بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالطُّورِ[1]

Waalttoori

Par At-Tûr!

By the Mount (of Revelation);

وَكِتَٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ[2]

Wakitabin mastoorin

Et par un Livre écrit

By a Decree inscribed

فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ[3]

Fee raqqin manshoorin

sur un parchemin déployé!

In a Scroll unfolded;

وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ[4]

Waalbayti almaAAmoori

Et par la Maison peuplée!

By the much-frequented Fane;

وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ[5]

Waalssaqfi almarfooAAi

Et par la Voûte élevée!

By the Canopy Raised High;

وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ[6]

Waalbahri almasjoori

Et par la Mer portée à ébullition! (au Jour dernier)

And by the Ocean filled with Swell;-

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ[7]

Inna AAathaba rabbika lawaqiAAun

Le châtiment de ton Seigneur aura lieu inévitablement.

Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;-

مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ[8]

Ma lahu min dafiAAin

Nul ne pourra le repousser.

There is none can avert it;-

يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا[9]

Yawma tamooru alssamao mawran

Le jour où le ciel sera agité d'un tourbillonnement,

On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion.

وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا[10]

Wataseeru aljibalu sayran

et les montagnes se mettront en marche.

And the mountains will fly hither and thither.

فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ[11]

Fawaylun yawmaithin lilmukaththibeena

Ce jour-là, malheur à ceux qui traitent (les signes d'Allah) de mensonges,

Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;-

الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ[12]

Allatheena hum fee khawdin yalAAaboona

ceux qui s'ébattent dans des discours frivoles

That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles.

يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا[13]

Yawma yudaAAAAoona ila nari jahannama daAAAAan

le jour où ils seront brutalement poussés au feu de l'Enfer:

That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly.

هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ[14]

Hathihi alnnaru allatee kuntum biha tukaththiboona

Voilà le feu que vous traitiez de mensonge.

"This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny!

أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ[15]

Afasihrun hatha am antum la tubsiroona

Est-ce que cela est de la magie? Ou bien ne voyez-vous pas clair?

"Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see?

اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ[16]

Islawha faisbiroo aw la tasbiroo sawaon AAalaykum innama tujzawna ma kuntum taAAmaloona

Brûlez dedans! Supportez ou ne supportez pas, ce sera égal pour vous: vous n'êtes rétribués que selon ce que vous faisiez.

"Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds."

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ[17]

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatin wanaAAeemin

Les pieux seront dans des Jardins et dans des délices,

As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,-

فَٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ[18]

Fakiheena bima atahum rabbuhum wawaqahum rabbuhum AAathaba aljaheemi

se réjouissant de ce que leur Seigneur leur aura donné, et leur Seigneur les aura protégés du châtiment de la Fournaise.

Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire.

كُلُوا۟ وَاشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ[19]

Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima kuntum taAAmaloona

«En récompense de ce que vous faisiez, mangez et buvez en toute sérénité,

(To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds."

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ[20]

Muttakieena AAala sururin masfoofatin wazawwajnahum bihoorin AAeenin

accoudés sur des lits bien rangés», et Nous leur ferons épouser des houris aux grands yeux noirs,

They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.

وَالَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ[21]

Waallatheena amanoo waittabaAAathum thurriyyatuhum bieemanin alhaqna bihim thurriyyatahum wama alatnahum min AAamalihim min shayin kullu imriin bima kasaba raheenun

Ceux qui auront cru et que leurs descendants auront suivis dans la foi, Nous ferons que leurs descendants les rejoignent. Et Nous ne diminuerons en rien le mérite de leurs œuvres, chacun étant tenu responsable de ce qu'il aura acquis.

And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds.

وَأَمْدَدْنَٰهُم بِفَٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ[22]

Waamdadnahum bifakihatin walahmin mimma yashtahoona

Nous les pourvoirons abondamment des fruits et des viandes qu'ils désireront.

And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire.

يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ[23]

YatanazaAAoona feeha kasan la laghwun feeha wala tatheemun

Là, ils se passeront les uns les autres une coupe qui ne provoquera ni vanité ni incrimination.

They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill.

۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ[24]

Wayatoofu AAalayhim ghilmanun lahum kaannahum luluon maknoonun

Et parmi eux circuleront des garçons à leur service, pareils à des perles bien conservées.

Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded.

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ[25]

Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona

Et ils se tourneront les uns vers les autres s'interrogeant;

They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ[26]

Qaloo inna kunna qablu fee ahlina mushfiqeena

Ils diront: «Nous vivions au milieu des nôtres dans la crainte [d'Allah];

They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people.

فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ[27]

Famanna Allahu AAalayna wawaqana AAathaba alssamoomi

Puis Allah nous a favorisés et protégés du châtiment du Samûm.

"But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind.

إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ[28]

Inna kunna min qablu nadAAoohu innahu huwa albarru alrraheemu

Antérieurement, nous L'invoquions. C'est Lui certes, le Charitable, le Très Miséricordieux».

"Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!"

فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ[29]

Fathakkir fama anta biniAAmati rabbika bikahin wala majnoonin

Rappelle donc et par la grâce de ton Seigneur tu n'es ni un devin ni un possédé.

Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed.

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ[30]

Am yaqooloona shaAAirun natarabbasu bihi rayba almanooni

Ou bien ils disent: «C'est un poète! Attendons pour lui le coup de la mort».

Or do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!"

قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ[31]

Qul tarabbasoo fainnee maAAakum mina almutarabbiseena

Dis: «Attendez! Je suis avec vous parmi ceux qui attendent».

Say thou: "Await ye!- I too will wait along with you!"

أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَٰمُهُم بِهَٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ[32]

Am tamuruhum ahlamuhum bihatha am hum qawmun taghoona

Est-ce leur raison qui leur commande cela? Ou sont-ils des gens outranciers?

Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds?

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ[33]

Am yaqooloona taqawwalahu bal la yuminoona

Ou bien ils disent: «Il l'a inventé lui-même?» Non... mais ils ne croient pas.

Or do they say, "He fabricated the (Message)"? Nay, they have no faith!

فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَٰدِقِينَ[34]

Falyatoo bihadeethin mithlihi in kanoo sadiqeena

Eh bien, qu'ils produisent un récit pareil à lui (le Coran), s'ils sont véridiques.

Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth!

أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَٰلِقُونَ[35]

Am khuliqoo min ghayri shayin am humu alkhaliqoona

Ont-ils été créé à partir de rien ou sont-ils eux les créateurs?

Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators?

أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ السَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ[36]

Am khalaqoo alssamawati waalarda bal la yooqinoona

Ou ont-ils créé les cieux et la terre? Mais ils n'ont plutôt aucune conviction.

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief.

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ[37]

Am AAindahum khazainu rabbika am humu almusaytiroona

Possèdent-ils les trésors de ton Seigneur? Ou sont-ils eux les maîtres souverains?

Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)?

أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ[38]

Am lahum sullamun yastamiAAoona feehi falyati mustamiAAuhum bisultanin mubeenin

Ont-ils une échelle d'où ils écoutent? Que celui des leurs qui reste à l'écoute apporte une preuve évidente!

Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof.

أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَٰتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ[39]

Am lahu albanatu walakumu albanoona

[Allah] aurait-Il les filles, tandis que vous, les fils?

Or has He only daughters and ye have sons?

أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ[40]

Am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqaloona

Ou leur demandes-tu un salaire, de sorte qu'ils soient grevés d'une lourde dette?

Or is it that thou dost ask for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-

أَمْ عِندَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ[41]

Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboona

Ou bien détiennent-ils l'Inconnaissable pour le mentionner par écrit?

Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down?

أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ الْمَكِيدُونَ[42]

Am yureedoona kaydan faallatheena kafaroo humu almakeedoona

Ou cherchent-ils un stratagème? Mais ce sont ceux qui ont mécru qui sont victimes de leur propre stratagème.

Or do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves involved in a Plot!

أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ[43]

Am lahum ilahun ghayru Allahi subhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoona

Ou ont-ils une autre divinité à part Allah? Qu'Allah soit glorifié et purifié de tout ce qu'ils associent!

Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him!

وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ السَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ[44]

Wain yaraw kisfan mina alssamai saqitan yaqooloo sahabun markoomun

Et s'ils voient tomber des fragments du ciel, ils disent: «Ce sont des nuages superposés».

Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!"

فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ[45]

Fatharhum hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee feehi yusAAaqoona

Laisse-les donc, jusqu'à ce qu'ils rencontrent leur jour où ils seront foudroyés,

So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),-

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ[46]

Yawma la yughnee AAanhum kayduhum shayan wala hum yunsaroona

le jour où leur ruse ne leur servira à rien, où ils ne seront pas secourus.

The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them.

وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ[47]

Wainna lillatheena thalamoo AAathaban doona thalika walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

Les injustes auront un châtiment préalable. Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne savent pas.

And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment besides this: But most of them understand not.

وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ[48]

Waisbir lihukmi rabbika fainnaka biaAAyunina wasabbih bihamdi rabbika heena taqoomu

Et supporte patiemment la décision de ton Seigneur. Car en vérité, tu es sous Nos yeux. Et célèbre la gloire de ton Seigneur quand tu te lèves;

Now await in patience the command of thy Lord: for verily thou art in Our eyes: and celebrate the praises of thy Lord the while thou standest forth,

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَٰرَ النُّجُومِ[49]

Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waidbara alnnujoomi

Glorifie-Le une partie de la nuit et au déclin des étoiles.

And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars!
