بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ[1]
Itha waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu
Quand l'événement (le Jugement) arrivera,
When the Event inevitable cometh to pass,
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ[2]
Laysa liwaqAAatiha kathibatun
nul ne traitera sa venue de mensonge.
Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ[3]
Khafidatun rafiAAatun
Il abaissera (les uns), il élèvera (les autres).
(Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt;
إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا[4]
Itha rujjati alardu rajjan
Quand la terre sera secouée violemment,
When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا[5]
Wabussati aljibalu bassan
et les montagnes seront réduites en miettes,
And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا[6]
Fakanat habaan munbaththan
et qu'elles deviendront poussière éparpillée
Becoming dust scattered abroad,
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَٰثَةً[7]
Wakuntum azwajan thalathatan
alors vous serez trois catégories:
And ye shall be sorted out into three classes.
فَأَصْحَٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ[8]
Faashabu almaymanati ma ashabu almaymanati
les gens de la droite - que sont les gens de la droite?
Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
وَأَصْحَٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ[9]
Waashabu almashamati ma ashabu almashamati
Et les gens de la gauche - que sont les gens de la gauche?
And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
وَالسَّٰبِقُونَ السَّٰبِقُونَ[10]
Waalssabiqoona alssabiqoona
Les premiers (à suivre les ordres d'Allah sur la terre) ce sont eux qui seront les premiers (dans l'au-delà)
And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ[11]
Olaika almuqarraboona
Ce sont ceux-là les plus rapprochés d'Allah
These will be those Nearest to Allah:
فِى جَنَّٰتِ النَّعِيمِ[12]
Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi
dans les Jardins des délices,
In Gardens of Bliss:
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ[13]
Thullatun mina alawwaleena
une multitude d'élus parmi les premières [générations],
A number of people from those of old,
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْءَاخِرِينَ[14]
Waqaleelun mina alakhireena
et un petit nombre parmi les dernières [générations],
And a few from those of later times.
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ[15]
AAala sururin mawdoonatin
sur des lits ornés [d'or et de pierreries],
(They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones),
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ[16]
Muttakieena AAalayha mutaqabileena
s'y accoudant et se faisant face.
Reclining on them, facing each other.
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ[17]
Yatoofu AAalayhim wildanun mukhalladoona
Parmi eux circuleront des garçons éternellement jeunes,
Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness),
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ[18]
Biakwabin waabareeqa wakasin min maAAeenin
avec des coupes, des aiguières et un verre [rempli] d'une liqueur de source
With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ[19]
La yusaddaAAoona AAanha wala yunzifoona
qui ne leur provoquera ni maux de tête ni étourdissement;
No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:
وَفَٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ[20]
Wafakihatin mimma yatakhayyaroona
et des fruits de leur choix,
And with fruits, any that they may select:
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ[21]
Walahmi tayrin mimma yashtahoona
et toute chair d'oiseau qu'ils désireront.
And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ[22]
Wahoorun AAeenun
Et ils auront des houris aux yeux, grands et beaux,
And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-
كَأَمْثَٰلِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ[23]
Kaamthali allului almaknooni
pareilles à des perles en coquille
Like unto Pearls well-guarded.
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ[24]
Jazaan bima kanoo yaAAmaloona
en récompense pour ce qu'ils faisaient.
A Reward for the deeds of their past (life).
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا[25]
La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala tatheeman
Ils n'y entendront ni futilité ni blasphème;
Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,-
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَٰمًا سَلَٰمًا[26]
Illa qeelan salaman salaman
mais seulement les propos: «Salâm! Salâm!»... [Paix! Paix!]
Only the saying, "Peace! Peace".
وَأَصْحَٰبُ الْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ الْيَمِينِ[27]
Waashabu alyameeni ma ashabu alyameeni
Et les gens de la droite; que sont les gens de la droite?
The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ[28]
Fee sidrin makhdoodin
[Ils seront parmi] des jujubiers sans épines,
(They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ[29]
Watalhin mandoodin
et parmi des bananiers aux régimes bien fournis,
Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ[30]
Wathillin mamdoodin
dans une ombre étendue
In shade long-extended,
وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ[31]
Wamain maskoobin
[près] d'une eau coulant continuellement,
By water flowing constantly,
وَفَٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ[32]
Wafakihatin katheeratin
et des fruits abondants
And fruit in abundance.
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ[33]
La maqtooAAatin wala mamnooAAatin
ni interrompus ni défendus,
Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ[34]
Wafurushin marfooAAatin
sur des lits surélevés,
And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high.
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً[35]
Inna anshanahunna inshaan
C'est Nous qui les avons créées à la perfection,
We have created (their Companions) of special creation.
فَجَعَلْنَٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا[36]
FajaAAalnahunna abkaran
et Nous les avons faites vierges,
And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا[37]
AAuruban atraban
gracieuses, toutes de même âge,
Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-
لِّأَصْحَٰبِ الْيَمِينِ[38]
Liashabi alyameeni
pour les gens de la droite,
For the Companions of the Right Hand.
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ[39]
Thullatun mina alawwaleena
une multitude d'élus parmi les premières [générations],
A (goodly) number from those of old,
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْءَاخِرِينَ[40]
Wathullatun mina alakhireena
et une multitude d'élus parmi les dernières [générations].
And a (goodly) number from those of later times.
وَأَصْحَٰبُ الشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَٰبُ الشِّمَالِ[41]
Waashabu alshshimali ma ashabu alshshimali
Et les gens de la gauche; que sont les gens de la gauche?
The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ[42]
Fee samoomin wahameemin
ils seront au milieu d'un souffle brûlant et d'une eau bouillante,
(They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water,
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ[43]
Wathillin min yahmoomin
à l'ombre d'une fumée noire
And in the shades of Black Smoke:
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ[44]
La baridin wala kareemin
ni fraîche, ni douce.
Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ[45]
Innahum kanoo qabla thalika mutrafeena
Ils vivaient auparavant dans le luxe.
For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury),
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ[46]
Wakanoo yusirroona AAala alhinthi alAAatheemi
Ils persistaient dans le grand péché [le polythéisme]
And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ[47]
Wakanoo yaqooloona aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona
et disaient: «Quand nous mourrons et serons poussière et ossements, serons-nous ressuscités?
And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ[48]
Awa abaona alawwaloona
ainsi que nos anciens ancêtres?..»
"(We) and our fathers of old?"
قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْءَاخِرِينَ[49]
Qul inna alawwaleena waalakhireena
Dis: «En vérité les premiers et les derniers
Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ[50]
LamajmooAAoona ila meeqati yawmin maAAloomin
seront réunis pour le rendez-vous d'un jour connu».
"All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّآلُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ[51]
Thumma innakum ayyuha alddalloona almukaththiboona
Et puis, vous, les égarés, qui traitiez (la Résurrection) de mensonge,
"Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!-
لَءَاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ[52]
Laakiloona min shajarin min zaqqoomin
vous mangerez certainement d'un arbre de Zaqqûm.
"Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ[53]
Famalioona minha albutoona
vous vous en remplirez le ventre,
"Then will ye fill your insides therewith,
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ[54]
Fashariboona AAalayhi mina alhameemi
puis vous boirez par-dessus cela de l'eau bouillante,
"And drink Boiling Water on top of it:
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ[55]
Fashariboona shurba alheemi
vous en boirez comme boivent les chameaux assoiffés.
"Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ[56]
Hatha nuzuluhum yawma alddeeni
Voilà le repas d'accueil qui leur sera servi, au jour de la Rétribution.
Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ[57]
Nahnu khalaqnakum falawla tusaddiqoona
C'est Nous qui vous avons créés. Pourquoi ne croiriez-vous donc pas [à la résurrection]?
It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ[58]
Afaraaytum ma tumnoona
Voyez-vous donc ce que vous éjaculez:
Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,-
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَٰلِقُونَ[59]
Aantum takhluqoonahu am nahnu alkhaliqoona
est-ce vous qui le créez ou [en] sommes Nous le Créateur?
Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators?
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ[60]
Nahnu qaddarna baynakumu almawta wama nahnu bimasbooqeena
Nous avons prédéterminé la mort parmi vous. Nous ne serons point empêchés
We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ[61]
AAala an nubaddila amthalakum wanunshiakum fee ma la taAAlamoona
de vous remplacer par vos semblables, et vous faire renaître dans [un état] que vous ne savez pas.
from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not.
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ[62]
Walaqad AAalimtumu alnnashata aloola falawla tathakkaroona
Vous avez connu la première création. Ne vous rappelez-vous donc pas?
And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ[63]
Afaraaytum ma tahruthoona
Voyez-vous donc ce que vous labourez?
See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّٰرِعُونَ[64]
Aantum tazraAAoonahu am nahnu alzzariAAoona
Est-ce vous qui le cultivez? ou [en] sommes Nous le cultivateur?
Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause?
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَٰهُ حُطَٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ[65]
Law nashao lajaAAalnahu hutaman fathaltum tafakkahoona
Si Nous voulions, Nous le réduirions en débris. Et vous ne cesseriez pas de vous étonner et [de crier]:
Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment,
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ[66]
Inna lamughramoona
«Nous voilà endettés!
(Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ[67]
Bal nahnu mahroomoona
ou plutôt, exposés aux privations».
"Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)"
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ الْمَآءَ الَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ[68]
Afaraaytumu almaa allathee tashraboona
Voyez-vous donc l'eau que vous buvez?
See ye the water which ye drink?
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ[69]
Aantum anzaltumoohu mina almuzni am nahnu almunziloona
Est-ce vous qui l'avez fait descendre du nuage? ou [en] sommes Nous le descendeur?
Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ[70]
Law nashao jaAAalnahu ojajan falawla tashkuroona
Si Nous voulions, Nous la rendrions salée. Pourquoi n'êtes-vous donc pas reconnaissants?
Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِى تُورُونَ[71]
Afaraaytumu alnnara allatee tooroona
Voyez-vous donc le feu que vous obtenez par frottement?
See ye the Fire which ye kindle?
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِـُٔونَ[72]
Aantum anshatum shajarataha am nahnu almunshioona
Est-ce vous qui avez créé son arbre ou [en] sommes Nous le Créateur?
Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ[73]
Nahnu jaAAalnaha tathkiratan wamataAAan lilmuqweena
Nous en avons fait un rappel (de l'Enfer), et un élément utile pour ceux qui en ont besoin.
We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.
فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ[74]
Fasabbih biismi rabbika alAAatheemi
Glorifie donc le nom de ton Seigneur, le Très Grand!
Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme!
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ النُّجُومِ[75]
Fala oqsimu bimawaqiAAi alnnujoomi
Non!.. Je jure par les positions des étoiles (dans le firmament).
Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,-
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ[76]
Wainnahu laqasamun law taAAlamoona AAatheemun
Et c'est vraiment un serment solennel, si vous saviez.
And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,-
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ[77]
Innahu laquranun kareemun
Et c'est certainement un Coran noble,
That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable,
فِى كِتَٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ[78]
Fee kitabin maknoonin
dans un Livre bien gardé
In Book well-guarded,
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ[79]
La yamassuhu illa almutahharoona
que seuls les purifiés touchent;
Which none shall touch but those who are clean:
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَٰلَمِينَ[80]
Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameena
C'est une révélation de la part du Seigneur de l'Univers.
A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
أَفَبِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ[81]
Afabihatha alhadeethi antum mudhinoona
Est-ce ce discours-là que vous traitez de mensonge?
Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ[82]
WatajAAaloona rizqakum annakum tukaththiboona
Et est-ce pour vous [une façon d'être reconnaissant] à votre subsistance que de traiter (le Coran) de mensonge?
And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ[83]
Falawla itha balaghati alhulqooma
Lorsque le souffle de la vie remonte à la gorge (d'un moribond),
Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,-
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ[84]
Waantum heenaithin tanthuroona
et qu'à ce moment là vous regardez,
And ye the while (sit) looking on,-
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ[85]
Wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakin la tubsiroona
et que Nous sommes plus proche de lui que vous [qui l'entourez] mais vous ne [le] voyez point.
But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,-
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ[86]
Falawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneena
Pourquoi donc, si vous croyez que vous n'avez pas de compte à rendre,
Then why do ye not,- If you are exempt from (future) account,-
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[87]
TarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeena
ne la faites-vous pas revenir [cette âme], si vous êtes véridiques?
Call back the soul, if ye are true (in the claim of independence)?
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ[88]
Faamma in kana mina almuqarrabeena
Si celui-ci est du nombre des rapprochés (d'Allah),
Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ[89]
Farawhun warayhanun wajannatu naAAeemin
alors (il aura) du repos, de la grâce et un Jardin de délices.
(There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ الْيَمِينِ[90]
Waamma in kana min ashabi alyameeni
Et s'il est du nombre des gens de la droite,
And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand,
فَسَلَٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَٰبِ الْيَمِينِ[91]
Fasalamun laka min ashabi alyameeni
il sera [accueilli par ces mots]: «Paix à toi» de la part des gens de la droite.
(For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّآلِّينَ[92]
Waamma in kana mina almukaththibeena alddalleena
Et s'il est de ceux qui avaient traité de mensonge (la résurrection) et s'étaient égarés,
And if he be of those who treat (Truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong,
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ[93]
Fanuzulun min hameemin
alors, il sera installé dans une eau bouillante,
For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water.
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ[94]
Watasliyatu jaheemin
et il brûlera dans la Fournaise.
And burning in Hell-Fire.
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ[95]
Inna hatha lahuwa haqqu alyaqeeni
C'est cela la pleine certitude.
Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainly.
فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ[96]
Fasabbih biismi rabbika alAAatheemi
Glorifie donc le nom de ton Seigneur, le Très Grand!
So celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme.
