بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ صٓ ۚ وَالْقُرْءَانِ ذِى الذِّكْرِ[1]

Sad waalqurani thee alththikri

Sâd. Par le Coran, au renom glorieux (dikr)!

Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth).

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ[2]

Bali allatheena kafaroo fee AAizzatin washiqaqin

Ceux qui ont mécru sont plutôt dans l'orgueil et le schisme!

But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism.

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا۟ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ[3]

Kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarnin fanadaw walata heena manasin

Que de générations avant eux avons-Nous fait périr, qui ont crié, hélas, quand il n'était plus temps d'échapper?

How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved!

وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ[4]

WaAAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum waqala alkafiroona hatha sahirun kaththabun

Et ils (les Mecquois) s'étonnèrent qu'un avertisseur parmi eux leur soit venu, et les infidèles disent: «C'est un magicien et un grand menteur,

So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!

أَجَعَلَ الْءَالِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَٰحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ[5]

AjaAAala alalihata ilahan wahidan inna hatha lashayon AAujabun

Réduira-t-il les divinités à un Seul Dieu? Voilà une chose vraiment étonnante».

"Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"

وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا۟ وَاصْبِرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ يُرَادُ[6]

Waintalaqa almalao minhum ani imshoo waisbiroo AAala alihatikum inna hatha lashayon yuradu

Et leurs notables partirent en disant: «Allez-vous en, et restez constants à vos dieux: c'est là vraiment une chose souhaitable.

And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِى الْمِلَّةِ الْءَاخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا اخْتِلَٰقٌ[7]

Ma samiAAna bihatha fee almillati alakhirati in hatha illa ikhtilaqun

Nous n'avons pas entendu cela dans la dernière religion (le Christianisme); ce n'est en vérité que pure invention!

"We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!"

أَءُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِى ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِ[8]

Aonzila AAalayhi alththikru min baynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lamma yathooqoo AAathabi

Quoi! C'est sur lui, parmi nous, qu'on aurait fait descendre le Rappel [le Coran]?» Plutôt ils sont dans le doute au sujet de Mon message. Ou plutôt ils n'ont pas encore goûté à Mon châtiment!

"What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ[9]

Am AAindahum khazainu rahmati rabbika alAAazeezi alwahhabi

Ou bien détiennent-ils les trésors de la miséricorde de ton Seigneur, le Puissant, le Dispensateur par excellence.

Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?

أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ فِى الْأَسْبَٰبِ[10]

Am lahum mulku alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma falyartaqoo fee alasbabi

Ou bien ont-ils le royaume des cieux et de la terre et de ce qui existe entre eux? Eh bien, qu'ils y montent par n'importe quel moyen!

Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!

جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ[11]

Jundun ma hunalika mahzoomun mina alahzabi

Une armée de coalisés qui, ici-même, sera mise en déroute!

But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates.

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ[12]

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waAAadun wafirAAawnu thoo alawtadi

Avant eux, le peuple de Noé, les Aad et Pharaon l'homme aux pals (ou aux Pyramides),

Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,

وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ[13]

Wathamoodu waqawmu lootin waashabu alaykati olaika alahzabu

et les Tamûd, le peuple de Lot, et les gens d'Al-Aykah, (ont tous démenti leurs Messagers). Voilà les coalisés.

And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates.

إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ[14]

In kullun illa kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa AAiqabi

Il n'en est aucun qui n'ait traité les Messagers de menteurs. Et bien, Ma punition s'est avérée contre eux!

Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).

وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ[15]

Wama yanthuru haolai illa sayhatan wahidatan ma laha min fawaqin

Ceux-ci n'attendant qu'un seul Cri, sans répétition.

These (today) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.

وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ[16]

Waqaloo rabbana AAajjil lana qittana qabla yawmi alhisabi

Et ils disent: «Seigneur, hâte-nous notre part avant le jour des Comptes».

They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"

اصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا الْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ[17]

Isbir AAala ma yaqooloona waothkur AAabdana dawooda tha alaydi innahu awwabun

Endure ce qu'ils disent; et rappelle-toi David, Notre serviteur, doué de force [dans l'adoration] et plein de repentir [à Allah].

Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).

إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِىِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ[18]

Inna sakhkharna aljibala maAAahu yusabbihna bialAAashiyyi waalishraqi

Nous soumîmes les montagnes à glorifier Allah, soir et matin, en sa compagnie,

It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,

وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ[19]

Waalttayra mahshooratan kullun lahu awwabun

de même que les oiseaux assemblés en masse, tous ne faisant qu'obéir à lui [Allah].

And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).

وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ[20]

Washadadna mulkahu waataynahu alhikmata wafasla alkhitabi

Et Nous renforçâmes son royaume et lui donnâmes la sagesse et la faculté de bien juger.

We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.

۞ وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ الْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ الْمِحْرَابَ[21]

Wahal ataka nabao alkhasmi ith tasawwaroo almihraba

Et t'est-elle parvenue la nouvelle des disputeurs quand ils grimpèrent au mur du sanctuaire!

Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;

إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ الصِّرَٰطِ[22]

Ith dakhaloo AAala dawooda fafaziAAa minhum qaloo la takhaf khasmani bagha baAAduna AAala baAAdin faohkum baynana bialhaqqi wala tushtit waihdina ila sawai alssirati

Quand ils entrèrent auprès de David, il en fut effrayé. Ils dirent: «N'aie pas peur! Nous sommes tous deux en dispute; l'un de nous a fait du tort à l'autre. Juge donc en toute équité entre nous, ne sois pas injuste et guide-nous vers le chemin droit.

When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path..

إِنَّ هَٰذَآ أَخِى لَهُۥ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِىَ نَعْجَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِى فِى الْخِطَابِ[23]

Inna hatha akhee lahu tisAAun watisAAoona naAAjatan waliya naAAjatun wahidatun faqala akfilneeha waAAazzanee fee alkhitabi

Celui-ci est mon frère: il a quatre-vingt-dix-neuf brebis, tandis que je n'ai qu'une brebis. Il m'a dit: «Confie-la-moi» et dans la conversation, il a beaucoup fait pression sur moi».

"This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."

قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩[24]

Qala laqad thalamaka bisuali naAAjatika ila niAAajihi wainna katheeran mina alkhulatai layabghee baAAduhum AAala baAAdin illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati waqaleelun ma hum wathanna dawoodu annama fatannahu faistaghfara rabbahu wakharra rakiAAan waanaba

Il [David] dit: «Il a été certes injuste envers toi en demandant de joindre ta brebis à ses brebis». Beaucoup de gens transgressent les droits de leurs associés, sauf ceux qui croient et accomplissent les bonnes œuvres - cependant ils sont bien rares -. Et David pensa alors que Nous l'avions mis à l'épreuve. Il demanda donc pardon à son Seigneur et tomba prosterné et se repentit.

(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"... and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).

فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ[25]

Faghafarna lahu thalika wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin

Nous lui pardonnâmes. Il aura une place proche de Nous et un beau refuge.

So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (Final) Return.

يَٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى الْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌۢ بِمَا نَسُوا۟ يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ[26]

Ya dawoodu inna jaAAalnaka khaleefatan fee alardi faohkum bayna alnnasi bialhaqqi wala tattabiAAi alhawa fayudillaka AAan sabeeli Allahi inna allatheena yadilloona AAan sabeeli Allahi lahum AAathabun shadeedun bima nasoo yawma alhisabi

«O David, Nous avons fait de toi un calife sur la terre. Juge donc en toute équité parmi les gens et ne suis pas la passion: sinon elle t'égarera du sentier d'Allah». Car ceux qui s'égarent du sentier d'Allah auront un dur châtiment pour avoir oublié le Jour des Comptes.

O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَآءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَٰطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنَ النَّارِ[27]

Wama khalaqna alssamaa waalarda wama baynahuma batilan thalika thannu allatheena kafaroo fawaylun lillatheena kafaroo mina alnnari

Nous n'avons pas créé le ciel et la terre et ce qui existe entre eux en vain. C'est ce que pensent ceux qui ont mécru. Malheur à ceux qui ont mécru pour le feu [qui les attend]!

Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! that were the thought of Unbelievers! but woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!

أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِى الْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ[28]

Am najAAalu allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati kaalmufsideena fee alardi am najAAalu almuttaqeena kaalfujjari

Traiterons-Nous ceux qui croient et accomplissent les bonnes œuvres comme ceux qui commettent du désordre sur terre? ou traiterons-Nous les pieux comme les pervers?

Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil, the same as those who turn aside from the right?

كِتَٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ الْأَلْبَٰبِ[29]

Kitabun anzalnahu ilayka mubarakun liyaddabbaroo ayatihi waliyatathakkara oloo alalbabi

[Voici] un Livre béni que Nous avons fait descendre vers toi, afin qu'ils méditent sur ses versets et que les doués d'intelligence réfléchissent!

(Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.

وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُۥدَ سُلَيْمَٰنَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ[30]

Wawahabna lidawooda sulaymana niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

Et à David Nous fîmes don de Salomon, - quel bon serviteur! - Il était plein de repentir.

To David We gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!

إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِىِّ الصَّٰفِنَٰتُ الْجِيَادُ[31]

Ith AAurida AAalayhi bialAAashiyyi alssafinatu aljiyadu

Quand un après-midi, on lui présenta de magnifiques chevaux de course,

Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot;

فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ[32]

Faqala innee ahbabtu hubba alkhayri AAan thikri rabbee hatta tawarat bialhijabi

il dit: «Oui, je me suis complu à aimer les biens (de ce monde) au point [d'oublier] le rappel de mon Seigneur jusqu'à ce que [le soleil] se soit caché derrière son voile.

And he said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord,"- until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of night):

رُدُّوهَا عَلَىَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًۢا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ[33]

Ruddooha AAalayya fatafiqa mashan bialssooqi waalaAAnaqi

Ramenez-les moi.» Alors il se mit à leur couper les pattes et les cous.

"Bring them back to me." then began he to pass his hand over (their) legs and their necks.

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَٰنَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِۦ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ[34]

Walaqad fatanna sulaymana waalqayna AAala kursiyyihi jasadan thumma anaba

Et Nous avions certes éprouvé Salomon en plaçant sur son siège un corps. Ensuite, il se repentit.

And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):

قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِى وَهَبْ لِى مُلْكًا لَّا يَنۢبَغِى لِأَحَدٍ مِّنۢ بَعْدِىٓ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ[35]

Qala rabbi ighfir lee wahab lee mulkan la yanbaghee liahadin min baAAdee innaka anta alwahhabu

Il dit: «Seigneur, pardonne-moi et fais-moi don d'un royaume tel que nul après moi n'aura de pareil. C'est Toi le grand Dispensateur».

He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure).

فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِى بِأَمْرِهِۦ رُخَآءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ[36]

Fasakhkharna lahu alrreeha tajree biamrihi rukhaan haythu asaba

Nous lui assujettîmes alors le vent qui, par son ordre, soufflait modérément partout où il voulait.

Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,-

وَالشَّيَٰطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّآءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ[37]

Waalshshayateena kulla bannain waghawwasin

De même que les diables, bâtisseurs et plongeurs de toutes sortes.

As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver,-

وَءَاخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِى الْأَصْفَادِ[38]

Waakhareena muqarraneena fee alasfadi

Et d'autres encore, accouplés dans des chaînes.

As also others bound together in fetters.

هَٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ[39]

Hatha AAataona faomnun aw amsik bighayri hisabin

«Voilà Notre don; distribue-le ou retiens-le sans avoir à en rendre compte».

"Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."

وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ[40]

Wainna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maabin

Et il a une place rapprochée de Nous et un beau refuge.

And he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful Place of (Final) Return.

وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَآ أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ الشَّيْطَٰنُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ[41]

Waothkur AAabdana ayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alshshaytanu binusbin waAAathabin

Et rappelle-toi Job, Notre serviteur, lorsqu'il appela son Seigneur: «Le Diable m'a infligé détresse et souffrance».

Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"

ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ[42]

Orkud birijlika hatha mughtasalun baridun washarabun

Frappe [la terre] de ton pied: voici une eau fraîche pour te laver et voici de quoi boire.

(The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink."

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى الْأَلْبَٰبِ[43]

Wawahabna lahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan minna wathikra liolee alalbabi

Et Nous lui rendîmes sa famille et la fîmes deux fois plus nombreuse, comme une miséricorde de Notre part et comme un rappel pour les gens doués d'intelligence.

And We gave him (back) his people, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding.

وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَاضْرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَٰهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِّعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ[44]

Wakhuth biyadika dighthan faidrib bihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiran niAAma alAAabdu innahu awwabun

«Et prends dans ta main un faisceau de brindilles, puis frappe avec cela. Et ne viole pas ton serment». Oui, Nous l'avons trouvé vraiment endurant. Quel bon serviteur! Sans cesse il se repentait.

"And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!

وَاذْكُرْ عِبَٰدَنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْحَٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُو۟لِى الْأَيْدِى وَالْأَبْصَٰرِ[45]

Waothkur AAibadana ibraheema waishaqa wayaAAqooba olee alaydee waalabsari

Et rappelle-toi Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, Nos serviteurs puissants et clairvoyants.

And commemorate Our Servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.

إِنَّآ أَخْلَصْنَٰهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ[46]

Inna akhlasnahum bikhalisatin thikra alddari

Nous avons fait d'eux l'objet d'une distinction particulière: le rappel de l'au-delà.

Verily We did choose them for a special (purpose)- proclaiming the Message of the Hereafter.

وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الْأَخْيَارِ[47]

Wainnahum AAindana lamina almustafayna alakhyari

Ils sont auprès de Nous, certes, parmi les meilleurs élus.

They were, in Our sight, truly, of the company of the Elect and the Good.

وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ الْأَخْيَارِ[48]

Waothkur ismaAAeela wailyasaAAa watha alkifli wakullun mina alakhyari

Et rappelle-toi Ismaël et Elisée, et Dal Kifl, chacun d'eux parmi les meilleurs.

And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul-Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good.

هَٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ[49]

Hatha thikrun wainna lilmuttaqeena lahusna maabin

Cela est un rappel. C'est aux pieux qu'appartient, en vérité, la meilleure retraite,

This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, for the righteous, is a beautiful Place of (Final) Return,-

جَنَّٰتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ الْأَبْوَٰبُ[50]

Jannati AAadnin mufattahatan lahumu alabwabu

Les Jardins d'Eden, aux portes ouvertes pour eux,

Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ[51]

Muttakieena feeha yadAAoona feeha bifakihatin katheeratin washarabin

où, accoudés, ils demanderont des fruits abondants et des boissons.

Therein will they recline (at ease): Therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance, and (delicious) drink;

۞ وَعِندَهُمْ قَٰصِرَٰتُ الطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ[52]

WaAAindahum qasiratu alttarfi atrabun

Et auprès d'eux seront les belles au regard chaste, toutes du même âge.

And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ[53]

Hatha ma tooAAadoona liyawmi alhisabi

Voilà ce qui vous est promis pour le Jour des Comptes.

Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account!

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُۥ مِن نَّفَادٍ[54]

Inna hatha larizquna ma lahu min nafadin

Ce sera Notre attribution inépuisable.

Truly such will be Our Bounty (to you); it will never fail;-

هَٰذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّٰغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَـَٔابٍ[55]

Hatha wainna lilttagheena lasharra maabin

Voilà! Alors que les rebelles auront certes la pire retraite,

Yea, such! but - for the wrong-doers will be an evil place of (Final) Return!-

جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ[56]

Jahannama yaslawnaha fabisa almihadu

L'Enfer où ils brûleront. Et quel affreux lit!

Hell!- they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie on)!-

هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ[57]

Hatha falyathooqoohu hameemun waghassaqun

Voilà! Qu'ils y goûtent: eau bouillante et eau purulente,

Yea, such! - then shall they taste it,- a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky, intensely cold!-

وَءَاخَرُ مِن شَكْلِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجٌ[58]

Waakharu min shaklihi azwajun

et d'autres punitions du même genre.

And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match them!

هَٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُّقْتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمْ ۖ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا۟ النَّارِ[59]

Hatha fawjun muqtahimun maAAakum la marhaban bihim innahum saloo alnnari

Voici un groupe qui entre précipitamment en même temps que vous, nulle bienvenue à eux. Ils vont brûler dans le Feu.

Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly, they shall burn in the Fire!

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ أَنتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِكُمْ ۖ أَنتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ[60]

Qaloo bal antum la marhaban bikum antum qaddamtumoohu lana fabisa alqararu

Ils dirent: «Pas de bienvenue pour vous, plutôt. C'est vous qui avez préparé cela pour nous». Quel mauvais lieu de séjour!

(The followers shall cry to the misleaders:) "Nay, ye (too)! No welcome for you! It is ye who have brought this upon us! Now evil is (this) place to stay in!"

قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِى النَّارِ[61]

Qaloo rabbana man qaddama lana hatha fazidhu AAathaban diAAfan fee alnnari

Ils dirent: «Seigneur, celui qui nous a préparé cela, ajoute-lui un double châtiment dans le Feu».

They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us,- Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!"

وَقَالُوا۟ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ الْأَشْرَارِ[62]

Waqaloo ma lana la nara rijalan kunna naAAudduhum mina alashrari

Et ils dirent: «Pourquoi ne voyons-nous pas des gens que nous comptions parmi les malfaiteurs?

And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones?

أَتَّخَذْنَٰهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ الْأَبْصَٰرُ[63]

Attakhathnahum sikhriyyan am zaghat AAanhumu alabsaru

Est-ce que nous les avons raillés (à tort) ou échappent-ils à nos regards?»

"Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"

إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ[64]

Inna thalika lahaqqun takhasumu ahli alnnari

Telles sont en vérité les querelles des gens du Feu.

Truly that is just and fitting,- the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire!

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْوَٰحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ[65]

Qul innama ana munthirun wama min ilahin illa Allahu alwahidu alqahharu

Dis: «Je ne suis qu'un avertisseur. Point de divinité à part Allah, l'Unique, le Dominateur Suprême,

Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the one Allah, Supreme and Irresistible,-

رَبُّ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّٰرُ[66]

Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma alAAazeezu alghaffaru

Seigneur des cieux et de la terre et de ce qui existe entre eux, le Puissant, le Grand Pardonneur».

"The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- Exalted in Might, able to enforce His Will, forgiving again and again."

قُلْ هُوَ نَبَؤٌا۟ عَظِيمٌ[67]

Qul huwa nabaon AAatheemun

Dis: «Ceci (le Coran) est une grande nouvelle,

Say: "That is a Message Supreme (above all),-

أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ[68]

Antum AAanhu muAAridoona

mais vous vous en détournez.

"From which ye do turn away!

مَا كَانَ لِىَ مِنْ عِلْمٍۭ بِالْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰٓ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ[69]

Ma kana liya min AAilmin bialmalai alaAAla ith yakhtasimoona

Je n'avais aucune connaissance de la cohorte sublime au moment où elle disputait.

"No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.

إِن يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ إِلَّآ أَنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ[70]

In yooha ilayya illa annama ana natheerun mubeenun

Il m'est seulement révélé que je suis un avertisseur clair».

'Only this has been revealed to me: that I am to give warning plainly and publicly."

إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ[71]

Ith qala rabbuka lilmalaikati innee khaliqun basharan min teenin

Quand ton Seigneur dit aux Anges: «Je vais créer d'argile un être humain.

Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ[72]

Faitha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehi min roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideena

Quand Je l'aurai bien formé et lui aurai insufflé de Mon Esprit, jetez-vous devant lui, prosternés».

"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ[73]

Fasajada almalaikatu kulluhum ajmaAAoona

Alors tous les Anges se prosternèrent,

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَٰفِرِينَ[74]

Illa ibleesa istakbara wakana mina alkafireena

à l'exception d'Iblîs qui s'enfla d'orgueil et fut du nombre des infidèles.

Not so Iblis: he was haughty, and became one of those who reject Faith.

قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَىَّ ۖ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ[75]

Qala ya ibleesu ma manaAAaka an tasjuda lima khalaqtu biyadayya astakbarta am kunta mina alAAaleena

(Allah) lui dit: «O Iblîs, qui t'a empêché de te prosterner devant ce que J'ai créé de Mes mains? T'enfles-tu d'orgueil ou te considères-tu parmi les hauts placés?»

(Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"

قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ[76]

Qala ana khayrun minhu khalaqtanee min narin wakhalaqtahu min teenin

«Je suis meilleur que lui, dit [Iblîs,] Tu m'as créé de feu et tu l'as créé d'argile».

(Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay."

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ[77]

Qala faokhruj minha fainnaka rajeemun

(Allah) dit: «Sors d'ici, te voilà banni;

(Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ[78]

Wainna AAalayka laAAnatee ila yawmi alddeeni

et sur toi sera ma malédiction jusqu'au jour de la Rétribution».

"And My curse shall be on thee till the Day of Judgment."

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ[79]

Qala rabbi faanthirnee ila yawmi yubAAathoona

«Seigneur, dit [Iblîs], donne-moi donc un délai, jusqu'au jour où ils seront ressuscités».

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ[80]

Qala fainnaka mina almunthareena

(Allah) dit: «Tu es de ceux à qui un délai est accordé,

(Allah) said: "Respite then is granted thee-

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ[81]

Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloomi

jusqu'au jour de l'Instant bien Connu».

"Till the Day of the Time Appointed."

قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[82]

Qala fabiAAizzatika laoghwiyannahum ajmaAAeena

«Par Ta puissance! dit [Satan]. Je les séduirai assurément tous,

(Iblis) said: "Then, by Thy power, I will put them all in the wrong,-

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ[83]

Illa AAibadaka minhumu almukhlaseena

sauf Tes serviteurs élus parmi eux».

"Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ[84]

Qala faalhaqqu waalhaqqa aqoolu

(Allah) dit: «En vérité, et c'est la vérité que je dis,

(Allah) said: "Then it is just and fitting- and I say what is just and fitting-

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[85]

Laamlaanna jahannama minka wamimman tabiAAaka minhum ajmaAAeena

J'emplirai certainement l'Enfer de toi et de tous ceux d'entre eux qui te suivront».

"That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and those that follow thee,- every one."

قُلْ مَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ[86]

Qul ma asalukum AAalayhi min ajrin wama ana mina almutakallifeena

Dis: «Pour cela, je ne vous demande aucun salaire; et je ne suis pas un imposteur.

Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this (Qur'an), nor am I a pretender.

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَٰلَمِينَ[87]

In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameena

Ceci [le Coran] n'est qu'un rappel à l'univers.

"This is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds.

وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُۥ بَعْدَ حِينٍۭ[88]

WalataAAlamunna nabaahu baAAda heenin

Et certainement vous en aurez des nouvelles bientôt!»

"And ye shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while."
