بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ تَبَٰرَكَ الَّذِى بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ[1]

Tabaraka allathee biyadihi almulku wahuwa AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

Béni soit celui dans la main de qui est la royauté, et Il est Omnipotent.

Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power;-

الَّذِى خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ[2]

Allathee khalaqa almawta waalhayata liyabluwakum ayyukum ahsanu AAamalan wahuwa alAAazeezu alghafooru

Celui qui a créé la mort et la vie afin de vous éprouver (et de savoir) qui de vous est le meilleur en œuvre, et c'est Lui le Puissant, le Pardonneur.

He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;-

الَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مِن تَفَٰوُتٍ ۖ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ[3]

Allathee khalaqa sabAAa samawatin tibaqan ma tara fee khalqi alrrahmani min tafawutin fairjiAAi albasara hal tara min futoorin

Celui qui a créé sept cieux superposés sans que tu voies de disproportion en la création du Tout Miséricordieux. Ramène [sur elle] le regard. Y vois-tu une brèche quelconque?

He Who created the seven heavens one above another: No want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (Allah) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: seest thou any flaw?

ثُمَّ ارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ[4]

Thumma irjiAAi albasara karratayni yanqalib ilayka albasaru khasian wahuwa haseerun

Puis, retourne ton regard à deux fois: le regard te reviendra humilié et frustré.

Again turn thy vision a second time: (thy) vision will come back to thee dull and discomfited, in a state worn out.

وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَآءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَٰهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَٰطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ[5]

Walaqad zayyanna alssamaa alddunya bimasabeeha wajaAAalnaha rujooman lilshshayateeni waaAAtadna lahum AAathaba alssaAAeeri

Nous avons effectivement embelli le ciel le plus proche avec des lampes [des étoiles] dont Nous avons fait des projectiles pour lapider les diables et Nous leur avons préparé le châtiment de la Fournaise.

And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ[6]

Walillatheena kafaroo birabbihim AAathabu jahannama wabisa almaseeru

Ceux qui ont mécru à leur Seigneur auront le châtiment de l'Enfer. Et quelle mauvaise destination!

For those who reject their Lord (and Cherisher) is the Penalty of Hell: and evil is (such), Destination.

إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ[7]

Itha olqoo feeha samiAAoo laha shaheeqan wahiya tafooru

Quand ils y seront jetés, ils lui entendront un gémissement, tandis qu'il bouillonne.

When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth,

تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَآ أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ[8]

Takadu tamayyazu mina alghaythi kullama olqiya feeha fawjun saalahum khazanatuha alam yatikum natheerun

Peu s'en faut que, de rage, il n'éclate. Toutes les fois qu'un groupe y est jeté, ses gardiens leur demandent: «Quoi! ne vous est-il pas venu d'avertisseur?»

Almost bursting with fury: Every time a Group is cast therein, its Keepers will ask, "Did no Warner come to you?"

قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍ كَبِيرٍ[9]

Qaloo bala qad jaana natheerun fakaththabna waqulna ma nazzala Allahu min shayin in antum illa fee dalalin kabeerin

Ils dirent: «Mais si! un avertisseur nous était venu certes, mais nous avons crié au mensonge et avons dit: Allah n'a rien fait descendre: vous n'êtes que dans un grand égarement».

They will say: "Yes indeed; a Warner did come to us, but we rejected him and said, 'Allah never sent down any (Message): ye are nothing but an egregious delusion!'"

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِىٓ أَصْحَٰبِ السَّعِيرِ[10]

Waqaloo law kunna nasmaAAu aw naAAqilu ma kunna fee ashabi alssaAAeeri

Et ils dirent: «Si nous avions écouté ou raisonné, nous ne serions pas parmi les gens de la Fournaise».

They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!"

فَاعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّأَصْحَٰبِ السَّعِيرِ[11]

FaiAAtarafoo bithanbihim fasuhqan liashabi alssaAAeeri

Ils ont reconnu leur péché. Que les gens de la Fournaise soient anéantis à jamais.

They will then confess their sins: but far will be (Forgiveness) from the Companions of the Blazing Fire!

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ[12]

Inna allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum bialghaybi lahum maghfiratun waajrun kabeerun

Ceux qui redoutent leur Seigneur bien qu'ils ne L'aient jamais vu auront un pardon et une grande récompense.

As for those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward.

وَأَسِرُّوا۟ قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ[13]

Waasirroo qawlakum awi ijharoo bihi innahu AAaleemun bithati alssudoori

Que vous cachiez votre parole ou la divulguiez Il connaît bien le contenu des poitrines.

And whether ye hide your word or publish it, He certainly has (full) knowledge, of the secrets of (all) hearts.

أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ[14]

Ala yaAAlamu man khalaqa wahuwa allateefu alkhabeeru

Ne connaît-Il pas ce qu'Il a créé alors que c'est Lui le Compatissant, le Parfaitement Connaisseur.

Should He not know,- He that created? and He is the One that understands the finest mysteries (and) is well-acquainted (with them).

هُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَامْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ[15]

Huwa allathee jaAAala lakumu alarda thaloolan faimshoo fee manakibiha wakuloo min rizqihi wailayhi alnnushooru

C'est Lui qui vous a soumis la terre: parcourez donc ses grandes étendues. Mangez de ce qu'Il vous fournit. Vers Lui est la Résurrection.

It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you, so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the Sustenance which He furnishes: but unto Him is the Resurrection.

ءَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِى السَّمَآءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَمُورُ[16]

Aamintum man fee alssamai an yakhsifa bikumu alarda faitha hiya tamooru

Etes-vous à l'abri que Celui qui est au ciel vous enfouisse en la terre? Et voici qu'elle tremble!

Do ye feel secure that He Who is in heaven will not cause you to be swallowed up by the earth when it shakes (as in an earthquake)?

أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِى السَّمَآءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ[17]

Am amintum man fee alssamai an yursila AAalaykum hasiban fasataAAlamoona kayfa natheeri

Ou êtes-vous à l'abri que Celui qui est au ciel envoie contre vous un ouragan de pierres? Vous saurez ainsi quel fut Mon avertissement.

Or do ye feel secure that He Who is in Heaven will not send against you a violent tornado (with showers of stones), so that ye shall know how (terrible) was My warning?

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ[18]

Walaqad kaththaba allatheena min qablihim fakayfa kana nakeeri

En effet, ceux d'avant eux avaient crié au mensonge. Quelle fut alors Ma réprobation!

But indeed men before them rejected (My warning): then how (terrible) was My rejection (of them)?

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَٰٓفَّٰتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحْمَٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۭ بَصِيرٌ[19]

Awalam yaraw ila alttayri fawqahum saffatin wayaqbidna ma yumsikuhunna illa alrrahmanu innahu bikulli shayin baseerun

N'ont-ils pas vu les oiseaux au-dessus d'eux, déployant et repliant leurs ailes tour à tour? Seul le Tout Miséricordieux les soutient. Car Il est sur toute chose, Clairvoyant.

Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly it is He that watches over all things.

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِى هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الْكَٰفِرُونَ إِلَّا فِى غُرُورٍ[20]

Amman hatha allathee huwa jundun lakum yansurukum min dooni alrrahmani ini alkafiroona illa fee ghuroorin

Quel est celui qui constituerait pour vous une armée [capable] de vous secourir, en dehors du Tout Miséricordieux? En vérité les mécréants sont dans l'illusion complète.

Nay, who is there that can help you, (even as) an army, besides (Allah) Most Merciful? In nothing but delusion are the Unbelievers.

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ[21]

Amman hatha allathee yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqahu bal lajjoo fee AAutuwwin wanufoorin

Ou quel est celui qui vous donnera votre subsistance s'Il s'arrête de fournir Son attribution? Mais ils persistent dans leur insolence et dans leur répulsion.

Or who is there that can provide you with Sustenance if He were to withhold His provision? Nay, they obstinately persist in insolent impiety and flight (from the Truth).

أَفَمَن يَمْشِى مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦٓ أَهْدَىٰٓ أَمَّن يَمْشِى سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ[22]

Afaman yamshee mukibban AAala wajhihi ahda amman yamshee sawiyyan AAala siratin mustaqeemin

Qui est donc mieux guidé? Celui qui marche face contre terre ou celui qui marche redressé sur un chemin droit.

Is then one who walks headlong, with his face grovelling, better guided,- or one who walks evenly on a Straight Way?

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَٰرَ وَالْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ[23]

Qul huwa allathee anshaakum wajaAAala lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

Dis: «C'est Lui qui vous a créés et vous a donné l'ouïe, les yeux et les cœurs». Mais vous êtes rarement reconnaissants!

Say: "It is He Who has created you (and made you grow), and made for you the faculties of hearing, seeing, feeling and understanding: little thanks it is ye give.

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ[24]

Qul huwa allathee tharaakum fee alardi wailayhi tuhsharoona

Dis: «C'est Lui qui vous a répandus sur la terre, et c'est vers Lui que vous serez rassemblés».

Say: "It is He Who has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him shall ye be gathered together."

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ[25]

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena

Et ils disent: «A quand cette promesse si vous êtes véridiques?»

They ask: When will this promise be (fulfilled)? - If ye are telling the truth.

قُلْ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ[26]

Qul innama alAAilmu AAinda Allahi wainnama ana natheerun mubeenun

Dis: «Allah seul [en] a la connaissance. Et moi je ne suis qu'un avertisseur clair».

Say: "As to the knowledge of the time, it is with Allah alone: I am (sent) only to warn plainly in public."

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا الَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ[27]

Falamma raawhu zulfatan seeat wujoohu allatheena kafaroo waqeela hatha allathee kuntum bihi taddaAAoona

Puis, quand ils verront (le châtiment) de près, les visages de ceux qui ont mécru seront affligés. Et il leur sera dit: «Voilà ce que vous réclamiez».

At length, when they see it close at hand, grieved will be the faces of the Unbelievers, and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise fulfilled), which ye were calling for!"

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِىَ اللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِىَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ الْكَٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ[28]

Qul araaytum in ahlakaniya Allahu waman maAAiya aw rahimana faman yujeeru alkafireena min AAathabin aleemin

Dis: «Que vous en semble? Qu'Allah me fasse périr ainsi que ceux qui sont avec moi ou qu'Il nous fasse miséricorde, qui protégera alors les mécréants d'un châtiment douloureux?»

Say: "See ye?- If Allah were to destroy me, and those with me, or if He bestows His Mercy on us,- yet who can deliver the Unbelievers from a grievous Penalty?"

قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ[29]

Qul huwa alrrahmanu amanna bihi waAAalayhi tawakkalna fasataAAlamoona man huwa fee dalalin mubeenin

Dis: «C'est Lui, le Tout Miséricordieux. Nous croyons en Lui et c'est en Lui que nous plaçons notre confiance. Vous saurez bientôt qui est dans un égarement évident».

Say: "He is (Allah) Most Gracious: We have believed in Him, and on Him have we put our trust: So, soon will ye know which (of us) it is that is in manifest error."

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَآءٍ مَّعِينٍۭ[30]

Qul araaytum in asbaha maokum ghawran faman yateekum bimain maAAeenin

Dis: «Que vous en semble? Si votre eau était absorbée au plus profond de la terre, qui donc vous apporterait de l'eau de source?»

Say: "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?"
