بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ[1]

Inna arsalna noohan ila qawmihi an anthir qawmaka min qabli an yatiyahum AAathabun aleemun

Nous avons envoyé Noé vers son peuple: «Avertis ton peuple, avant que leur vienne un châtiment douloureux».

We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): "Do thou warn thy People before there comes to them a grievous Penalty."

قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ[2]

Qala ya qawmi innee lakum natheerun mubeenun

Il [leur] dit: «O mon peuple, je suis vraiment pour vous, un avertisseur clair,

He said: "O my People! I am to you a Warner, clear and open:

أَنِ اعْبُدُوا۟ اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ[3]

Ani oAAbudoo Allaha waittaqoohu waateeAAooni

Adorez Allah, craignez-Le et obéissez-moi,

"That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me:

يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ[4]

Yaghfir lakum min thunoobikum wayuakhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala Allahi itha jaa la yuakhkharu law kuntum taAAlamoona

pour qu'Il vous pardonne vos péchés et qu'Il vous donne un délai jusqu'à un terme fixé. Mais quand vient le terme fixé par Allah, il ne saurait être différé si vous saviez!»

"So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew."

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا[5]

Qala rabbi innee daAAawtu qawmee laylan wanaharan

Il dit: «Seigneur! J'ai appelé mon peuple, nuit et jour.

He said: "O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day:

فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا[6]

Falam yazidhum duAAaee illa firaran

Mais mon appel n'a fait qu'accroître leur fuite.

"But my call only increases (their) flight (from the Right).

وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ اسْتِكْبَارًا[7]

Wainnee kullama daAAawtuhum litaghfira lahum jaAAaloo asabiAAahum fee athanihim waistaghshaw thiyabahum waasarroo waistakbaroo istikbaran

Et chaque fois que je les ai appelés pour que Tu leur pardonnes, ils ont mis leurs doigts dans leurs oreilles. se sont enveloppés de leurs vêtements, se sont entêtés et se sont montrés extrêmement orgueilleux.

"And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance.

ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا[8]

Thumma innee daAAawtuhum jiharan

Ensuite, je les ai appelés ouvertement.

"So I have called to them aloud;

ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا[9]

Thumma innee aAAlantu lahum waasrartu lahum israran

Puis, je leur ai fait des proclamations publiques, et des confidences en secret.

"Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private,

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا[10]

Faqultu istaghfiroo rabbakum innahu kana ghaffaran

J'ai donc dit: «Implorez le pardon de votre Seigneur, car Il est grand Pardonneur,

"Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving;

يُرْسِلِ السَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا[11]

Yursili alssamaa AAalaykum midraran

pour qu'Il vous envoie du ciel, des pluies abondantes,

"'He will send rain to you in abundance;

وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَٰرًا[12]

Wayumdidkum biamwalin wabaneena wayajAAal lakum jannatin wayajAAal lakum anharan

et qu'Il vous accorde beaucoup de biens et d'enfants, et vous donne des jardins et vous donne des rivières.

"'Give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers (of flowing water).

مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا[13]

Ma lakum la tarjoona lillahi waqaran

Qu'avez-vous à ne pas vénérer Allah comme il se doit,

"'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,-

وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا[14]

Waqad khalaqakum atwaran

alors qu'Il vous a créés par phases successives?

"'Seeing that it is He that has created you in diverse stages?

أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا[15]

Alam taraw kayfa khalaqa Allahu sabAAa samawatin tibaqan

N'avez-vous pas vu comment Allah a créé sept cieux superposés

"'See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another,

وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا[16]

WajaAAala alqamara feehinna nooran wajaAAala alshshamsa sirajan

et y a fait de la lune une lumière et du soleil une lampe?

"'And made the moon a light in their midst, and made the sun as a (Glorious) Lamp?

وَاللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا[17]

WaAllahu anbatakum mina alardi nabatan

Et c'est Allah qui, de la terre, vous a fait croître comme des plantes,

"'And Allah has produced you from the earth growing (gradually),

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا[18]

Thumma yuAAeedukum feeha wayukhrijukum ikhrajan

puis Il vous y fera retourner et vous en fera sortir véritablement.

"'And in the End He will return you into the (earth), and raise you forth (again at the Resurrection)?

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا[19]

WaAllahu jaAAala lakumu alarda bisatan

Et c'est Allah qui vous a fait de la terre un tapis,

"'And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out),

لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا[20]

Litaslukoo minha subulan fijajan

pour que vous vous acheminiez par ses voies spacieuses».

"'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'"

قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَاتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا[21]

Qala noohun rabbi innahum AAasawnee waittabaAAoo man lam yazidhu maluhu wawaladuhu illa khasaran

Noé dit: «Seigneur, ils m'ont désobéi et ils ont suivi celui dont les biens et les enfants n'ont fait qu'accroître la perte.

Noah said: "O my Lord! They have disobeyed me, but they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them no increase but only Loss.

وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا[22]

Wamakaroo makran kubbaran

Ils ont ourdi un immense stratagème,

"And they have devised a tremendous Plot.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا[23]

Waqaloo la tatharunna alihatakum wala tatharunna waddan wala suwaAAan wala yaghootha wayaAAooqa wanasran

et ils ont dit: «N'abandonnez jamais vos divinités et n'abandonnez jamais Wadd, Suwâ, Yaghhû, Ya'ûq et Nasr'.

"And they have said (to each other), 'Abandon not your gods: Abandon neither Wadd nor Suwa', neither Yaguth nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr';-

وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَٰلًا[24]

Waqad adalloo katheeran wala tazidi alththalimeena illa dalalan

Elles [les idoles] ont déjà égaré plusieurs. Ne fais (Seigneur) croître les injustes qu'en égarement.

"They have already misled many; and grant Thou no increase to the wrong-doers but in straying (from their mark)."

مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنصَارًا[25]

Mimma khateeatihim oghriqoo faodkhiloo naran falam yajidoo lahum min dooni Allahi ansaran

A cause de leurs fautes, ils ont été noyés, puis on les a fait entrer au Feu, et ils n'ont pas trouvé en dehors d'Allah, de secoureurs».

Because of their sins they were drowned (in the flood), and were made to enter the Fire (of Punishment): and they found- in lieu of Allah- none to help them.

وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا[26]

Waqala noohun rabbi la tathar AAala alardi mina alkafireena dayyaran

Et Noé dit: «Seigneur, ne laisse sur la terre aucun infidèle.

And Noah, said: "O my Lord! Leave not of the Unbelievers, a single one on earth!

إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا[27]

Innaka in tatharhum yudilloo AAibadaka wala yalidoo illa fajiran kaffaran

Si Tu les laisses [en vie], ils égareront Tes serviteurs et n'engendreront que des pécheurs infidèles.

"For, if Thou dost leave (any of) them, they will but mislead Thy devotees, and they will breed none but wicked ungrateful ones.

رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا[28]

Rabbi ighfir lee waliwalidayya waliman dakhala baytiya muminan walilmumineena waalmuminati wala tazidi alththalimeena illa tabaran

Seigneur! Pardonne-moi, et à mes père et mère et à celui qui entre dans ma demeure croyant, ainsi qu'aux croyants et croyantes; et ne fais croître les injustes qu'en perdition».

"O my Lord! Forgive me, my parents, all who enter my house in Faith, and (all) believing men and believing women: and to the wrong-doers grant Thou no increase but in perdition!"
