بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ حمٓ[1]

Hameem

H'â, Mîm.

Ha-Mim.

وَالْكِتَٰبِ الْمُبِينِ[2]

Waalkitabi almubeeni

Par le Livre (le Coran) explicite.

By the Book that makes things clear;-

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ[3]

Inna anzalnahu fee laylatin mubarakatin inna kunna munthireena

Nous l'avons fait descendre en une nuit bénie, Nous sommes en vérité Celui qui avertit,

We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil).

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ[4]

Feeha yufraqu kullu amrin hakeemin

durant laquelle est décidé tout ordre sage,

In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom,

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ[5]

Amran min AAindina inna kunna mursileena

c'est là un commandement venant de Nous. C'est Nous qui envoyons [les Messagers],

By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations),

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ[6]

Rahmatan min rabbika innahu huwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

à titre de miséricorde de la part de ton Seigneur, car c'est Lui l'Audient, l'Omniscient,

As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things);

رَبِّ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ[7]

Rabbi alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma in kuntum mooqineena

Seigneur des cieux et de la terre et de ce qui est entre eux, si seulement vous pouviez en avoir la conviction.

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith.

لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ[8]

La ilaha illa huwa yuhyee wayumeetu rabbukum warabbu abaikumu alawwaleena

Point de divinité à part Lui. Il donne la vie et donne la mort, et Il est votre Seigneur et le Seigneur de vos premiers ancêtres.

There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors.

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ[9]

Bal hum fee shakkin yalAAaboona

Mais ces gens-là, dans le doute, s'amusent.

Yet they play about in doubt.

فَارْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى السَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ[10]

Fairtaqib yawma tatee alssamao bidukhanin mubeenin

Eh bien, attends le jour où le ciel apportera une fumée visible

Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible,

يَغْشَى النَّاسَ ۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ[11]

Yaghsha alnnasa hatha AAathabun aleemun

qui couvrira les gens. Ce sera un châtiment douloureux.

Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous.

رَّبَّنَا اكْشِفْ عَنَّا الْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ[12]

Rabbana ikshif AAanna alAAathaba inna muminoona

«Seigneur, éloigne de nous le châtiment. Car, [à présent] nous croyons».

(They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!"

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ الذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ[13]

Anna lahumu alththikra waqad jaahum rasoolun mubeenun

D'où leur vient cette prise de conscience alors qu'un Messager explicite leur est déjà venu,

How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,-

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ[14]

Thumma tawallaw AAanhu waqaloo muAAallamun majnoonun

Puis ils s'en détournèrent en disant: «C'est un homme instruit [par d'autres], un possédé».

Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!"

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ الْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ[15]

Inna kashifoo alAAathabi qaleelan innakum AAaidoona

Nous dissiperons le châtiment pour peu de temps; car vous récidiverez.

We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways).

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ الْبَطْشَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ[16]

Yawma nabtishu albatshata alkubra inna muntaqimoona

Le jour où Nous userons de la plus grande violence et Nous Nous vengerons.

One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution!

۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ[17]

Walaqad fatanna qablahum qawma firAAawna wajaahum rasoolun kareemun

Et avant eux Nous avons déjà éprouvé le peuple de Pharaon, quand un noble Messager leur était venu,

We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable,

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ[18]

An addoo ilayya AAibada Allahi innee lakum rasoolun ameenun

[leur disant]: «Livrez-moi les serviteurs d'Allah! Je suis pour vous un Messager digne de confiance.

Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust;

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى اللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ[19]

Waan la taAAloo AAala Allahi innee ateekum bisultanin mubeenin

Ne vous montrez pas hautains vis-à-vis d'Allah, car je vous apporte une preuve évidente.

"And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest.

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ[20]

Wainnee AAuthtu birabbee warabbikum an tarjumooni

Et je cherche protection auprès de mon Seigneur et votre Seigneur, pour que vous ne me lapidiez pas.

"For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me.

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَاعْتَزِلُونِ[21]

Wain lam tuminoo lee faiAAtazilooni

Si vous ne voulez pas croire en moi, éloignez-vous de moi».

"If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me."

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ[22]

FadaAAa rabbahu anna haolai qawmun mujrimoona

Il invoqua alors son Seigneur: «Ce sont des gens criminels».

(But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin."

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ[23]

Faasri biAAibadee laylan innakum muttabaAAoona

«Voyage de nuit avec Mes serviteurs; vous serez poursuivis.

(The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued.

وَاتْرُكِ الْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ[24]

Waotruki albahra rahwan innahum jundun mughraqoona

Laisse la mer calme; [telle que tu l'as franchie] ce sont, des armées [vouées] à la noyade».

"And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned."

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ[25]

Kam tarakoo min jannatin waAAuyoonin

Que de jardins et de sources ils laissèrent [derrière eux]

How many were the gardens and springs they left behind,

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ[26]

WazurooAAin wamaqamin kareemin

que de champs et de superbes résidences,

And corn-fields and noble buildings,

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ[27]

WanaAAmatin kanoo feeha fakiheena

que de délices au sein desquels ils se réjouissaient.

And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight!

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ[28]

Kathalika waawrathnaha qawman akhareena

Il en fut ainsi et Nous fîmes qu'un autre peuple en hérita.

Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)!

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَآءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ[29]

Fama bakat AAalayhimu alssamao waalardu wama kanoo munthareena

Ni le ciel ni la terre ne les pleurèrent et ils n'eurent aucun délai.

And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again).

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِينِ[30]

Walaqad najjayna banee israeela mina alAAathabi almuheeni

Et certes, Nous sauvâmes les Enfants d'Israël du châtiment avilissant

We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment,

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ[31]

Min firAAawna innahu kana AAaliyan mina almusrifeena

de Pharaon qui était hautain et outrancier.

Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors.

وَلَقَدِ اخْتَرْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى الْعَٰلَمِينَ[32]

Walaqadi ikhtarnahum AAala AAilmin AAala alAAalameena

A bon escient Nous les choisîmes parmi tous les peuples de l'univers,

And We chose them aforetime above the nations, knowingly,

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنَ الْءَايَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ[33]

Waataynahum mina alayati ma feehi balaon mubeenun

et leur apportâmes des miracles de quoi les mettre manifestement à l'épreuve.

And granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ[34]

Inna haolai layaqooloona

Ceux-là (les Mecquois) disent:

As to these (Quraish), they say forsooth:

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ[35]

In hiya illa mawtatuna aloola wama nahnu bimunshareena

«Il n'y a pour nous qu'une mort, la première. Et nous ne serons pas ressuscités.

"There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again.

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[36]

Fatoo biabaina in kuntum sadiqeena

Faites donc revenir nos ancêtres, si vous êtes véridiques».

"Then bring (back) our forefathers, if what ye say is true!"

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ[37]

Ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaAAin waallatheena min qablihim ahlaknahum innahum kanoo mujrimeena

Sont-ils les meilleurs ou le peuple de Tubba' et ceux qui les ont précédés? Nous les avons fait périr parce que vraiment ils étaient criminels.

What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ[38]

Wama khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma laAAibeena

Ce n'est pas par divertissement que Nous avons créé les cieux et la terre et ce qui est entre eux.

We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, merely in (idle) sport:

مَا خَلَقْنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[39]

Ma khalaqnahuma illa bialhaqqi walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

Nous ne les avons créés qu'en toute vérité. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne savent pas.

We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ[40]

Inna yawma alfasli meeqatuhum ajmaAAeena

En vérité, le Jour de la Décision sera leur rendez-vous à tous,

Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,-

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ[41]

Yawma la yughnee mawlan AAan mawlan shayan wala hum yunsaroona

le jour où un allié ne sera d'aucune utilité à un [autre] allié; et ils ne seront point secourus non plus,

The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive,

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ[42]

Illa man rahima Allahu innahu huwa alAAazeezu alrraheemu

sauf celui à qui Allah fera miséricorde. Car c'est Lui, le Puissant, le Très Miséricordieux.

Except such as receive Allah's Mercy: for He is Exalted in Might, Most Merciful.

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّومِ[43]

Inna shajarata alzzaqqoomi

Certes l'arbre de Zakkûm

Verily the tree of Zaqqum

طَعَامُ الْأَثِيمِ[44]

TaAAamu alatheemi

sera la nourriture du grand pécheur.

Will be the food of the Sinful,-

كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى الْبُطُونِ[45]

Kaalmuhli yaghlee fee albutooni

Comme du métal en fusion; il bouillonnera dans les ventres

Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides.

كَغَلْىِ الْحَمِيمِ[46]

Kaghalyi alhameemi

comme le bouillonnement de l'eau surchauffée.

Like the boiling of scalding water.

خُذُوهُ فَاعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ الْجَحِيمِ[47]

Khuthoohu faiAAtiloohu ila sawai aljaheemi

Qu'on le saisisse et qu'on l'emporte en plein dans la fournaise;

(A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire!

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْحَمِيمِ[48]

Thumma subboo fawqa rasihi min AAathabi alhameemi

qu'on verse ensuite sur sa tête de l'eau bouillante comme châtiment.

"Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْكَرِيمُ[49]

Thuq innaka anta alAAazeezu alkareemu

Goûte! Toi [qui prétendait être] le puissant, le noble.

"Taste thou (this)! Truly wast thou mighty, full of honour!

إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ[50]

Inna hatha ma kuntum bihi tamtaroona

Voilà ce dont vous doutiez.

"Truly this is what ye used to doubt!"

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ[51]

Inna almuttaqeena fee maqamin ameenin

Les pieux seront dans une demeure sûre,

As to the Righteous (they will be) in a position of Security,

فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ[52]

Fee jannatin waAAuyoonin

parmi des jardins et des sources,

Among Gardens and Springs;

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ[53]

Yalbasoona min sundusin waistabraqin mutaqabileena

Ils porteront des vêtements de satin et de brocart et seront placés face à face.

Dressed in fine silk and in rich brocade, they will face each other;

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ[54]

Kathalika wazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeenin

C'est ainsi! Et Nous leur donnerons pour épouses des houris aux grands yeux.

So; and We shall join them to fair women with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes.

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ[55]

YadAAoona feeha bikulli fakihatin amineena

Ils y demanderont en toute quiétude toutes sortes de fruits.

There can they call for every kind of fruit in peace and security;

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا الْمَوْتَ إِلَّا الْمَوْتَةَ الْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ[56]

La yathooqoona feeha almawta illa almawtata aloola wawaqahum AAathaba aljaheemi

Ils n'y goûteront pas à la mort sauf leur mort première. Et [Allah] les protègera du châtiment de la Fournaise,

Nor will they there taste Death, except the first death; and He will preserve them from the Penalty of the Blazing Fire,-

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ[57]

Fadlan min rabbika thalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu

c'est là une grâce de ton Seigneur. Et c'est là l'énorme succès.

As a Bounty from thy Lord! that will be the supreme achievement!

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ[58]

Fainnama yassarnahu bilisanika laAAallahum yatathakkaroona

Nous ne l'avons facilité dans ta langue, qu'afin qu'ils se rappellent!

Verily, We have made this (Qur'an) easy, in thy tongue, in order that they may give heed.

فَارْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ[59]

Fairtaqib innahum murtaqiboona

Attends donc. Eux aussi attendent.

So wait thou and watch; for they (too) are waiting.
