بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مُّعْرِضُونَ[1]

Iqtaraba lilnnasi hisabuhum wahum fee ghaflatin muAAridoona

[L'échéance] du règlement de leur compte approche pour les hommes, alors que dans leur insouciance ils s'en détournent.

Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and they turn away.

مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحْدَثٍ إِلَّا اسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ[2]

Ma yateehim min thikrin min rabbihim muhdathin illa istamaAAoohu wahum yalAAaboona

Aucun rappel [de révélation] récente ne leur vient de leur Seigneur, sans qu'ils ne l'entendent en s'amusant,

Never comes (aught) to them of a renewed Message from their Lord, but they listen to it as in jest,-

لَاهِيَةً قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ النَّجْوَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ هَلْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ ۖ أَفَتَأْتُونَ السِّحْرَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ[3]

Lahiyatan quloobuhum waasarroo alnnajwa allatheena thalamoo hal hatha illa basharun mithlukum afatatoona alssihra waantum tubsiroona

leurs cœurs distraits; et les injustes tiennent des conversations secrètes et disent: «Ce n'est là qu'un être humain semblable à vous? Allez-vous donc vous adonner à la magie alors que vous voyez clair?»

Their hearts toying as with trifles. The wrong-doers conceal their private counsels, (saying), "Is this (one) more than a man like yourselves? Will ye go to witchcraft with your eyes open?"

قَالَ رَبِّى يَعْلَمُ الْقَوْلَ فِى السَّمَآءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ[4]

Qala rabbee yaAAlamu alqawla fee alssamai waalardi wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

Il a répondu: «Mon Seigneur sait tout ce qui se dit au ciel et sur la terre; et Il est l'Audient, l'Omniscient».

Say: "My Lord knoweth (every) word (spoken) in the heavens and on earth: He is the One that heareth and knoweth (all things)."

بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَضْغَٰثُ أَحْلَٰمٍۭ بَلِ افْتَرَىٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٍ كَمَآ أُرْسِلَ الْأَوَّلُونَ[5]

Bal qaloo adghathu ahlamin bali iftarahu bal huwa shaAAirun falyatina biayatin kama orsila alawwaloona

Mais ils dirent: «Voilà plutôt un amas de rêves! Ou bien Il l'a inventé. Ou, c'est plutôt un poète. Qu'il nous apporte donc un signe [identique] à celui dont furent chargés les premiers envoyés».

"Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!"

مَآ ءَامَنَتْ قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَٰهَآ ۖ أَفَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ[6]

Ma amanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknaha afahum yuminoona

Pas une seule cité parmi celles que Nous avons fait périr avant eux n'avait cru [à la vue des miracles]. Ceux-ci croiront-ils donc?

(As to those) before them, not one of the populations which We destroyed believed: will these believe?

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ[7]

Wama arsalna qablaka illa rijalan noohee ilayhim faisaloo ahla alththikri in kuntum la taAAlamoona

Nous n'avons envoyé avant toi que des hommes à qui Nous faisions des révélations. Demandez donc aux érudits du Livre, si vous ne savez pas.

Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.

وَمَا جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ جَسَدًا لَّا يَأْكُلُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ خَٰلِدِينَ[8]

Wama jaAAalnahum jasadan la yakuloona alttaAAama wama kanoo khalideena

Et Nous n'en n'avons pas fait des corps qui ne consommaient pas de nourriture. Et ils n'étaient pas éternels.

Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death.

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَٰهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ[9]

Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAda faanjaynahum waman nashao waahlakna almusrifeena

Puis Nous réalisâmes la promesse (qui leur avait été faite). Nous les sauvâmes avec ceux que Nous voulûmes [sauver]. Et Nous fîmes périr les outranciers.

In the end We fulfilled to them Our Promise, and We saved them and those whom We pleased, but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds.

لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَٰبًا فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ[10]

Laqad anzalna ilaykum kitaban feehi thikrukum afala taAAqiloona

Nous avons assurément fait descendre vers vous un livre où se trouve votre rappel [ou votre renom]. Ne comprenez-vous donc pas?

We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand?

وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةً وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ[11]

Wakam qasamna min qaryatin kanat thalimatan waanshana baAAdaha qawman akhareena

Et que de cités qui ont commis des injustices, Nous avons brisées; et Nous avons créé d'autres peuples après eux.

How many were the populations We utterly destroyed because of their iniquities, setting up in their places other peoples?

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأْسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ[12]

Falamma ahassoo basana itha hum minha yarkudoona

Quand [ces gens] sentirent Notre rigueur ils s'en enfuirent hâtivement.

Yet, when they felt Our Punishment (coming), behold, they (tried to) flee from it.

لَا تَرْكُضُوا۟ وَارْجِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَ[13]

La tarkudoo wairjiAAoo ila ma otriftum feehi wamasakinikum laAAallakum tusaloona

Ne galopez point. Retournez plutôt au grand luxe où vous étiez et dans vos demeures, afin que vous soyez interrogés.

Flee not, but return to the good things of this life which were given you, and to your homes in order that ye may be called to account.

قَالُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ[14]

Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena

Ils dirent: «Malheur à nous! Nous étions vraiment injustes».

They said: "Ah! woe to us! We were indeed wrong-doers!"

فَمَا زَالَت تِّلْكَ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ حَصِيدًا خَٰمِدِينَ[15]

Fama zalat tilka daAAwahum hatta jaAAalnahum haseedan khamideena

Telle ne cessa d'être leur lamentation jusqu'à ce que Nous les eûmes moissonnés et éteints.

And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is mown, as ashes silent and quenched.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَآءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ[16]

Wama khalaqna alssamaa waalarda wama baynahuma laAAibeena

Ce n'est pas par jeu que Nous avons créé le ciel et la terre et ce qui est entre eux.

Not for (idle) sport did We create the heavens and the earth and all that is between!

لَوْ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهْوًا لَّاتَّخَذْنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآ إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ[17]

Law aradna an nattakhitha lahwan laittakhathnahu min ladunna in kunna faAAileena

Si Nous avions voulu prendre une distraction, Nous l'aurions prise de Nous-mêmes, si vraiment Nous avions voulu le faire.

If it had been Our wish to take (just) a pastime, We should surely have taken it from the things nearest to Us, if We would do (such a thing)!

بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى الْبَٰطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌ ۚ وَلَكُمُ الْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ[18]

Bal naqthifu bialhaqqi AAala albatili fayadmaghuhu faitha huwa zahiqun walakumu alwaylu mimma tasifoona

Bien au contraire, Nous lançons contre le faux la vérité qui le subjugue, et le voilà qui disparaît. Et malheur à vous pour ce que vous attribuez [injustement à Allah].

Nay, We hurl the Truth against falsehood, and it knocks out its brain, and behold, falsehood doth perish! Ah! woe be to you for the (false) things ye ascribe (to Us).

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَنْ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ[19]

Walahu man fee alssamawati waalardi waman AAindahu la yastakbiroona AAan AAibadatihi wala yastahsiroona

A Lui seul appartiennent tous ceux qui sont dans les cieux et sur la terre. Ceux qui sont auprès de Lui [les Anges] ne se considèrent point trop grands pour L'adorer et ne s'en lassent pas.

To Him belong all (creatures) in the heavens and on earth: Even those who are in His (very) Presence are not too proud to serve Him, nor are they (ever) weary (of His service):

يُسَبِّحُونَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ[20]

Yusabbihoona allayla waalnnahara la yafturoona

Ils exaltent Sa Gloire nuit et jour et ne s'interrompent point.

They celebrate His praises night and day, nor do they ever flag or intermit.

أَمِ اتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَةً مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ هُمْ يُنشِرُونَ[21]

Ami ittakhathoo alihatan mina alardi hum yunshiroona

Ont-ils pris des divinités qui peuvent ressusciter (les morts) de la terre?

Or have they taken (for worship) gods from the earth who can raise (the dead)?

لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا ۚ فَسُبْحَٰنَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ[22]

Law kana feehima alihatun illa Allahu lafasadata fasubhana Allahi rabbi alAAarshi AAamma yasifoona

S'il y avait dans le ciel et la terre des divinités autres qu'Allah, tous deux seraient certes dans le désordre. Gloire, donc à Allah, Seigneur du Trône; Il est au-dessus de ce qu'ils Lui attribuent!

If there were, in the heavens and the earth, other gods besides Allah, there would have been confusion in both! but glory to Allah, the Lord of the Throne: (High is He) above what they attribute to Him!

لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ وَهُمْ يُسْـَٔلُونَ[23]

La yusalu AAamma yafAAalu wahum yusaloona

Il n'est pas interrogé sur ce qu'Il fait, mais ce sont eux qui devront rendre compte [de leurs actes].

He cannot be questioned for His acts, but they will be questioned (for theirs).

أَمِ اتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً ۖ قُلْ هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَٰنَكُمْ ۖ هَٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَن مَّعِىَ وَذِكْرُ مَن قَبْلِى ۗ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ الْحَقَّ ۖ فَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ[24]

Ami ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan qul hatoo burhanakum hatha thikru man maAAiya wathikru man qablee bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona alhaqqa fahum muAAridoona

Ont-ils pris des divinités en dehors de Lui? Dis: «Apportez votre preuve». Ceci est la révélation de ceux qui sont avec moi et de ceux qui étaient avant moi. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne connaissent pas la vérité et s'en écartent.

Or have they taken for worship (other) gods besides him? Say, "Bring your convincing proof: this is the Message of those with me and the Message of those before me." But most of them know not the Truth, and so turn away.

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَاعْبُدُونِ[25]

Wama arsalna min qablika min rasoolin illa noohee ilayhi annahu la ilaha illa ana faoAAbudooni

Et Nous n'avons envoyé avant toi aucun Messager à qui Nous n'ayons révélé: «Point de divinité en dehors de Moi. Adorez-Moi donc».

Not a messenger did We send before thee without this inspiration sent by Us to him: that there is no god but I; therefore worship and serve Me.

وَقَالُوا۟ اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَدًا ۗ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ ۚ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُّكْرَمُونَ[26]

Waqaloo ittakhatha alrrahmanu waladan subhanahu bal AAibadun mukramoona

Et ils dirent: «Le Tout Miséricordieux s'est donné un enfant». Pureté à Lui! Mais ce sont plutôt des serviteurs honorés.

And they say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten offspring." Glory to Him! they are (but) servants raised to honour.

لَا يَسْبِقُونَهُۥ بِالْقَوْلِ وَهُم بِأَمْرِهِۦ يَعْمَلُونَ[27]

La yasbiqoonahu bialqawli wahum biamrihi yaAAmaloona

Ils ne devancent pas Son Commandement et agissent selon Ses ordres.

They speak not before He speaks, and they act (in all things) by His Command.

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنْ خَشْيَتِهِۦ مُشْفِقُونَ[28]

YaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wala yashfaAAoona illa limani irtada wahum min khashyatihi mushfiqoona

Il sait ce qui est devant eux et ce qui derrière eux. Et ils n'intercèdent qu'en faveur de ceux qu'Il a agréés [tout en étant] pénétrés de Sa crainte.

He knows what is before them, and what is behind them, and they offer no intercession except for those who are acceptable, and they stand in awe and reverence of His (Glory).

۞ وَمَن يَقُلْ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّىٓ إِلَٰهٌ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى الظَّٰلِمِينَ[29]

Waman yaqul minhum innee ilahun min doonihi fathalika najzeehi jahannama kathalika najzee alththalimeena

Et quiconque d'entre eux dirait: «Je suis une divinité en dehors de Lui». Nous le rétribuerons de l'Enfer. C'est ainsi que Nous rétribuons les injustes.

If any of them should say, "I am a god besides Him", such a one We should reward with Hell: thus do We reward those who do wrong.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَٰهُمَا ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ[30]

Awalam yara allatheena kafaroo anna alssamawati waalarda kanata ratqan fafataqnahuma wajaAAalna mina almai kulla shayin hayyin afala yuminoona

Ceux qui ont mécru, n'ont-ils pas vu que les cieux et la terre formaient une masse compacte? Ensuite Nous les avons séparés et fait de l'eau toute chose vivante. Ne croiront-ils donc pas?

Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

وَجَعَلْنَا فِى الْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجًا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ[31]

WajaAAalna fee alardi rawasiya an tameeda bihim wajaAAalna feeha fijajan subulan laAAallahum yahtadoona

Et Nous avons placé des montagnes fermes dans la terre, afin qu'elle ne s'ébranle pas en les [entraînant]. Et Nous y avons placé des défilés servant de chemins afin qu'ils se guident.

And We have set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways (between mountains) for them to pass through: that they may receive Guidance.

وَجَعَلْنَا السَّمَآءَ سَقْفًا مَّحْفُوظًا ۖ وَهُمْ عَنْ ءَايَٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ[32]

WajaAAalna alssamaa saqfan mahfoothan wahum AAan ayatiha muAAridoona

Et Nous avons fait du ciel un toit protégé. Et cependant ils se détournent de ses merveilles.

And We have made the heavens as a canopy well guarded: yet do they turn away from the Signs which these things (point to)!

وَهُوَ الَّذِى خَلَقَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ[33]

Wahuwa allathee khalaqa allayla waalnnahara waalshshamsa waalqamara kullun fee falakin yasbahoona

Et c'est Lui qui a créé la nuit et le jour, le soleil et la lune; chacun voguant dans une orbite.

It is He Who created the Night and the Day, and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course.

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدَ ۖ أَفَإِي۟ن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَٰلِدُونَ[34]

Wama jaAAalna libasharin min qablika alkhulda afain mitta fahumu alkhalidoona

Et Nous n'avons attribué l'immortalité à nul homme avant toi. Est-ce que si tu meurs, toi, ils seront, eux, éternels?

We granted not to any man before thee permanent life (here): if then thou shouldst die, would they live permanently?

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ۗ وَنَبْلُوكُم بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةً ۖ وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ[35]

Kullu nafsin thaiqatu almawti wanablookum bialshsharri waalkhayri fitnatan wailayna turjaAAoona

Toute âme doit goûter la mort. Nous vous éprouverons par le mal et par le bien [à titre] de tentation. Et c'est à Nous que vous serez ramenés.

Every soul shall have a taste of death: and We test you by evil and by good by way of trial. to Us must ye return.

وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَٰذَا الَّذِى يَذْكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَهُم بِذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ هُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ[36]

Waitha raaka allatheena kafaroo in yattakhithoonaka illa huzuwan ahatha allathee yathkuru alihatakum wahum bithikri alrrahmani hum kafiroona

Quand les mécréants te voient, ils ne te prennent qu'en dérision (disant): «Quoi! Est-ce-là celui qui médit de vos divinités?» Et ils nient [tout] rappel du Tout Miséricordieux.

When the Unbelievers see thee, they treat thee not except with ridicule. "Is this," (they say), "the one who talks of your gods?" and they blaspheme at the mention of (Allah) Most Gracious!

خُلِقَ الْإِنسَٰنُ مِنْ عَجَلٍ ۚ سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ ءَايَٰتِى فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ[37]

Khuliqa alinsanu min AAajalin saoreekum ayatee fala tastaAAjiloona

L'homme a été créé prompt dans sa nature. Je vous montrerai Mes signes [la réalisation de Mes menaces]. Ne me hâtez donc pas.

Man is a creature of haste: soon (enough) will I show you My Signs; then ye will not ask Me to hasten them!

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[38]

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena

Et ils disent: «A quand cette promesse si vous êtes véridiques?»

They say: "When will this promise come to pass, if ye are telling the truth?"

لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ[39]

Law yaAAlamu allatheena kafaroo heena la yakuffoona AAan wujoohihimu alnnara wala AAan thuhoorihim wala hum yunsaroona

Si [seulement] les mécréants connaissaient le moment où ils ne pourront empêcher le feu de leurs visages ni de leurs dos, et où ils ne seront point secourus.

If only the Unbelievers knew (the time) when they will not be able to ward off the fire from their faces, nor yet from their backs, and (when) no help can reach them!

بَلْ تَأْتِيهِم بَغْتَةً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ[40]

Bal tateehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum fala yastateeAAoona raddaha wala hum yuntharoona

Mais non, cela leur viendra subitement et ils seront alors stupéfaits; ils ne pourront pas le repousser et on ne leur donnera pas de répit.

Nay, it may come to them all of a sudden and confound them: no power will they have then to avert it, nor will they (then) get respite.

وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ[41]

Walaqadi istuhzia birusulin min qablika fahaqa biallatheena sakhiroo minhum ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona

On s'est moqué de messagers venus avant toi. Et ceux qui se sont moqués d'eux, se virent frapper de toutes parts par l'objet même de leurs moqueries.

Mocked were (many) messenger before thee; But their scoffers were hemmed in by the thing that they mocked.

قُلْ مَن يَكْلَؤُكُم بِالَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مِنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۗ بَلْ هُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ[42]

Qul man yaklaokum biallayli waalnnahari mina alrrahmani bal hum AAan thikri rabbihim muAAridoona

Dis: «Qui vous protège la nuit et le jour, contre le [châtiment] du Tout Miséricordieux?» Pourtant ils se détournent du rappel de leur Seigneur.

Say: "Who can keep you safe by night and by day from (the Wrath of) (Allah) Most Gracious?" Yet they turn away from the mention of their Lord.

أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَا ۚ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ[43]

Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum min doonina la yastateeAAoona nasra anfusihim wala hum minna yushaboona

Ont-ils donc des divinités en dehors de Nous, qui peuvent les protéger? Mais celles-ci ne peuvent ni se secourir elles-mêmes, ni se faire assister contre Nous.

Or have they gods that can guard them from Us? They have no power to aid themselves, nor can they be defended from Us.

بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُ ۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِى الْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَآ ۚ أَفَهُمُ الْغَٰلِبُونَ[44]

Bal mattaAAna haolai waabaahum hatta tala AAalayhimu alAAumuru afala yarawna anna natee alarda nanqusuha min atrafiha afahumu alghaliboona

Au contraire Nous avons accordé une jouissance [temporaire] à ceux-là comme à leurs ancêtres jusqu'à un âge avancé. Ne voient-ils pas que Nous venons à la terre que Nous réduisons de tous côtés? Seront-ils alors les vainqueurs?

Nay, We gave the good things of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win?

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِالْوَحْىِ ۚ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ الصُّمُّ الدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ[45]

Qul innama onthirukum bialwahyi wala yasmaAAu alssummu aldduAAaa itha ma yuntharoona

Dis: «Je vous avertis par ce qui m'est révélé». Les sourds, cependant, n'entendent pas l'appel quand on les avertit.

Say, "I do but warn you according to revelation": But the deaf will not hear the call, (even) when they are warned!

وَلَئِن مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٌ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ[46]

Walain massathum nafhatun min AAathabi rabbika layaqoolunna ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena

Si un souffle du châtiment de ton Seigneur les effleurait, ils diraient alors: «Malheur à nous! Nous étions vraiment injustes».

If but a breath of the Wrath of thy Lord do touch them, they will then say, "Woe to us! we did wrong indeed!"

وَنَضَعُ الْمَوَٰزِينَ الْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَ[47]

WanadaAAu almawazeena alqista liyawmi alqiyamati fala tuthlamu nafsun shayan wain kana mithqala habbatin min khardalin atayna biha wakafa bina hasibeena

Au Jour de la Résurrection, Nous placerons les balances exactes. Nulle âme ne sera lésée en rien, fût-ce du poids d'un grain de moutarde que Nous ferons venir. Nous suffisons largement pour dresser les comptes.

We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgment, so that not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least, and if there be (no more than) the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it (to account): and enough are We to take account.

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ الْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَآءً وَذِكْرًا لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ[48]

Walaqad atayna moosa waharoona alfurqana wadiyaan wathikran lilmuttaqeena

Nous avons déjà apporté à Moïse et Aaron le Livre du discernement (la Thora) ainsi qu'une lumière et un rappel pour les gens pieux,

In the past We granted to Moses and Aaron the criterion (for judgment), and a Light and a Message for those who would do right,-

الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُم مِّنَ السَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ[49]

Allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum bialghaybi wahum mina alssaAAati mushfiqoona

qui craignent leur Seigneur malgré qu'ils ne Le voient pas, et redoutent l'Heure (la fin du monde).

Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the Hour (of Judgment) in awe.

وَهَٰذَا ذِكْرٌ مُّبَارَكٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ ۚ أَفَأَنتُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ[50]

Wahatha thikrun mubarakun anzalnahu afaantum lahu munkiroona

Et ceci [le Coran] est un rappel béni que Nous avons fait descendre. Allez-vous donc le renier?

And this is a blessed Message which We have sent down: will ye then reject it?

۞ وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ رُشْدَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَٰلِمِينَ[51]

Walaqad atayna ibraheema rushdahu min qablu wakunna bihi AAalimeena

En effet, Nous avons mis auparavant Abraham sur le droit chemin. Et Nous en avions bonne connaissance.

We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him.

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلُ الَّتِىٓ أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَ[52]

Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi ma hathihi alttamatheelu allatee antum laha AAakifoona

Quand il dit à son père et à son peuple: «Que sont ces statues auxquelles vous vous attachez?»

Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?"

قَالُوا۟ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَٰبِدِينَ[53]

Qaloo wajadna abaana laha AAabideena

ils dirent: «Nous avons trouvé nos ancêtres les adorant».

They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them."

قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ[54]

Qala laqad kuntum antum waabaokum fee dalalin mubeenin

Il dit: «Certainement, vous avez été, vous et vos ancêtres, dans un égarement évident».

He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers."

قَالُوٓا۟ أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنتَ مِنَ اللَّٰعِبِينَ[55]

Qaloo ajitana bialhaqqi am anta mina allaAAibeena

Ils dirent: «Viens-tu à nous avec la vérité ou plaisantes-tu?»

They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?"

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمْ رَبُّ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الَّذِى فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ الشَّٰهِدِينَ[56]

Qala bal rabbukum rabbu alssamawati waalardi allathee fatarahunna waana AAala thalikum mina alshshahideena

Il dit: «Mais votre Seigneur est plutôt le Seigneur des cieux et de la terre, et c'est Lui qui les a créés. Et je suis un de ceux qui en témoignent.

He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth).

وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَٰمَكُم بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ مُدْبِرِينَ[57]

WataAllahi laakeedanna asnamakum baAAda an tuwalloo mudbireena

Et par Allah! Je ruserai certes contre vos idoles une fois que vous serez partis».

"And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs"..

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرًا لَّهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ[58]

FajaAAalahum juthathan illa kabeeran lahum laAAallahum ilayhi yarjiAAoona

Il les mit en pièces, hormis [la statue] la plus grande. Peut-être qu'ils reviendraient vers elle.

So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it.

قَالُوا۟ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ الظَّٰلِمِينَ[59]

Qaloo man faAAala hatha bialihatina innahu lamina alththalimeena

Ils dirent: «Qui a fait cela à nos divinités? Il est certes parmi les injustes».

They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!"

قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ[60]

Qaloo samiAAna fatan yathkuruhum yuqalu lahu ibraheemu

(Certains) dirent: «Nous avons entendu un jeune homme médire d'elles; il s'appelle Abraham».

They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham."

قَالُوا۟ فَأْتُوا۟ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ[61]

Qaloo fatoo bihi AAala aAAyuni alnnasi laAAallahum yashhadoona

Ils dirent: «Amenez-le sous les yeux des gens afin qu'ils puissent témoigner.

They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness."

قَالُوٓا۟ ءَأَنتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا يَٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ[62]

Qaloo aanta faAAalta hatha bialihatina ya ibraheemu

(Alors) ils dirent: «Est-ce toi qui as fait cela à nos divinités, Abraham?»

They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?"

قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَسْـَٔلُوهُمْ إِن كَانُوا۟ يَنطِقُونَ[63]

Qala bal faAAalahu kabeeruhum hatha faisaloohum in kanoo yantiqoona

Il dit: «C'est la plus grande d'entre elles que voici, qui l'a fait. Demandez-leur donc, si elles peuvent parler».

He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!"

فَرَجَعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ أَنتُمُ الظَّٰلِمُونَ[64]

FarajaAAoo ila anfusihim faqaloo innakum antumu alththalimoona

Se ravisant alors, ils se dirent entre eux: «C'est vous qui êtes les vrais injustes».

So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!"

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يَنطِقُونَ[65]

Thumma nukisoo AAala ruoosihim laqad AAalimta ma haolai yantiqoona

Puis ils firent volte-face et dirent: «Tu sais bien que celles-ci ne parlent pas».

Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!"

قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ[66]

Qala afataAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yanfaAAukum shayan wala yadurrukum

Il dit: «Adorez-vous donc, en dehors d'Allah, ce qui ne saurait en rien vous être utile ni vous nuire non plus.

(Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm?

أُفٍّ لَّكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ[67]

Offin lakum walima taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi afala taAAqiloona

Fi de vous et de ce que vous adorez en dehors d'Allah! Ne raisonnez-vous pas?»

"Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?"..

قَالُوا۟ حَرِّقُوهُ وَانصُرُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ[68]

Qaloo harriqoohu waonsuroo alihatakum in kuntum faAAileena

Ils dirent: «Brûlez-le. Secourez vos divinités si vous voulez faire quelque chose (pour elles)».

They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!"

قُلْنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِى بَرْدًا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ[69]

Qulna ya naru koonee bardan wasalaman AAala ibraheema

Nous dîmes: «O feu, sois pour Abraham une fraîcheur salutaire».

We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!"

وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمُ الْأَخْسَرِينَ[70]

Waaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alakhsareena

Ils voulaient ruser contre lui, mais ce sont eux que Nous rendîmes les plus grands perdants.

Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most!

وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِى بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَٰلَمِينَ[71]

Wanajjaynahu walootan ila alardi allatee barakna feeha lilAAalameena

Et Nous le sauvâmes, ainsi que Lot, vers une terre que Nous avions bénie pour tout l'univers.

But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations.

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةً ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا صَٰلِحِينَ[72]

Wawahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba nafilatan wakullan jaAAalna saliheena

Et Nous lui donnâmes Isaac et, de surcroît Jacob, desquels Nous fîmes des gens de bien.

And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them).

وَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ الصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ الزَّكَوٰةِ ۖ وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَ[73]

WajaAAalnahum aimmatan yahdoona biamrina waawhayna ilayhim fiAAla alkhayrati waiqama alssalati waeetaa alzzakati wakanoo lana AAabideena

Nous les fîmes des dirigeants qui guidaient par Notre ordre. Et Nous leur révélâmes de faire le bien, d'accomplir la prière et d'acquitter la Zakât. Et ils étaient Nos adorateurs.

And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only).

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِى كَانَت تَّعْمَلُ الْخَبَٰٓئِثَ ۗ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَٰسِقِينَ[74]

Walootan ataynahu hukman waAAilman wanajjaynahu mina alqaryati allatee kanat taAAmalu alkhabaitha innahum kanoo qawma sawin fasiqeena

Et Lot! Nous lui avons apporté la capacité de juger et le savoir, et Nous l'avons sauvé de la cité où se commettaient les vices; ces gens étaient vraiment des gens du mal, des pervers.

And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people.

وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُ فِى رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ الصَّٰلِحِينَ[75]

Waadkhalnahu fee rahmatina innahu mina alssaliheena

et Nous l'avons fait entrer en Notre miséricorde. Il était vraiment du nombre des gens de bien.

And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous.

وَنُوحًا إِذْ نَادَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ[76]

Wanoohan ith nada min qablu faistajabna lahu fanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbi alAAatheemi

Et Noé, quand auparavant il fit son appel. Nous l'exauçâmes et Nous le sauvâmes, ainsi que sa famille, de la grande angoisse,

(Remember) Noah, when he cried (to Us) aforetime: We listened to his (prayer) and delivered him and his family from great distress.

وَنَصَرْنَٰهُ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فَأَغْرَقْنَٰهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[77]

Wanasarnahu mina alqawmi allatheena kaththaboo biayatina innahum kanoo qawma sawin faaghraqnahum ajmaAAeena

et Nous le secourûmes contre le peuple qui traitait Nos prodiges de mensonges. Ils furent vraiment des gens du Mal. Nous les noyâmes donc tous.

We helped him against people who rejected Our Signs: truly they were a people given to Evil: so We drowned them (in the Flood) all together.

وَدَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ إِذْ يَحْكُمَانِ فِى الْحَرْثِ إِذْ نَفَشَتْ فِيهِ غَنَمُ الْقَوْمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكْمِهِمْ شَٰهِدِينَ[78]

Wadawooda wasulaymana ith yahkumani fee alharthi ith nafashat feehi ghanamu alqawmi wakunna lihukmihim shahideena

Et David, et Salomon, quand ils eurent à juger au sujet d'un champ cultivé où des moutons appartenant à une peuplade étaient allés paître, la nuit. Et Nous étions témoin de leur jugement.

And remember David and Solomon, when they gave judgment in the matter of the field into which the sheep of certain people had strayed by night: We did witness their judgment.

فَفَهَّمْنَٰهَا سُلَيْمَٰنَ ۚ وَكُلًّا ءَاتَيْنَا حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا ۚ وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ الْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَ ۚ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ[79]

Fafahhamnaha sulaymana wakullan atayna hukman waAAilman wasakhkharna maAAa dawooda aljibala yusabbihna waalttayra wakunna faAAileena

Nous la fîmes comprendre à Salomon. Et à chacun Nous donnâmes la faculté de juger et le savoir. Et Nous asservîmes les montagnes à exalter Notre Gloire en compagnie de David, ainsi que les oiseaux. Et c'est Nous qui sommes le Faiseur.

To Solomon We inspired the (right) understanding of the matter: to each (of them) We gave Judgment and Knowledge; it was Our power that made the hills and the birds celebrate Our praises, with David: it was We Who did (all these things).

وَعَلَّمْنَٰهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَّكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأْسِكُمْ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ شَٰكِرُونَ[80]

WaAAallamnahu sanAAata laboosin lakum lituhsinakum min basikum fahal antum shakiroona

Nous lui (David) apprîmes la fabrication des cottes de mailles afin qu'elles vous protègent contre vos violences mutuelles (la guerre). En êtes-vous donc reconnaissants?

It was We Who taught him the making of coats of mail for your benefit, to guard you from each other's violence: will ye then be grateful?

وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ الرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةً تَجْرِى بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِى بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا ۚ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَٰلِمِينَ[81]

Walisulaymana alrreeha AAasifatan tajree biamrihi ila alardi allatee barakna feeha wakunna bikulli shayin AAalimeena

Et (Nous avons soumis) à Salomon le vent impétueux qui, par son ordre, se dirigea vers la terre que Nous avions bénie. Et Nous sommes à même de tout savoir,

(It was Our power that made) the violent (unruly) wind flow (tamely) for Solomon, to his order, to the land which We had blessed: for We do know all things.

وَمِنَ الشَّيَٰطِينِ مَن يَغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَٰفِظِينَ[82]

Wamina alshshayateeni man yaghoosoona lahu wayaAAmaloona AAamalan doona thalika wakunna lahum hafitheena

et parmi les diables il en était qui plongeaient pour lui et faisaient d'autres travaux encore, et Nous les surveillions Nous-mêmes.

And of the evil ones, were some who dived for him, and did other work besides; and it was We Who guarded them.

۞ وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّٰحِمِينَ[83]

Waayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alddurru waanta arhamu alrrahimeena

Et Job, quand il implora son Seigneur: «Le mal m'a touché. Mais Toi, tu es le plus miséricordieux des miséricordieux»!

And (remember) Job, when He cried to his Lord, "Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful."

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرٍّ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْعَٰبِدِينَ[84]

Faistajabna lahu fakashafna ma bihi min durrin waataynahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan min AAindina wathikra lilAAabideena

Nous l'exauçâmes, enlevâmes le mal qu'il avait, lui rendîmes les siens et autant qu'eux avec eux, par miséricorde de Notre part et en tant que rappel aux adorateurs.

So We listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his people to him, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve Us.

وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصَّٰبِرِينَ[85]

WaismaAAeela waidreesa watha alkifli kullun mina alssabireena

Et Ismaël, Idris, et Dûl-Kifl! qui étaient tous endurants;

And (remember) Isma'il, Idris, and Zul-kifl, all (men) of constancy and patience;

وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُمْ فِى رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ الصَّٰلِحِينَ[86]

Waadkhalnahum fee rahmatina innahum mina alssaliheena

que Nous fîmes entrer en Notre miséricorde car ils étaient vraiment du nombre des gens de bien.

We admitted them to Our mercy: for they were of the righteous ones.

وَذَا النُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِى الظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّٰلِمِينَ[87]

Watha alnnooni ith thahaba mughadiban fathanna an lan naqdira AAalayhi fanada fee alththulumati an la ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina alththalimeena

Et Dû'n-Nûn (Jonas) quand il partit, irrité. Il pensa que Nous N'allions pas l'éprouver. Puis il fit, dans les ténèbres, l'appel que voici: «Pas de divinité à part Toi! Pureté à Toi! J'ai été vraiment du nombre des injustes».

And remember Zun-nun, when he departed in wrath: He imagined that We had no power over him! But he cried through the deptHs of darkness, "There is no god but thou: glory to thee: I was indeed wrong!"

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ مِنَ الْغَمِّ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُۨجِى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[88]

Faistajabna lahu wanajjaynahu mina alghammi wakathalika nunjee almumineena

Nous l'exauçâmes et le sauvâmes de son angoisse. Et c'est ainsi que Nous sauvons les croyants.

So We listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith.

وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِى فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَٰرِثِينَ[89]

Wazakariyya ith nada rabbahu rabbi la tatharnee fardan waanta khayru alwaritheena

Et Zacharie, quand il implora son Seigneur: «Ne me laisse pas seul, Seigneur, alors que Tu es le meilleur des héritiers».

And (remember) Zakariya, when he cried to his Lord: "O my Lord! leave me not without offspring, though thou art the best of inheritors."

فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُۥ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥ يَحْيَىٰ وَأَصْلَحْنَا لَهُۥ زَوْجَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى الْخَيْرَٰتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا ۖ وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَ[90]

Faistajabna lahu wawahabna lahu yahya waaslahna lahu zawjahu innahum kanoo yusariAAoona fee alkhayrati wayadAAoonana raghaban warahaban wakanoo lana khashiAAeena

Nous l'exauçâmes, lui donnâmes Yahya et guérîmes son épouse. Ils concouraient au bien et Nous invoquaient par amour et par crainte. Et ils étaient humbles devant Nous.

So We listened to him: and We granted him Yahya: We cured his wife's (Barrenness) for him. These (three) were ever quick in emulation in good works; they used to call on Us with love and reverence, and humble themselves before Us.

وَالَّتِىٓ أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَٰهَا وَابْنَهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ[91]

Waallatee ahsanat farjaha fanafakhna feeha min roohina wajaAAalnaha waibnaha ayatan lilAAalameena

Et celle [la vierge Marie] qui avait préservé sa chasteté! Nous insufflâmes en elle un souffle (de vie) venant de Nous et fîmes d'elle ainsi que de son fils, un signe [miracle] pour l'univers.

And (remember) her who guarded her chastity: We breathed into her of Our spirit, and We made her and her son a sign for all peoples.

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ[92]

Inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faoAAbudooni

Certes, cette communauté qui est la vôtre est une communauté unique, et Je suis votre Seigneur. Adorez-Moi donc.

Verily, this brotherhood of yours is a single brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore serve Me (and no other).

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلٌّ إِلَيْنَا رَٰجِعُونَ[93]

WataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum kullun ilayna rajiAAoona

Ils se sont divisés en sectes. Mais tous, retourneront à Nous.

But (later generations) cut off their affair (of unity), one from another: (yet) will they all return to Us.

فَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَا كُفْرَانَ لِسَعْيِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ كَٰتِبُونَ[94]

Faman yaAAmal mina alssalihati wahuwa muminun fala kufrana lisaAAyihi wainna lahu katiboona

Quiconque fait de bonnes œuvres tout en étant croyant, on ne méconnaîtra pas son effort, et Nous le lui inscrivons [à son actif].

Whoever works any act of righteousness and has faith,- His endeavour will not be rejected: We shall record it in his favour.

وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَٰهَآ أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ[95]

Waharamun AAala qaryatin ahlaknaha annahum la yarjiAAoona

Il est défendu [aux habitants] d'une cité que Nous avons fait périr de revenir [à la vie d'ici-bas]!

But there is a ban on any population which We have destroyed: that they shall not return,

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتْ يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٍ يَنسِلُونَ[96]

Hatta itha futihat yajooju wamajooju wahum min kulli hadabin yansiloona

Jusqu'à ce que soient relâchés les Yâjûj et les Mâjûj et qu'ils se précipiteront de chaque hauteur;

Until the Gog and Magog (people) are let through (their barrier), and they swiftly swarm from every hill.

وَاقْتَرَبَ الْوَعْدُ الْحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِىَ شَٰخِصَةٌ أَبْصَٰرُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَٰوَيْلَنَا قَدْ كُنَّا فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَٰذَا بَلْ كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ[97]

Waiqtaraba alwaAAdu alhaqqu faitha hiya shakhisatun absaru allatheena kafaroo ya waylana qad kunna fee ghaflatin min hatha bal kunna thalimeena

c'est alors que la vraie promesse s'approchera, tandis que les regards de ceux qui ont mécru se figent: «Malheur à nous! Nous y avons été inattentifs. Bien plus, nous étions des injustes».

Then will the true promise draw nigh (of fulfilment): then behold! the eyes of the Unbelievers will fixedly stare in horror: "Ah! Woe to us! we were indeed heedless of this; nay, we truly did wrong!"

إِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمْ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَ[98]

Innakum wama taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi hasabu jahannama antum laha waridoona

«Vous serez, vous et ce que vous adoriez en dehors d'Allah, le combustible de l'Enfer, vous vous y rendrez tous.

Verily ye, (unbelievers), and the (false) gods that ye worship besides Allah, are (but) fuel for Hell! to it will ye (surely) come!

لَوْ كَانَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ءَالِهَةً مَّا وَرَدُوهَا ۖ وَكُلٌّ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ[99]

Law kana haolai alihatan ma waradooha wakullun feeha khalidoona

Si ceux-là étaient vraiment des divinités, ils n'y entreraient pas; et tous y demeureront éternellement.

If these had been gods, they would not have got there! but each one will abide therein.

لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يَسْمَعُونَ[100]

Lahum feeha zafeerun wahum feeha la yasmaAAoona

Ils y pousseront des gémissements, et n'y entendront rien.

There, sobbing will be their lot, nor will they there hear (aught else).

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ سَبَقَتْ لَهُم مِّنَّا الْحُسْنَىٰٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ عَنْهَا مُبْعَدُونَ[101]

Inna allatheena sabaqat lahum minna alhusna olaika AAanha mubAAadoona

En seront écartés, ceux à qui étaient précédemment promises de belles récompenses de Notre part.

Those for whom the good (record) from Us has gone before, will be removed far therefrom.

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَا ۖ وَهُمْ فِى مَا اشْتَهَتْ أَنفُسُهُمْ خَٰلِدُونَ[102]

La yasmaAAoona haseesaha wahum fee ma ishtahat anfusuhum khalidoona

Ils n'entendront pas son sifflement et jouiront éternellement de ce que leurs âmes désirent.

Not the slightest sound will they hear of Hell: what their souls desired, in that will they dwell.

لَا يَحْزُنُهُمُ الْفَزَعُ الْأَكْبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ الْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ هَٰذَا يَوْمُكُمُ الَّذِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ[103]

La yahzunuhumu alfazaAAu alakbaru watatalaqqahumu almalaikatu hatha yawmukumu allathee kuntum tooAAadoona

La grande terreur ne les affligera pas, et les Anges les accueilleront: «voici le jour qui vous a été promis».

The Great Terror will bring them no grief: but the angels will meet them (with mutual greetings): "This is your Day,- (the Day) that ye were promised."

يَوْمَ نَطْوِى السَّمَآءَ كَطَىِّ السِّجِلِّ لِلْكُتُبِ ۚ كَمَا بَدَأْنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُۥ ۚ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ[104]

Yawma natwee alssamaa katayyi alssijlli lilkutubi kama badana awwala khalqin nuAAeeduhu waAAdan AAalayna inna kunna faAAileena

Le jour où Nous plierons le ciel comme on plie le rouleau des livres. Tout comme Nous avons commencé la première création, ainsi Nous la répéterons; c'est une promesse qui Nous incombe et Nous l'accomplirons!

The Day that We roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books (completed),- even as We produced the first creation, so shall We produce a new one: a promise We have undertaken: truly shall We fulfil it.

وَلَقَدْ كَتَبْنَا فِى الزَّبُورِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ الذِّكْرِ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِىَ الصَّٰلِحُونَ[105]

Walaqad katabna fee alzzaboori min baAAdi alththikri anna alarda yarithuha AAibadiya alssalihoona

Et Nous avons certes écrit dans le Zabûr, après l'avoir mentionné (dans le Livre céleste), que la terre sera héritée par Mes bons serviteurs».

Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Moses): My servants the righteous, shall inherit the earth."

إِنَّ فِى هَٰذَا لَبَلَٰغًا لِّقَوْمٍ عَٰبِدِينَ[106]

Inna fee hatha labalaghan liqawmin AAabideena

Il y a en cela [ces enseignements] une communication à un peuple d'adorateurs!

Verily in this (Qur'an) is a Message for people who would (truly) worship Allah.

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ[107]

Wama arsalnaka illa rahmatan lilAAalameena

Et Nous ne t'avons envoyé qu'en miséricorde pour l'univers.

We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures.

قُلْ إِنَّمَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ[108]

Qul innama yooha ilayya annama ilahukum ilahun wahidun fahal antum muslimoona

Dis: «Voilà ce qui m'est révélé: Votre Dieu est un Dieu unique; Etes-vous Soumis?» [décidés à embrasser l'Islam]

Say: "What has come to me by inspiration is that your Allah is One Allah: will ye therefore bow to His Will (in Islam)?"

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ ءَاذَنتُكُمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٍ ۖ وَإِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ أَم بَعِيدٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ[109]

Fain tawallaw faqul athantukum AAala sawain wain adree aqareebun am baAAeedun ma tooAAadoona

Si ensuite ils se détournent dis alors: «Je vous ai avertis en toute équité; je ne sais si ce qui vous est promis est proche ou lointain.

But if they turn back, Say: "I have proclaimed the Message to you all alike and in truth; but I know not whether that which ye are promised is near or far.

إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْتُمُونَ[110]

Innahu yaAAlamu aljahra mina alqawli wayaAAlamu ma taktumoona

Il connaît ce que vous dites à haute voix et ce que vous cachez.

"It is He Who knows what is open in speech and what ye hide (in your hearts).

وَإِنْ أَدْرِى لَعَلَّهُۥ فِتْنَةٌ لَّكُمْ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ[111]

Wain adree laAAallahu fitnatun lakum wamataAAun ila heenin

Et je ne sais pas; ceci est peut-être une tentation pour vous et une jouissance pour un certain temps»!

"I know not but that it may be a trial for you, and a grant of (worldly) livelihood (to you) for a time."

قَٰلَ رَبِّ احْكُم بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَرَبُّنَا الرَّحْمَٰنُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ[112]

Qala rabbi ohkum bialhaqqi warabbuna alrrahmanu almustaAAanu AAala ma tasifoona

Il dit: «Seigneur, juge en toute justice! Et Notre Seigneur le Tout Miséricordieux, c'est Lui dont le secours est imploré contre vos assertions».

Say: "O my Lord! judge Thou in truth!" "Our Lord Most Gracious is the One Whose assistance should be sought against the blasphemies ye utter!"
