We Who give life, and Who give death: it is We Who remain inheritors (after all else passes away).

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ[24]

Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeena minkum walaqad AAalimna almustakhireena

Et Nous connaissons certes ceux qui parmi vous ont avancé et Nous connaissons ceux qui tardent encore.

To Us are known those of you who hasten forward, and those who lag behind.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ[25]

Wainna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhum innahu hakeemun AAaleemun

Certes, c'est ton Seigneur qui les rassemblera. Car c'est Lui le Sage, l'Omniscient.

Assuredly it is thy Lord Who will gather them together: for He is perfect in Wisdom and Knowledge.

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ[26]

Walaqad khalaqna alinsana min salsalin min hamain masnoonin

Nous créâmes l'homme d'une argile crissante, extraite d'une boue malléable.

We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape;

وَالْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ السَّمُومِ[27]

Waaljanna khalaqnahu min qablu min nari alssamoomi

Et quant au djinn, Nous l'avions auparavant créé d'un feu d'une chaleur ardente.

And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind.

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ[28]

Waith qala rabbuka lilmalaikati innee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hamain masnoonin

Et lorsque ton Seigneur dit aux Anges: «Je vais créer un homme d'argile crissante, extraite d'une boue malléable,

Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape;

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ[29]

Faitha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehi min roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideena

et dès que Je l'aurai harmonieusement formé et lui aurai insufflé Mon souffle de vie, jetez-vous alors, prosternés devant lui».

"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ[30]

Fasajada almalaikatu kulluhum ajmaAAoona

Alors, les Anges se prosternèrent tous ensemble,

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ السَّٰجِدِينَ[31]

Illa ibleesa aba an yakoona maAAa alssajideena

excepté Iblis qui refusa d'être avec les prosternés.

Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves.

قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّٰجِدِينَ[32]

Qala ya ibleesu ma laka alla takoona maAAa alssajideena

Alors [Allah] dit: «O Iblis, pourquoi n'es-tu pas au nombre des prosternés?»

(Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?"

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ[33]

Qala lam akun liasjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min salsalin min hamain masnoonin

Il dit: «Je ne puis me prosterner devant un homme que Tu as créé d'argile crissante, extraite d'une boue malléable».

(Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape."

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ[34]

Qala faokhruj minha fainnaka rajeemun

- Et [Allah] dit: «Sors de là [du Paradis], car te voilà banni!

(Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ[35]

Wainna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmi alddeeni

Et malédiction sur toi, jusqu'au Jour de la rétribution!»

"And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment."

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ[36]

Qala rabbi faanthirnee ila yawmi yubAAathoona

- Il dit: «O mon Seigneur, donne-moi donc un délai jusqu'au jour où ils (les gens) seront ressuscités».

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ[37]

Qala fainnaka mina almunthareena

[Allah] dit: «tu es de ceux à qui ce délai est accordé,

(Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ[38]

Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloomi

jusqu'au jour de l'instant connu» [d'Allah].

"Till the Day of the Time appointed."

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[39]

Qala rabbi bima aghwaytanee laozayyinanna lahum fee alardi walaoghwiyannahum ajmaAAeena

- Il dit: «O mon Seigneur, parce que Tu m'as induit en erreur, eh bien je leur enjoliverai la vie sur terre et les égarerai tous,

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,-

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ[40]

Illa AAibadaka minhumu almukhlaseena

à l'exception, parmi eux, de Tes serviteurs élus.»

"Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ[41]

Qala hatha siratun AAalayya mustaqeemun

- «[Allah] dit: voici une voie droite [qui mène] vers Moi.

(Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me.

إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ[42]

Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhim sultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaweena

Sur Mes serviteurs tu n'auras aucune autorité, excepté sur celui qui te suivra parmi les dévoyés.

"For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee."

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[43]

Wainna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeena

Et l'Enfer sera sûrement leur lieu de rendez-vous à tous.

And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all!

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ[44]

Laha sabAAatu abwabin likulli babin minhum juzon maqsoomun

Il a sept portes; et chaque porte en a sa part déterminée».

To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ[45]

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatin waAAuyoonin

Certes, les pieux seront dans des jardins avec des sources.

The righteous (will be) amid gardens and fountains (of clear-flowing water).

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ[46]

Odkhulooha bisalamin amineena

«Entrez-y en paix et en sécurité».

(Their greeting will be): "Enter ye here in peace and security."

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ[47]

WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihim min ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileena

Et Nous aurons arraché toute rancune de leurs poitrines: et ils se sentiront frères, faisant face les uns aux autres sur des lits.

And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity).

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ[48]

La yamassuhum feeha nasabun wama hum minha bimukhrajeena

Nulle fatigue ne les y touchera. Et on ne les en fera pas sortir.

There no sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave.

۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ[49]

Nabbi AAibadee annee ana alghafooru alrraheemu

Informe Mes serviteurs que c'est Moi le Pardonneur, le Très Miséricordieux.

Tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful;

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ الْعَذَابُ الْأَلِيمُ[50]

Wa anna AAathabee huwa alAAathabu alaleemu

et que Mon châtiment est certes le châtiment douloureux.

And that My Penalty will be indeed the most grievous Penalty.

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ[51]

Wanabbihum AAan dayfi ibraheema

Et informe-les au sujet des hôtes d'Abraham

Tell them about the guests of Abraham.

إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ[52]

Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloo salaman qala inna minkum wajiloona

Quand ils entrèrent chez lui et dirent: «Salâm» - Il dit: «Nous avons peur de vous».

When they entered his presence and said, "Peace!" He said, "We feel afraid of you!"

قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ[53]

Qaloo la tawjal inna nubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleemin

Ils dirent: «N'aie pas peur! Nous t'annonçons une bonne nouvelle, [la naissance] d'un garçon plein de savoir».

They said: "Fear not! We give thee glad tidings of a son endowed with wisdom."

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ الْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ[54]

Qala abashshartumoonee AAala an massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshirooni

Il dit: «M'annoncez-vous [cette nouvelle] alors que la vieillesse m'a touché? Que m'annoncez-vous donc?»

He said: "Do ye give me glad tidings that old age has seized me? Of what, then, is your good news?"

قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ الْقَٰنِطِينَ[55]

Qaloo bashsharnaka bialhaqqi fala takun mina alqaniteena

- Ils dirent: «Nous t'annonçons la vérité. Ne sois donc pas de ceux qui désespèrent».

They said: "We give thee glad tidings in truth: be not then in despair!"

قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا الضَّآلُّونَ[56]

Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmati rabbihi illa alddalloona

- Il dit: «Et qui désespère de la miséricorde de son Seigneur, sinon les égarés?»

He said: "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord, but such as go astray?"

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ[57]

Qala fama khatbukum ayyuha almursaloona

Et il [leur] dit: «Que voulez-vous, ô envoyés d'Allah?»

Abraham said: "What then is the business on which ye (have come), O ye messengers (of Allah)?"

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ[58]

Qaloo inna orsilna ila qawmin mujrimeena

- Ils dirent: «En vérité, nous sommes envoyés à des gens criminels,

They said: "We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin,

إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[59]

Illa ala lootin inna lamunajjoohum ajmaAAeena

à l'exception de la famille de Lot que nous sauverons tous

"Excepting the adherents of Lut: them we are certainly (charged) to save (from harm),- All -

إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَٰبِرِينَ[60]

Illa imraatahu qaddarna innaha lamina alghabireena

sauf sa femme.«Nous (Allah) avions déterminé qu'elle sera du nombre des exterminés.

"Except his wife, who, We have ascertained, will be among those who will lag behind."

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلُونَ[61]

Falamma jaa ala lootin almursaloona

Puis lorsque les envoyés vinrent auprès de la famille de Lot

At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut,

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ[62]

Qala innakum qawmun munkaroona

celui-ci dit: «Vous êtes [pour moi] des gens inconnus».

He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk."

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ[63]

Qaloo bal jinaka bima kanoo feehi yamtaroona

- Ils dirent: «Nous sommes plutôt venus à toi en apportant (le châtiment) à propos duquel ils doutaient.

They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt.

وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ[64]

Waataynaka bialhaqqi wainna lasadiqoona

Et nous venons à toi avec la vérité. Et nous sommes véridiques.

"We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth.

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ الَّيْلِ وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَامْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ[65]

Faasri biahlika biqitAAin mina allayli waittabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafit minkum ahadun waimdoo haythu tumaroona

Pars donc avec ta famille en parie de nuit et suis leurs arrières; et que nul d'entre vous ne se retourne. Et allez là où on vous le commande».

"Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered."

وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ الْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ[66]

Waqadayna ilayhi thalika alamra anna dabira haolai maqtooAAun musbiheena

Et Nous lui annonçâmes cet ordre: que ces gens-là, au matin, seront anéantis jusqu'au dernier.

And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning.

وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ[67]

Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroona

Et les habitants de la ville (Sodome) vinrent [à lui] dans la joie.

The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men).

قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ[68]

Qala inna haolai dayfee fala tafdahooni

- Il dit: «Ceux-ci sont mes hôtes, ne me déshonorez donc pas.

Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not:

وَاتَّقُوا۟ اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ[69]

Waittaqoo Allaha wala tukhzooni

Et craignez Allah. Et ne me couvrez pas d'ignominie.»

"But fear Allah, and shame me not."

قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَٰلَمِينَ[70]

Qaloo awalam nanhaka AAani alAAalameena

Ils dirent: «Ne t'avions-nous pas interdit de [recevoir] du monde?»

They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?"

قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ[71]

Qala haolai banatee in kuntum faAAileena

Il dit: «Voici mes filles, si vous voulez faire [quelque chose]!»

He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)."

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ[72]

LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihim yaAAmahoona

Par ta vie! ils se confondaient dans leur délire.

Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ[73]

Faakhathathumu alssayhatu mushriqeena

Alors, au lever du soleil le Cri (la catastrophe) les saisit.

But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning,

فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ[74]

FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilaha waamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan min sijjeelin

Et Nous renversâmes [la ville] de fond en comble et fîmes pleuvoir sur eux des pierres d'argile dure.

And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ[75]

Inna fee thalika laayatin lilmutawassimeena

Voilà vraiment des preuves, pour ceux qui savent observer!

Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand.

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ[76]

Wainnaha labisabeelin muqeemin

Elle [cette ville] se trouvait sur un chemin connu de tous.

And the (cities were) right on the high-road.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ[77]

Inna fee thalika laayatan lilmumineena

Voilà vraiment une exhortation pour les croyants!

Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed.

وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ[78]

Wain kana ashabu alaykati lathalimeena

Et les habitants d'al-Aïka étaient [aussi] des injustes.

And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers;

فَانتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ[79]

Faintaqamna minhum wainnahuma labiimamin mubeenin

Nous Nous sommes donc vengés d'eux. Et ces deux [cités], vraiment, sont sur une route bien évidente [que vous connaissez].

So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see.

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ[80]

Walaqad kaththaba ashabu alhijri almursaleena

Certes, les gens d'al-Hijr ont traité de menteurs les messagers.

The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the messengers:

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ[81]

Waataynahum ayatina fakanoo AAanha muAArideena

Nous leur avons montré Nos miracles, mais ils s'en étaient détournés.

We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them.

وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ[82]

Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibali buyootan amineena

Et ils taillaient des maisons dans les montagnes, vivant en sécurité.

Out of the mountains did they hew (their) edifices, (feeling themselves) secure.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ[83]

Faakhathathumu alssayhatu musbiheena

Puis, au matin, le Cri les saisit.

But the (mighty) Blast seized them of a morning,

فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ[84]

Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanoo yaksiboona

Ce qu'ils avaient acquis ne leur a donc point profité.

And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)!

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ[85]

Wama khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma illa bialhaqqi wainna alssaAAata laatiyatun faisfahi alssafha aljameela

Et Nous n'avons créé les cieux et la terre, et ce qui est entre eux, que pour une juste raison. Et l'Heure [sans aucun doute] arrivera! Pardonne-[leur] donc d'un beau pardon.

We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْخَلَّٰقُ الْعَلِيمُ[86]

Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqu alAAaleemu

Ton Seigneur, c'est Lui vraiment le grand Créateur, l'Omniscient.

For verily it is thy Lord who is the Master-Creator, knowing all things.

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ الْمَثَانِى وَالْقُرْءَانَ الْعَظِيمَ[87]

Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan mina almathanee waalqurana alAAatheema

Nous t'avons certes donné «les sept versets que l'on répète», ainsi que le Coran sublime.

And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an.

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ[88]

La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila ma mattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzan AAalayhim waikhfid janahaka lilmumineena

Ne regarde surtout pas avec envie les choses dont Nous avons donné jouissance temporaire à certains couples d'entre eux, ne t'afflige pas à leur sujet et abaisse ton aile pour les croyants.

Strain not thine eyes. (Wistfully) at what We have bestowed on certain classes of them, nor grieve over them: but lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers.

وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْمُبِينُ[89]

Waqul innee ana alnnatheeru almubeenu

Et dis: «Je suis l'avertisseur évident» (d'un châtiment),

And say: "I am indeed he that warneth openly and without ambiguity,"-

كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ[90]

Kama anzalna AAala almuqtasimeena

De même que Nous avons fait descendre [le châtiment] sur ceux qui ont juré (entre eux),

(Of just such wrath) as We sent down on those who divided (Scripture into arbitrary parts),-

الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ الْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ[91]

Allatheena jaAAaloo alqurana AAideena

ceux qui ont fait du Coran des fractions diverses, (pour créer des doutes).

(So also on such) as have made Qur'an into shreds (as they please).

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[92]

Fawarabbika lanasalannahum ajmaAAeena

Par ton Seigneur! Nous les interrogerons tous

Therefore, by the Lord, We will, of a surety, call them to account,

عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ[93]

AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloona

sur ce qu'ils œuvraient.

For all their deeds.

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ[94]

FaisdaAA bima tumaru waaAArid AAani almushrikeena

Expose donc clairement ce qu'on t'a commandé et détourne-toi des associateurs.

Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ[95]

Inna kafaynaka almustahzieena

Nous t'avons effectivement défendu vis-à-vis des railleurs.

For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff,-

الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ[96]

Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoona

Ceux qui associent à Allah une autre divinité. Mais ils sauront bientôt.

Those who adopt, with Allah, another god: but soon will they come to know.

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ[97]

Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadruka bima yaqooloona

Et Nous savons certes que ta poitrine se serre, à cause de ce qu'ils disent.

We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say.

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ السَّٰجِدِينَ[98]

Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakun mina alssajideena

Glorifie donc Ton Seigneur par Sa louange et sois de ceux qui se prosternent;

But celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration.

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ[99]

WaoAAbud rabbaka hatta yatiyaka alyaqeenu

et adore ton Seigneur jusqu'à ce que te vienne la certitude (la mort).

And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the Hour that is Certain.
