بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى لَهُۥ مَا فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى الْأَرْضِ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِى الْءَاخِرَةِ ۚ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ[1]

Alhamdu lillahi allathee lahu ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi walahu alhamdu fee alakhirati wahuwa alhakeemu alkhabeeru

Louange à Allah à qui appartient tout ce qui est dans les cieux et tout ce qui est sur la terre. Et louange à Lui dans l'au-delà. Et c'est Lui le Sage, le Parfaitement Connaisseur.

Praise be to Allah, to Whom belong all things in the heavens and on earth: to Him be Praise in the Hereafter: and He is Full of Wisdom, acquainted with all things.

يَعْلَمُ مَا يَلِجُ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمَا يَنزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَآءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا ۚ وَهُوَ الرَّحِيمُ الْغَفُورُ[2]

YaAAlamu ma yaliju fee alardi wama yakhruju minha wama yanzilu mina alssamai wama yaAAruju feeha wahuwa alrraheemu alghafooru

Il sait ce qui pénètre en terre et ce qui en sort, ce qui descend du ciel et ce qui y remonte. Et c'est Lui le Miséricordieux, le Pardonneur.

He knows all that goes into the earth, and all that comes out thereof; all that comes down from the sky and all that ascends thereto and He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving.

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَأْتِينَا السَّاعَةُ ۖ قُلْ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّى لَتَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ عَٰلِمِ الْغَيْبِ ۖ لَا يَعْزُبُ عَنْهُ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِى الْأَرْضِ وَلَآ أَصْغَرُ مِن ذَٰلِكَ وَلَآ أَكْبَرُ إِلَّا فِى كِتَٰبٍ مُّبِينٍ[3]

Waqala allatheena kafaroo la tateena alssaAAatu qul bala warabbee latatiyannakum AAalimi alghaybi la yaAAzubu AAanhu mithqalu tharratin fee alssamawati wala fee alardi wala asgharu min thalika wala akbaru illa fee kitabin mubeenin

Ceux qui ne croient pas disent: «L'Heure ne nous viendra pas». Dis: «Par mon Seigneur! Très certainement, elle vous viendra. [Mon Seigneur] le Connaisseur de l'Inconnaissable. Rien ne Lui échappe fût-il du poids d'un atome dans les cieux, comme sur la terre. Et rien n'existe de plus petit ni de plus grand, qui ne soit inscrit dans un Livre explicite,

The Unbelievers say, "Never to us will come the Hour": Say, "Nay! but most surely, by my Lord, it will come upon you;- by Him Who knows the unseen,- from Whom is not hidden the least little atom in the heavens or on earth: Nor is there anything less than that, or greater, but is in the Record Perspicuous:

لِّيَجْزِىَ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ[4]

Liyajziya allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati olaika lahum maghfiratun warizqun kareemun

afin qu'Il récompense ceux qui croient et accomplissent les bonnes œuvres. Pour ceux-ci, il y aura un pardon et un don généreux.

That He may reward those who believe and work deeds of righteousness: for such is Forgiveness and a Sustenance Most Generous."

وَالَّذِينَ سَعَوْ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مِّن رِّجْزٍ أَلِيمٌ[5]

Waallatheena saAAaw fee ayatina muAAajizeena olaika lahum AAathabun min rijzin aleemin

Et ceux qui s'efforcent de rendre vains Nos versets, ceux-là auront le châtiment d'un supplice douloureux.

But those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them,- for such will be a Penalty,- a Punishment most humiliating.

وَيَرَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ الْعِلْمَ الَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ هُوَ الْحَقَّ وَيَهْدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ[6]

Wayara allatheena ootoo alAAilma allathee onzila ilayka min rabbika huwa alhaqqa wayahdee ila sirati alAAazeezi alhameedi

Et ceux à qui le savoir a été donné voient que ce qu'on t'a fait descendre de la part de ton Seigneur est la vérité qui guide au chemin du Tout Puissant, du Digne de Louange.

And those to whom knowledge has come see that the (Revelation) sent down to thee from thy Lord - that is the Truth, and that it guides to the Path of the Exalted (in might), Worthy of all praise.

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَلْ نَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ يُنَبِّئُكُمْ إِذَا مُزِّقْتُمْ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍ إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ[7]

Waqala allatheena kafaroo hal nadullukum AAala rajulin yunabbiokum itha muzziqtum kulla mumazzaqin innakum lafee khalqin jadeedin

Et ceux qui ne croient pas dirent: «Voulez-vous que l'on vous montre un homme qui vous prédise que lorsque vous serez complètement désintégrés, vous reparaîtrez, sans nul doute, en une nouvelle création?

The Unbelievers say (in ridicule): "Shall we point out to you a man that will tell you, when ye are all scattered to pieces in disintegration, that ye shall (then be raised) in a New Creation?

أَفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَم بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ ۗ بَلِ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْءَاخِرَةِ فِى الْعَذَابِ وَالضَّلَٰلِ الْبَعِيدِ[8]

Aftara AAala Allahi kathiban am bihi jinnatun bali allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati fee alAAathabi waalddalali albaAAeedi

Invente-t-il un mensonge contre Allah? ou bien est-il fou?» [Non], mais ceux qui ne croient pas en l'au-delà sont voués au châtiment et à l'égarement lointain.

"Has he invented a falsehood against Allah, or has a spirit (seized) him?"- Nay, it is those who believe not in the Hereafter, that are in (real) Penalty, and in farthest error.

أَفَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُم مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ إِن نَّشَأْ نَخْسِفْ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضَ أَوْ نُسْقِطْ عَلَيْهِمْ كِسَفًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةً لِّكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ[9]

Afalam yaraw ila ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum mina alssamai waalardi in nasha nakhsif bihimu alarda aw nusqit AAalayhim kisafan mina alssamai inna fee thalika laayatan likulli AAabdin muneebin

Ne voient-ils donc pas ce qu'il y a comme ciel et comme terre devant et derrière eux? Si Nous voulions, Nous ferions que la terre les engloutisse, ou que des morceaux du ciel tombent sur eux. Il y a en cela une preuve pour tout serviteur repentant.

See they not what is before them and behind them, of the sky and the earth? If We wished, We could cause the earth to swallow them up, or cause a piece of the sky to fall upon them. Verily in this is a Sign for every devotee that turns to Allah (in repentance).

۞ وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ مِنَّا فَضْلًا ۖ يَٰجِبَالُ أَوِّبِى مَعَهُۥ وَالطَّيْرَ ۖ وَأَلَنَّا لَهُ الْحَدِيدَ[10]

Walaqad atayna dawooda minna fadlan ya jibalu awwibee maAAahu waalttayra waalanna lahu alhadeeda

Nous avons certes accordé une grâce à David de Notre part. O montagnes et oiseaux, répétez avec lui (les louanges d'Allah). Et pour lui, Nous avons amolli le fer,

We bestowed Grace aforetime on David from ourselves: "O ye Mountains! Sing ye back the Praises of Allah with him! and ye birds (also)! And We made the iron soft for him;-

أَنِ اعْمَلْ سَٰبِغَٰتٍ وَقَدِّرْ فِى السَّرْدِ ۖ وَاعْمَلُوا۟ صَٰلِحًا ۖ إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ[11]

Ani iAAmal sabighatin waqaddir fee alssardi waiAAmaloo salihan innee bima taAAmaloona baseerun

(en lui disant): «Fabrique des cottes de mailles complètes et mesure bien les mailles». Et faites le bien. Je suis Clairvoyant sur ce que vous faites.

(Commanding), "Make thou coast of mail, balancing well the rings of chain armour, and work ye righteousness; for be sure I see (clearly) all that ye do."

وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ الرِّيحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهْرٌ وَرَوَاحُهَا شَهْرٌ ۖ وَأَسَلْنَا لَهُۥ عَيْنَ الْقِطْرِ ۖ وَمِنَ الْجِنِّ مَن يَعْمَلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِۦ ۖ وَمَن يَزِغْ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ أَمْرِنَا نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ[12]

Walisulaymana alrreeha ghuduwwuha shahrun warawahuha shahrun waasalna lahu AAayna alqitri wamina aljinni man yaAAmalu bayna yadayhi biithni rabbihi waman yazigh minhum AAan amrina nuthiqhu min AAathabi alssaAAeeri

Et à Salomon (Nous avons assujetti) le vent, dont le parcours du matin équivaut à un mois (de marche) et le parcours du soir, un mois aussi. Et pour lui Nous avons fait couler la source de cuivre. Et parmi les djinns il y en a qui travaillaient sous ses ordres, par permission de son Seigneur. Quiconque d'entre eux, cependant, déviait de Notre ordre, Nous lui faisions goûter au châtiment de la fournaise.

And to Solomon (We made) the Wind (obedient): Its early morning (stride) was a month's (journey), and its evening (stride) was a month's (journey); and We made a Font of molten brass to flow for him; and there were Jinns that worked in front of him, by the leave of his Lord, and if any of them turned aside from our command, We made him taste of the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

يَعْمَلُونَ لَهُۥ مَا يَشَآءُ مِن مَّحَٰرِيبَ وَتَمَٰثِيلَ وَجِفَانٍ كَالْجَوَابِ وَقُدُورٍ رَّاسِيَٰتٍ ۚ اعْمَلُوٓا۟ ءَالَ دَاوُۥدَ شُكْرًا ۚ وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِىَ الشَّكُورُ[13]

YaAAmaloona lahu ma yashao min mahareeba watamatheela wajifanin kaaljawabi waqudoorin rasiyatin iAAmaloo ala dawooda shukran waqaleelun min AAibadiya alshshakooru

Ils exécutaient pour lui ce qu'il voulait: sanctuaires, statues, plateaux comme des bassins, et marmites bien ancrées. - «O famille de David, œuvrez par gratitude», alors qu'il y a eu peu de Mes serviteurs qui sont reconnaissants.

They worked for him as he desired, (making) arches, images, basons as large as reservoirs, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places): "Work ye, sons of David, with thanks! but few of My servants are grateful!"

فَلَمَّا قَضَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ الْمَوْتَ مَا دَلَّهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَوْتِهِۦٓ إِلَّا دَآبَّةُ الْأَرْضِ تَأْكُلُ مِنسَأَتَهُۥ ۖ فَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَيَّنَتِ الْجِنُّ أَن لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ الْغَيْبَ مَا لَبِثُوا۟ فِى الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِينِ[14]

Falamma qadayna AAalayhi almawta ma dallahum AAala mawtihi illa dabbatu alardi takulu minsaatahu falamma kharra tabayyanati aljinnu an law kanoo yaAAlamoona alghayba ma labithoo fee alAAathabi almuheeni

Puis, quand Nous décidâmes sa mort, il n'y eut pour les avertir de sa mort que la «bête de terre», qui rongea sa canne. Puis lorsqu'il s'écroula, il apparut de toute évidence aux djinns que s'ils savaient vraiment l'inconnu, ils ne seraient pas restés dans le supplice humiliant [de la servitude].

Then, when We decreed (Solomon's) death, nothing showed them his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his staff: so when he fell down, the Jinns saw plainly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have tarried in the humiliating Penalty (of their Task).

لَقَدْ كَانَ لِسَبَإٍ فِى مَسْكَنِهِمْ ءَايَةٌ ۖ جَنَّتَانِ عَن يَمِينٍ وَشِمَالٍ ۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِ رَبِّكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا۟ لَهُۥ ۚ بَلْدَةٌ طَيِّبَةٌ وَرَبٌّ غَفُورٌ[15]

Laqad kana lisabain fee maskanihim ayatun jannatani AAan yameenin washimalin kuloo min rizqi rabbikum waoshkuroo lahu baldatun tayyibatun warabbun ghafoorun

Il y avait assurément, pour la tribu de Saba' un Signe dans leurs habitat: deux jardins, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche. «Mangez de ce que votre Seigneur vous a attribué, et soyez-Lui reconnaissants: une bonne contrée et un Seigneur Pardonneur».

There was, for Saba, aforetime, a Sign in their home-land - two Gardens to the right and to the left. "Eat of the Sustenance (provided) by your Lord, and be grateful to Him: a territory fair and happy, and a Lord Oft-Forgiving!

فَأَعْرَضُوا۟ فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَيْلَ الْعَرِمِ وَبَدَّلْنَٰهُم بِجَنَّتَيْهِمْ جَنَّتَيْنِ ذَوَاتَىْ أُكُلٍ خَمْطٍ وَأَثْلٍ وَشَىْءٍ مِّن سِدْرٍ قَلِيلٍ[16]

FaaAAradoo faarsalna AAalayhim sayla alAAarimi wabaddalnahum bijannatayhim jannatayni thawatay okulin khamtin waathlin washayin min sidrin qaleelin

Mais ils se détournèrent. Nous déchaînâmes contre eux l'inondation du Barrage, et leur changeâmes leurs deux jardins en deux jardins aux fruits amers, tamaris et quelques jujubiers.

But they turned away (from Allah), and We sent against them the Flood (released) from the dams, and We converted their two garden (rows) into "gardens" producing bitter fruit, and tamarisks, and some few (stunted) Lote-trees.

ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيْنَٰهُم بِمَا كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ وَهَلْ نُجَٰزِىٓ إِلَّا الْكَفُورَ[17]

Thalika jazaynahum bima kafaroo wahal nujazee illa alkafoora

Ainsi les rétribuâmes Nous pour leur mécréance. Saurions-Nous sanctionner un autre que le mécréant?

That was the Requital We gave them because they ungratefully rejected Faith: and never do We give (such) requital except to such as are ungrateful rejecters.

وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْقُرَى الَّتِى بَٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا قُرًى ظَٰهِرَةً وَقَدَّرْنَا فِيهَا السَّيْرَ ۖ سِيرُوا۟ فِيهَا لَيَالِىَ وَأَيَّامًا ءَامِنِينَ[18]

WajaAAalna baynahum wabayna alqura allatee barakna feeha quran thahiratan waqaddarna feeha alssayra seeroo feeha layaliya waayyaman amineena

Et Nous avions placé entre eux et les cités que Nous avions bénies, d'autres cités proéminentes, et Nous avions évalué les étapes de voyage entre elles. «Voyagez entre elles pendant des nuits et des jours, en sécurité».

Between them and the Cities on which We had poured our blessings, We had placed Cities in prominent positions, and between them We had appointed stages of journey in due proportion: "Travel therein, secure, by night and by day."

فَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا بَٰعِدْ بَيْنَ أَسْفَارِنَا وَظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ وَمَزَّقْنَٰهُمْ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ[19]

Faqaloo rabbana baAAid bayna asfarina wathalamoo anfusahum fajaAAalnahum ahadeetha wamazzaqnahum kulla mumazzaqin inna fee thalika laayatin likulli sabbarin shakoorin

Puis, ils dirent: «Seigneur, allonge les distances entre nos étapes», et ils se firent du tort à eux-mêmes. Nous fîmes d'eux, donc, des sujets de légendes et les désintégrâmes totalement. Il y a en cela des avertissements pour tous grand endurant et grand reconnaissant.

But they said: "Our Lord! Place longer distances between our journey-stages": but they wronged themselves (therein). At length We made them as a tale (that is told), and We dispersed them all in scattered fragments. Verily in this are Signs for every (soul that is) patiently constant and grateful.

وَلَقَدْ صَدَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ إِبْلِيسُ ظَنَّهُۥ فَاتَّبَعُوهُ إِلَّا فَرِيقًا مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ[20]

Walaqad saddaqa AAalayhim ibleesu thannahu faittabaAAoohu illa fareeqan mina almumineena

Et Satan a très certainement rendu véridique sa conjecture à leur égard. Ils l'ont suivi donc, sauf un groupe parmi les croyants.

And on them did Satan prove true his idea, and they followed him, all but a party that believed.

وَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ عَلَيْهِم مِّن سُلْطَٰنٍ إِلَّا لِنَعْلَمَ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِالْءَاخِرَةِ مِمَّنْ هُوَ مِنْهَا فِى شَكٍّ ۗ وَرَبُّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَفِيظٌ[21]

Wama kana lahu AAalayhim min sultanin illa linaAAlama man yuminu bialakhirati mimman huwa minha fee shakkin warabbuka AAala kulli shayin hafeethun

Et pourtant il n'avait sur eux aucun pouvoir si ce n'est que Nous voulions distinguer celui qui croyait en l'au-delà et celui qui doutait. Ton Seigneur, cependant, assure la sauvegarde de toute chose.

But he had no authority over them,- except that We might test the man who believes in the Hereafter from him who is in doubt concerning it: and thy Lord doth watch over all things.

قُلِ ادْعُوا۟ الَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ فِى السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَلَا فِى الْأَرْضِ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِيهِمَا مِن شِرْكٍ وَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْهُم مِّن ظَهِيرٍ[22]

Quli odAAoo allatheena zaAAamtum min dooni Allahi la yamlikoona mithqala tharratin fee alssamawati wala fee alardi wama lahum feehima min shirkin wama lahu minhum min thaheerin

Dis: «Invoquez ceux qu'en dehors d'Allah vous prétendez [être des divinités]. Ils ne possèdent même pas le poids d'un atome, ni dans les cieux ni sur la terre. Ils n'ont jamais été associés à leur création et Il n'a personne parmi eux pour Le soutenir».

Say: "Call upon other (gods) whom ye fancy, besides Allah: They have no power,- not the weight of an atom,- in the heavens or on earth: No (sort of) share have they therein, nor is any of them a helper to Allah.

وَلَا تَنفَعُ الشَّفَٰعَةُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُۥ ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُزِّعَ عَن قُلُوبِهِمْ قَالُوا۟ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ الْحَقَّ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَلِىُّ الْكَبِيرُ[23]

Wala tanfaAAu alshshafaAAatu AAindahu illa liman athina lahu hatta itha fuzziAAa AAan quloobihim qaloo matha qala rabbukum qaloo alhaqqa wahuwa alAAaliyyu alkabeeru

L'intercession auprès de Lui ne profite qu'à celui en faveur duquel Il la permet. Quand ensuite la frayeur se sera éloignée de leurs cœurs, ils diront: «Qu'a dit votre Seigneur?» Ils répondront: «La Vérité; C'est Lui le Sublime, le Grand».

"No intercession can avail in His Presence, except for those for whom He has granted permission. So far (is this the case) that, when terror is removed from their hearts (at the Day of Judgment, then) will they say, 'what is it that your Lord commanded?' they will say, 'That which is true and just; and He is the Most High Most Great'."

۞ قُلْ مَن يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ قُلِ اللَّهُ ۖ وَإِنَّآ أَوْ إِيَّاكُمْ لَعَلَىٰ هُدًى أَوْ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ[24]

Qul man yarzuqukum mina alssamawati waalardi quli Allahu wainna aw iyyakum laAAala hudan aw fee dalalin mubeenin

Dis: «Qui vous nourrit du ciel et de la terre?» Dis: «Allah. C'est nous ou bien vous qui sommes sur une bonne voie, ou dans un égarement manifeste».

Say: "Who gives you sustenance, from the heavens and the earth?" Say: "It is Allah; and certain it is that either we or ye are on right guidance or in manifest error!"

قُل لَّا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّآ أَجْرَمْنَا وَلَا نُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ[25]

Qul la tusaloona AAamma ajramna wala nusalu AAamma taAAmaloona

Dis: «Vous ne serez pas interrogés sur les crimes que nous avons commis, et nous ne serons pas interrogés sur ce que vous faites».

Say: "Ye shall not be questioned as to our sins, nor shall we be questioned as to what ye do."

قُلْ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَا رَبُّنَا ثُمَّ يَفْتَحُ بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَهُوَ الْفَتَّاحُ الْعَلِيمُ[26]

Qul yajmaAAu baynana rabbuna thumma yaftahu baynana bialhaqqi wahuwa alfattahu alAAaleemu

Dis: «Notre Seigneur nous réunira, puis Il tranchera entre nous, avec la vérité, car c'est Lui le Grand Juge, l'Omniscient».

Say: "Our Lord will gather us together and will in the end decide the matter between us (and you) in truth and justice: and He is the one to decide, the One Who knows all."

قُلْ أَرُونِىَ الَّذِينَ أَلْحَقْتُم بِهِۦ شُرَكَآءَ ۖ كَلَّا ۚ بَلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ[27]

Qul arooniya allatheena alhaqtum bihi shurakaa kalla bal huwa Allahu alAAazeezu alhakeemu

Dis: «Montrez-moi ceux que vous Lui avez donnés comme associés. Eh bien, non! C'est plutôt Lui, Allah, le Puissant, le Sage».

Say: "Show me those whom ye have joined with Him as partners: by no means (can ye). Nay, He is Allah, the Exalted in Power, the Wise."

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا كَآفَّةً لِّلنَّاسِ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[28]

Wama arsalnaka illa kaffatan lilnnasi basheeran wanatheeran walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona

Et Nous ne t'avons envoyé qu'en tant qu'annonciateur et avertisseur pour toute l'humanité. Mais la plupart des gens ne savent pas.

We have not sent thee but as a universal (Messenger) to men, giving them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin), but most men understand not.

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[29]

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena

Et ils disent: «A quand cette promesse, si vous êtes véridiques?»

They say: "When will this promise (come to pass) if ye are telling the truth?"

قُل لَّكُم مِّيعَادُ يَوْمٍ لَّا تَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ عَنْهُ سَاعَةً وَلَا تَسْتَقْدِمُونَ[30]

Qul lakum meeAAadu yawmin la tastakhiroona AAanhu saAAatan wala tastaqdimoona

Dis: «Le rendez-vous est pour un jour que vous ne saurez retarder d'une heure, ni avancer!»

Say: "The appointment to you is for a Day, which ye cannot put back for an hour nor put forward."

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ بِهَٰذَا الْقُرْءَانِ وَلَا بِالَّذِى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ۗ وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذِ الظَّٰلِمُونَ مَوْقُوفُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يَرْجِعُ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ الْقَوْلَ يَقُولُ الَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أَنتُمْ لَكُنَّا مُؤْمِنِينَ[31]

Waqala allatheena kafaroo lan numina bihatha alqurani wala biallathee bayna yadayhi walaw tara ithi alththalimoona mawqoofoona AAinda rabbihim yarjiAAu baAAduhum ila baAAdin alqawla yaqoolu allatheena istudAAifoo lillatheena istakbaroo lawla antum lakunna mumineena

Et ceux qui avaient mécru dirent: «Jamais nous ne croirons à ce Coran ni à ce qui l'a précédé». Et si tu pouvais voir quand les injustes seront debout devant leur Seigneur, se renvoyant la parole les uns aux autres! Ceux que l'on considérait comme faibles diront à ceux qui s'enorgueillissaient: «Sans vous, nous aurions certes été croyants».

The Unbelievers say: "We shall neither believe in this scripture nor in (any) that (came) before it." Couldst thou but see when the wrong-doers will be made to stand before their Lord, throwing back the word (of blame) on one another! Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers!"

قَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوٓا۟ أَنَحْنُ صَدَدْنَٰكُمْ عَنِ الْهُدَىٰ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَكُم ۖ بَلْ كُنتُم مُّجْرِمِينَ[32]

Qala allatheena istakbaroo lillatheena istudAAifoo anahnu sadadnakum AAani alhuda baAAda ith jaakum bal kuntum mujrimeena

Ceux qui s'enorgueillissaient diront à ceux qu'ils considéraient comme faibles: «Est-ce nous qui vous avons repoussés de la bonne direction après qu'elle vous fut venue? Mais vous étiez plutôt des criminels».

The arrogant ones will say to those who had been despised: "Was it we who kept you back from Guidance after it reached you? Nay, rather, it was ye who transgressed.

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ بَلْ مَكْرُ الَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ إِذْ تَأْمُرُونَنَآ أَن نَّكْفُرَ بِاللَّهِ وَنَجْعَلَ لَهُۥٓ أَندَادًا ۚ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ النَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ الْعَذَابَ وَجَعَلْنَا الْأَغْلَٰلَ فِىٓ أَعْنَاقِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ[33]

Waqala allatheena istudAAifoo lillatheena istakbaroo bal makru allayli waalnnahari ith tamuroonana an nakfura biAllahi wanajAAala lahu andadan waasarroo alnnadamata lamma raawoo alAAathaba wajaAAalna alaghlala fee aAAnaqi allatheena kafaroo hal yujzawna illa ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Et ceux que l'on considérait comme faibles diront à ceux qui s'enorgueillissaient: «C'était votre stratagème, plutôt, nuit et jour, de nous commander de ne pas croire en Allah et de Lui donner des égaux». Et ils cacheront leur regret quand ils verront le châtiment. Nous placerons des carcans aux cous de ceux qui ont mécru: les rétribuerait-on autrement que selon ce qu'ils œuvraient?»

Those who had been despised will say to the arrogant ones: "Nay! it was a plot (of yours) by day and by night: Behold! Ye (constantly) ordered us to be ungrateful to Allah and to attribute equals to Him!" They will declare (their) repentance when they see the Penalty: We shall put yokes on the necks of the Unbelievers: It would only be a requital for their (ill) Deeds.

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ[34]

Wama arsalna fee qaryatin min natheerin illa qala mutrafooha inna bima orsiltum bihi kafiroona

Et Nous n'avons envoyé aucun avertisseur dans une cité sans que ses gens aisés n'aient dit: «Nous ne croyons pas au message avec lequel vous êtes envoyés».

Never did We send a warner to a population, but the wealthy ones among them said: "We believe not in the (Message) with which ye have been sent."

وَقَالُوا۟ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَمْوَٰلًا وَأَوْلَٰدًا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ[35]

Waqaloo nahnu aktharu amwalan waawladan wama nahnu bimuAAaththabeena

Et ils dirent: «Nous avons davantage de richesses et d'enfants et nous ne serons pas châtiés».

They said: "We have more in wealth and in sons, and we cannot be punished."

قُلْ إِنَّ رَبِّى يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[36]

Qul inna rabbee yabsutu alrrizqa liman yashao wayaqdiru walakinna akthara alnnasi la yaAAlamoona

Dis: «Mon Seigneur dispense avec largesse ou restreint Ses dons à qui Il veut. Mais la plupart des gens ne savent pas».

Say: "Verily my Lord enlarges and restricts the Provision to whom He pleases, but most men understand not."

وَمَآ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُم بِالَّتِى تُقَرِّبُكُمْ عِندَنَا زُلْفَىٰٓ إِلَّا مَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحًا فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ جَزَآءُ الضِّعْفِ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِى الْغُرُفَٰتِ ءَامِنُونَ[37]

Wama amwalukum wala awladukum biallatee tuqarribukum AAindana zulfa illa man amana waAAamila salihan faolaika lahum jazao alddiAAfi bima AAamiloo wahum fee alghurufati aminoona

Ni vos biens ni vos enfants ne vous rapprocheront à proximité de Nous. Sauf celui qui croit et œuvre dans le bien. Ceux-là auront une double récompense pour ce qu'ils œuvraient, tandis qu'ils seront en sécurité, aux étages supérieurs (du Paradis).

It is not your wealth nor your sons, that will bring you nearer to Us in degree: but only those who believe and work righteousness - these are the ones for whom there is a multiplied Reward for their deeds, while secure they (reside) in the dwellings on high!

وَالَّذِينَ يَسْعَوْنَ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ فِى الْعَذَابِ مُحْضَرُونَ[38]

Waallatheena yasAAawna fee ayatina muAAajizeena olaika fee alAAathabi muhdaroona

Et quant à ceux qui s'efforcent à rendre Nos versets inefficients, ceux-là seront forcés de se présenter au châtiment.

Those who strive against Our Signs, to frustrate them, will be given over into Punishment.

قُلْ إِنَّ رَبِّى يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ لَهُۥ ۚ وَمَآ أَنفَقْتُم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَهُوَ يُخْلِفُهُۥ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّٰزِقِينَ[39]

Qul inna rabbee yabsutu alrrizqa liman yashao min AAibadihi wayaqdiru lahu wama anfaqtum min shayin fahuwa yukhlifuhu wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

Dis: «Mon Seigneur dispense avec largesse ou restreint Ses dons à qui Il veut parmi ses serviteurs. Et toute dépense que vous faites [dans le bien], Il la remplace, et c'est Lui le Meilleur des donateurs».

Say: "Verily my Lord enlarges and restricts the Sustenance to such of his servants as He pleases: and nothing do ye spend in the least (in His cause) but He replaces it: for He is the Best of those who grant Sustenance.

وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يَقُولُ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ أَهَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِيَّاكُمْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ[40]

Wayawma yahshuruhum jameeAAan thumma yaqoolu lilmalaikati ahaolai iyyakum kanoo yaAAbudoona

Et un jour Il les rassemblera tous. Puis Il dira aux Anges: «Est-ce vous que ces gens-là adoraient?»

One Day He will gather them all together, and say to the angels, "Was it you that these men used to worship?"

قَالُوا۟ سُبْحَٰنَكَ أَنتَ وَلِيُّنَا مِن دُونِهِم ۖ بَلْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ الْجِنَّ ۖ أَكْثَرُهُم بِهِم مُّؤْمِنُونَ[41]

Qaloo subhanaka anta waliyyuna min doonihim bal kanoo yaAAbudoona aljinna aktharuhum bihim muminoona

Ils diront: «Gloire à Toi! Tu es notre Allié en dehors d'eux. Ils adoraient plutôt les djinns, en qui la plupart d'entre eux croyaient.

They will say, "Glory to Thee! our (tie) is with Thee - as Protector - not with them. Nay, but they worshipped the Jinns: most of them believed in them."

فَالْيَوْمَ لَا يَمْلِكُ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ نَّفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا وَنَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ النَّارِ الَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ[42]

Faalyawma la yamliku baAAdukum libaAAdin nafAAan wala darran wanaqoolu lillatheena thalamoo thooqoo AAathaba alnnari allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboona

Ce jour-là donc, vous n'aurez aucun moyen pour profiter ou nuire les uns aux autres, tandis que Nous dirons aux injustes: «Goûtez au châtiment du Feu que vous traitiez de mensonge».

So on that Day no power shall they have over each other, for profit or harm: and We shall say to the wrong-doers, "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire,- the which ye were wont to deny!"

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٍ قَالُوا۟ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ يُرِيدُ أَن يَصُدَّكُمْ عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفْكٌ مُّفْتَرًى ۚ وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ[43]

Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna bayyinatin qaloo ma hatha illa rajulun yureedu an yasuddakum AAamma kana yaAAbudu abaokum waqaloo ma hatha illa ifkun muftaran waqala allatheena kafaroo lilhaqqi lamma jaahum in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun

Et quand Nos versets édifiants leur sont récités, ils disent: Ce n'est là qu'un homme qui veut vous repousser de ce que vos ancêtres adoraient». Et ils disent: «Ceci (Le Coran) n'est qu'un mensonge inventé». Et ceux qui ne croient pas disent de la Vérité quand elle leur vient: «Ce n'est là qu'une magie évidente!»

When Our Clear Signs are rehearsed to them, they say, "This is only a man who wishes to hinder you from the (worship) which your fathers practised." And they say, "This is only a falsehood invented!" and the Unbelievers say of the Truth when it comes to them, "This is nothing but evident magic!"

وَمَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّن كُتُبٍ يَدْرُسُونَهَا ۖ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمْ قَبْلَكَ مِن نَّذِيرٍ[44]

Wama ataynahum min kutubin yadrusoonaha wama arsalna ilayhim qablaka min natheerin

[Pourtant] Nous ne leur avons pas donné de livres à étudier. Et Nous ne leur avons envoyé avant toi aucun avertisseur.

But We had not given them Books which they could study, nor sent messengers to them before thee as Warners.

وَكَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَمَا بَلَغُوا۟ مِعْشَارَ مَآ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ رُسُلِى ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ[45]

Wakaththaba allatheena min qablihim wama balaghoo miAAshara ma ataynahum fakaththaboo rusulee fakayfa kana nakeeri

Ceux d'avant eux avaient [aussi] démenti (leurs messagers). [Les Mecquois] n'ont pas atteint le dixième de ce que Nous leur avons donné [en force et en richesse]. Ils traitaient Mes Messagers de menteurs. Et quelle réprobation fut la mienne!

And their predecessors rejected (the Truth); these have not received a tenth of what We had granted to those: yet when they rejected My messengers, how (terrible) was My rejection (of them)!

۞ قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَعِظُكُم بِوَٰحِدَةٍ ۖ أَن تَقُومُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مَثْنَىٰ وَفُرَٰدَىٰ ثُمَّ تَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۚ مَا بِصَاحِبِكُم مِّن جِنَّةٍ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ لَّكُم بَيْنَ يَدَىْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ[46]

Qul innama aAAithukum biwahidatin an taqoomoo lillahi mathna wafurada thumma tatafakkaroo ma bisahibikum min jinnatin in huwa illa natheerun lakum bayna yaday AAathabin shadeedin

Dis: «Je vous exhorte seulement à une chose: que pour Allah vous vous leviez, par deux ou isolément, et qu'ensuite vous réfléchissiez. Votre compagnon (Muhammad) n'est nullement possédé: il n'est pour vous qu'un avertisseur annonçant un dur châtiment».

Say: "I do admonish you on one point: that ye do stand up before Allah,- (It may be) in pairs, or (it may be) singly,- and reflect (within yourselves): your Companion is not possessed: he is no less than a warner to you, in face of a terrible Penalty."

قُلْ مَا سَأَلْتُكُم مِّنْ أَجْرٍ فَهُوَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ[47]

Qul ma saaltukum min ajrin fahuwa lakum in ajriya illa AAala Allahi wahuwa AAala kulli shayin shaheedun

Dis: «Ce que je vous demande comme salaire, c'est pour vous-mêmes. Car mon salaire n'incombe qu'à Allah. Il est Témoin de toute chose».

Say: "No reward do I ask of you: it is (all) in your interest: my reward is only due from Allah: And He is witness to all things."

قُلْ إِنَّ رَبِّى يَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَّٰمُ الْغُيُوبِ[48]

Qul inna rabbee yaqthifu bialhaqqi AAallamu alghuyoobi

Dis: «Certes, mon Seigneur lance la Vérité, [à Ses messagers], Il est le Parfait Connaisseur des inconnaissables».

Say: "Verily my Lord doth cast the (mantle of) Truth (over His servants),- He that has full knowledge of (all) that is hidden."

قُلْ جَآءَ الْحَقُّ وَمَا يُبْدِئُ الْبَٰطِلُ وَمَا يُعِيدُ[49]

Qul jaa alhaqqu wama yubdio albatilu wama yuAAeedu

Dis: «La vérité [l'Islam] est venue. Et le Faux [la mécréance] ne peut rien commencer ni renouveler».

Say: "The Truth has arrived, and Falsehood neither creates anything new, nor restores anything."

قُلْ إِن ضَلَلْتُ فَإِنَّمَآ أَضِلُّ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِى ۖ وَإِنِ اهْتَدَيْتُ فَبِمَا يُوحِىٓ إِلَىَّ رَبِّىٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِيعٌ قَرِيبٌ[50]

Qul in dalaltu fainnama adillu AAala nafsee waini ihtadaytu fabima yoohee ilayya rabbee innahu sameeAAun qareebun

Dis: «Si je m'égare, je ne m'égare qu'à mes dépens; tandis que si je me guide, alors c'est grâce à ce que Mon Seigneur me révèle, car Il est Audient et Proche».

Say: "If I am astray, I only stray to the loss of my own soul: but if I receive guidance, it is because of the inspiration of my Lord to me: it is He Who hears all things, and is (ever) near."

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ فَزِعُوا۟ فَلَا فَوْتَ وَأُخِذُوا۟ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ[51]

Walaw tara ith faziAAoo fala fawta waokhithoo min makanin qareebin

Si tu les voyais quand ils seront saisis de peur, - pas d'échappatoire pour eux -, et ils seront saisis de près!

If thou couldst but see when they will quake with terror; but then there will be no escape (for them), and they will be seized from a position (quite) near.

وَقَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ التَّنَاوُشُ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍ[52]

Waqaloo amanna bihi waanna lahumu alttanawushu min makanin baAAeedin

Ils diront alors: «Nous croyons en lui». - Mais comment atteindront-ils la foi de si loin?

And they will say, "We do believe (now) in the (Truth)"; but how could they receive (Faith) from a position (so far off,-

وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَيَقْذِفُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍ[53]

Waqad kafaroo bihi min qablu wayaqthifoona bialghaybi min makanin baAAeedin

alors qu'auparavant ils y avaient effectivement mécru et ils offensent l'inconnu à partir d'un endroit éloigné !

Seeing that they did reject Faith (entirely) before, and that they (continually) cast (slanders) on the unseen from a position far off?

وَحِيلَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ مَا يَشْتَهُونَ كَمَا فُعِلَ بِأَشْيَاعِهِم مِّن قَبْلُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ فِى شَكٍّ مُّرِيبٍۭ[54]

Waheela baynahum wabayna ma yashtahoona kama fuAAila biashyaAAihim min qablu innahum kanoo fee shakkin mureebin

On les empêchera d'atteindre ce qu'ils désirent, comme cela fut fait auparavant avec leurs semblables, car ils se trouvaient dans un doute profond.

And between them and their desires, is placed a barrier, as was done in the past with their partisans: for they were indeed in suspicious (disquieting) doubt.
