بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ قٓ ۚ وَالْقُرْءَانِ الْمَجِيدِ[1]

Qaf waalqurani almajeedi

Qâf. Par le Coran glorieux!

Qaf: By the Glorious Qur'an (Thou art Allah's Messenger).

بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ الْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ[2]

Bal AAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum faqala alkafiroona hatha shayon AAajeebun

Mais ils s'étonnent que l'un des leurs leur vint comme avertisseur; et les mécréants dirent: «Ceci est une chose étonnante.

But they wonder that there has come to them a Warner from among themselves. So the Unbelievers say: "This is a wonderful thing!

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ[3]

Aitha mitna wakunna turaban thalika rajAAun baAAeedun

Quoi! Quand nous serons morts et réduits en poussière...? Ce serait revenir de loin!»

"What! When we die and become dust, (shall we live again?) That is a (sort of) return far (from our understanding)."

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ الْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ[4]

Qad AAalimna ma tanqusu alardu minhum waAAindana kitabun hafeethun

Certes, Nous savons ce que la terre rongera d'eux [de leurs corps]; et Nous avons un Livre où tout est conservé.

We already know how much of them the earth takes away: With Us is a record guarding (the full account).

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ[5]

Bal kaththaboo bialhaqqi lamma jaahum fahum fee amrin mareejin

Plutôt, ils traitent de mensonge la vérité qui leur est venue: les voilà donc dans une situation confuse.

But they deny the Truth when it comes to them: so they are in a confused state.

أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى السَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ[6]

Afalam yanthuroo ila alssamai fawqahum kayfa banaynaha wazayyannaha wama laha min furoojin

N'ont-ils donc pas observé le ciel au-dessus d'eux, comment Nous l'avons bâti et embelli; et comment il est sans fissures?

Do they not look at the sky above them?- How We have made it and adorned it, and there are no flaws in it?

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ[7]

Waalarda madadnaha waalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin baheejin

Et la terre, Nous l'avons étendue et Nous y avons enfoncé fermement des montagnes et y avons fait pousser toutes sortes de magnifiques couples de [végétaux],

And the earth- We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and produced therein every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs)-

تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ[8]

Tabsiratan wathikra likulli AAabdin muneebin

à titre d'appel à la clairvoyance et un rappel pour tout serviteur repentant.

To be observed and commemorated by every devotee turning (to Allah).

وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍ وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ[9]

Wanazzalna mina alssamai maan mubarakan faanbatna bihi jannatin wahabba alhaseedi

Et Nous avons fait descendre du ciel une eau bénie, avec laquelle Nous avons fait pousser des jardins et le grain qu'on moissonne,

And We send down from the sky rain charted with blessing, and We produce therewith gardens and Grain for harvests;

وَالنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ[10]

Waalnnakhla basiqatin laha talAAun nadeedun

ainsi que les hauts palmiers aux régimes superposés,

And tall (and stately) palm-trees, with shoots of fruit-stalks, piled one over another;-

رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ الْخُرُوجُ[11]

Rizqan lilAAibadi waahyayna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika alkhurooju

comme subsistance pour les serviteurs. Et par elle (l'eau) Nous avons redonné la vie à une contrée morte. Ainsi se fera la résurrection.

As sustenance for (Allah's) Servants;- and We give (new) life therewith to land that is dead: Thus will be the Resurrection.

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَٰبُ الرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ[12]

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waashabu alrrassi wathamoodu

Avant eux, le peuple de Noé, les gens d'Ar-Rass et les Thamûd crièrent au mensonge,

Before them was denied (the Hereafter) by the People of Noah, the Companions of the Rass, the Thamud,

وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ[13]

WaAAadun wafirAAawnu waikhwanu lootin

de même que les 'Aad et Pharaon et les frères de Lot,

The 'Ad, Pharaoh, the brethren of Lut,

وَأَصْحَٰبُ الْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ[14]

Waashabu alaykati waqawmu tubbaAAin kullun kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa waAAeedi

et les gens d'Al-Aykah et le peuple de Tubba'. Tous traitèrent les Messagers de menteurs. C'est ainsi que Ma menace se justifia.

The Companions of the Wood, and the People of Tubba'; each one (of them) rejected the messengers, and My warning was duly fulfilled (in them).

أَفَعَيِينَا بِالْخَلْقِ الْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ[15]

AfaAAayeena bialkhalqi alawwali bal hum fee labsin min khalqin jadeedin

Quoi? Avons-Nous été fatigué par la première création? Mais ils sont dans la confusion [au sujet] d'une création nouvelle.

Were We then weary with the first Creation, that they should be in confused doubt about a new Creation?

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ[16]

Walaqad khalaqna alinsana wanaAAlamu ma tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi min habli alwareedi

Nous avons effectivement créé l'homme et Nous savons ce que son âme lui suggère et Nous sommes plus près de lui que sa veine jugulaire

It was We Who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ[17]

Ith yatalaqqa almutalaqqiyani AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali qaAAeedun

quand les deux recueillants, assis à droite et à gauche, recueillent.

Behold, two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and noted them), one sitting on the right and one on the left.

مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ[18]

Ma yalfithu min qawlin illa ladayhi raqeebun AAateedun

Il ne prononce pas une parole sans avoir auprès de lui un observateur prêt à l'inscrire.

Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it).

وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ[19]

Wajaat sakratu almawti bialhaqqi thalika ma kunta minhu taheedu

L'agonie de la mort fait apparaître la vérité: «Voilà ce dont tu t'écartais».

And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!"

وَنُفِخَ فِى الصُّورِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْوَعِيدِ[20]

Wanufikha fee alssoori thalika yawmu alwaAAeedi

Et l'on soufflera dans la Trompe: Voilà le jour de la Menace.

And the Trumpet shall be blown: that will be the Day whereof Warning (had been given).

وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ[21]

Wajaat kullu nafsin maAAaha saiqun washaheedun

Alors chaque âme viendra accompagnée d'un conducteur et d'un témoin.

And there will come forth every soul: with each will be an (angel) to drive, and an (angel) to bear witness.

لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ[22]

Laqad kunta fee ghaflatin min hatha fakashafna AAanka ghitaaka fabasaruka alyawma hadeedun

«Tu restais indifférent à cela. Et bien, Nous ôtons ton voile; ta vue est perçante aujourd'hui.

(It will be said:) "Thou wast heedless of this; now have We removed thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this Day!"

وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ[23]

Waqala qareenuhu hatha ma ladayya AAateedun

Et son compagnon dira: «Voilà ce qui est avec moi, tout prêt».

And his Companion will say: "Here is (his Record) ready with me!"

أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ[24]

Alqiya fee jahannama kulla kaffarin AAaneedin

«Vous deux, jetez dans l'Enfer tout mécréant endurci et rebelle,

(The sentence will be:) "Throw, throw into Hell every contumacious Rejecter (of Allah)!-

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ[25]

MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin mureebin

acharné à empêcher le bien, transgresseur, douteur,

"Who forbade what was good, transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions;

الَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى الْعَذَابِ الشَّدِيدِ[26]

Allathee jaAAala maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara faalqiyahu fee alAAathabi alshshadeedi

celui qui plaçait à côté d'Allah une autre divinité. Jetez-le donc dans le dur châtiment».

"Who set up another god beside Allah: Throw him into a severe penalty."

۞ قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ[27]

Qala qareenuhu rabbana ma atghaytuhu walakin kana fee dalalin baAAeedin

Son camarade (le Diable) dira: «Seigneur, ce n'est pas moi qui l'ai fait transgresser; mais il était déjà dans un profond égarement».

His Companion will say: "Our Lord! I did not make him transgress, but he was (himself) far astray."

قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِالْوَعِيدِ[28]

Qala la takhtasimoo ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bialwaAAeedi

Alors [Allah] dira:«Ne vous disputez pas devant moi! Alors que Je vous ai déjà fait part de la menace.

He will say: "Dispute not with each other in My Presence: I had already in advance sent you Warning.

مَا يُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ[29]

Ma yubaddalu alqawlu ladayya wama ana bithallamin lilAAabeedi

Chez Moi, la parole ne change pas; et Je n'opprime nullement les serviteurs».

"The Word changes not before Me, and I do not the least injustice to My Servants."

يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ امْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍ[30]

Yawma naqoolu lijahannama hali imtalati wataqoolu hal min mazeedin

Le jour où Nous dirons à l'Enfer; «Es-tu rempli?» Il dira: «Y en a-t-il encore?»

One Day We will ask Hell, "Art thou filled to the full?" It will say, "Are there any more (to come)?"

وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ[31]

Waozlifati aljannatu lilmuttaqeena ghayra baAAeedin

Le Paradis sera rapproché à proximité des pieux.

And the Garden will be brought nigh to the Righteous,- no more a thing distant.

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ[32]

Hatha ma tooAAadoona likulli awwabin hafeethin

«Voilà ce qui vous a été promis, [ainsi qu'] à tout homme plein de repentir et respectueux [des prescriptions divines]

(A voice will say:) "This is what was promised for you,- for every one who turned (to Allah) in sincere repentance, who kept (His Law),

مَّنْ خَشِىَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ[33]

Man khashiya alrrahmana bialghaybi wajaa biqalbin muneebin

qui redoute le Tout Miséricordieux bien qu'il ne Le voit pas, et qui vient [vers Lui] avec un cœur porté à l'obéissance.

"Who feared (Allah) Most Gracious Unseen, and brought a heart turned in devotion (to Him):

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُلُودِ[34]

Odkhulooha bisalamin thalika yawmu alkhuloodi

Entrez-y en toute sécurité,». Voilà le jour de l'éternité!

"Enter ye therein in Peace and Security; this is a Day of Eternal Life!"

لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ[35]

Lahum ma yashaoona feeha waladayna mazeedun

Il y aura là pour eux tout ce qu'ils voudront. Et auprès de Nous il y a davantage encore.

There will be for them therein all that they wish,- and more besides in Our Presence.

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى الْبِلَٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ[36]

Wakam ahlakna qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu minhum batshan fanaqqaboo fee albiladi hal min maheesin

combien avons-Nous fait périr, avant eux, de générations bien plus fortes qu'eux. Ils avaient parcouru les contrées, cherchant [vainement] où fuir.

But how many generations before them did We destroy (for their sins),- stronger in power than they? Then did they wander through the land: was there any place of escape (for them)?

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى السَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ[37]

Inna fee thalika lathikra liman kana lahu qalbun aw alqa alssamAAa wahuwa shaheedun

Il y a bien là un rappel pour quiconque a un cœur, prête l'oreille tout en étant témoin.

Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or who gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth).

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ[38]

Walaqad khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma fee sittati ayyamin wama massana min lughoobin

En effet Nous avons créé les cieux et la terre et ce qui existe entre eux en six jours, sans éprouver la moindre lassitude.

We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.

فَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ الْغُرُوبِ[39]

Faisbir AAala ma yaqooloona wasabbih bihamdi rabbika qabla tulooAAi alshshamsi waqabla alghuroobi

Endure donc ce qu'ils disent; et célèbre la louange de ton Seigneur avant le lever du soleil et avant [son] coucher;

Bear, then, with patience, all that they say, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting.

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَٰرَ السُّجُودِ[40]

Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waadbara alssujoodi

et célèbre Sa gloire, une partie de la nuit et à la suite des prosternations [prières].

And during part of the night, (also,) celebrate His praises, and (so likewise) after the postures of adoration.

وَاسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ الْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ[41]

WaistamiAA yawma yunadi almunadi min makanin qareebin

Et sois à l'écoute, le jour où le Crieur criera d'un endroit proche,

And listen for the Day when the Caller will call out from a place quiet near,-

يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ الصَّيْحَةَ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ الْخُرُوجِ[42]

Yawma yasmaAAoona alssayhata bialhaqqi thalika yawmu alkhurooji

le jour où ils entendront en toute vérité le Cri. Voilà le Jour de la Résurrection.

The Day when they will hear a (mighty) Blast in (very) truth: that will be the Day of Resurrection.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا الْمَصِيرُ[43]

Inna nahnu nuhyee wanumeetu wailayna almaseeru

C'est Nous qui donnons la vie et donnons la mort, et vers Nous sera la destination,

Verily it is We Who give Life and Death; and to Us is the Final Goal-

يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ الْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ[44]

Yawma tashaqqaqu alardu AAanhum siraAAan thalika hashrun AAalayna yaseerun

le jour où la terre se fendra, les [rejetant] précipitamment. Ce sera un rassemblement facile pour Nous.

The Day when the Earth will be rent asunder, from (men) hurrying out: that will be a gathering together,- quite easy for Us.

نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِالْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ[45]

Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloona wama anta AAalayhim bijabbarin fathakkir bialqurani man yakhafu waAAeedi

Nous savons mieux ce qu'ils disent. Tu n'as pas pour mission d'exercer sur eux une contrainte. Rappelle donc, par le Coran celui qui craint Ma menace.

We know best what they say; and thou art not one to overawe them by force. So admonish with the Qur'an such as fear My Warning!
