بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى الْإِنسَٰنِ حِينٌ مِّنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًٔا مَّذْكُورًا[1]

Hal ata AAala alinsani heenun mina alddahri lam yakun shayan mathkooran

S'est-il écoulé pour l'homme un laps de temps durant lequel il n'était même pas une chose mentionnable?

Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned?

إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا[2]

Inna khalaqna alinsana min nutfatin amshajin nabtaleehi fajaAAalnahu sameeAAan baseeran

En effet, Nous avons créé l'homme d'une goutte de sperme mélangé [aux composantes diverses] pour le mettre à l'épreuve. [C'est pourquoi] Nous l'avons fait entendant et voyant.

Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.

إِنَّا هَدَيْنَٰهُ السَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا[3]

Inna hadaynahu alssabeela imma shakiran waimma kafooran

Nous l'avons guidé dans le chemin, - qu'il soit reconnaissant ou ingrat -

We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).

إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغْلَٰلًا وَسَعِيرًا[4]

Inna aAAtadna lilkafireena salasila waaghlalan wasaAAeeran

Nous avons préparé pour les infidèles des chaînes, des carcans et une fournaise ardente.

For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire.

إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا[5]

Inna alabrara yashraboona min kasin kana mizajuha kafooran

Les vertueux boiront d'une coupe dont le mélange sera de camphre,

As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,-

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ اللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْجِيرًا[6]

AAaynan yashrabu biha AAibadu Allahi yufajjiroonaha tafjeeran

d'une source de laquelle boiront les serviteurs d'Allah et ils la feront jaillir en abondance.

A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance.

يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسْتَطِيرًا[7]

Yoofoona bialnnathri wayakhafoona yawman kana sharruhu mustateeran

Ils accomplissent leurs vœux et ils redoutent un jour dont le mal s'étendra partout.

They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide.

وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا[8]

WayutAAimona alttaAAama AAala hubbihi miskeenan wayateeman waaseeran

et offrent la nourriture, malgré son amour, au pauvre, à l'orphelin et au prisonnier,

And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-

إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءً وَلَا شُكُورًا[9]

Innama nutAAimukum liwajhi Allahi la nureedu minkum jazaan wala shukooran

(disant): «C'est pour le visage d'Allah que nous vous nourrissons: nous ne voulons de vous ni récompense ni gratitude.

(Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.

إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًا قَمْطَرِيرًا[10]

Inna nakhafu min rabbina yawman AAaboosan qamtareeran

Nous redoutons, de notre Seigneur, un jour terrible et catastrophique».

"We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord."

فَوَقَىٰهُمُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُورًا[11]

Fawaqahumu Allahu sharra thalika alyawmi walaqqahum nadratan wasurooran

Allah les protègera donc du mal de ce jour-là, et leur fera rencontrer la splendeur et la joie,

But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy.

وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ جَنَّةً وَحَرِيرًا[12]

Wajazahum bima sabaroo jannatan wahareeran

et les rétribuera pour ce qu'ils auront enduré, en leur donnant le Paradis et des [vêtements] de soie,

And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk.

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَآئِكِ ۖ لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا[13]

Muttakieena feeha AAala alaraiki la yarawna feeha shamsan wala zamhareeran

ils y seront accoudés sur des divans, n'y voyant ni soleil ni froid glacial.

Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold.

وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْلِيلًا[14]

Wadaniyatan AAalayhim thilaluha wathullilat qutoofuha tathleelan

Ses ombrages les couvriront de près, et ses fruits inclinés bien bas [à portée de leurs mains].

And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility.

وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِـَٔانِيَةٍ مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ كَانَتْ قَوَارِيرَا۠[15]

Wayutafu AAalayhim bianiyatin min fiddatin waakwabin kanat qawareera

Et l'on fera circuler parmi eux des récipients d'argent et des coupes cristallines,

And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,-

قَوَارِيرَا۟ مِن فِضَّةٍ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْدِيرًا[16]

Qawareera min fiddatin qaddarooha taqdeeran

en cristal d'argent, dont le contenu a été savamment dosé.

Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes).

وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا[17]

Wayusqawna feeha kasan kana mizajuha zanjabeelan

Et là, ils seront abreuvés d'une coupe dont le mélange sera de gingembre,

And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,-

عَيْنًا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًا[18]

AAaynan feeha tusamma salsabeelan

puisé là-dedans à une source qui s'appelle Salsabîl.

A fountain there, called Salsabil.

۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤًا مَّنثُورًا[19]

Wayatoofu AAalayhim wildanun mukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum luluan manthooran

Et parmi eux, circuleront des garçons éternellement jeunes. Quand tu les verras, tu les prendras pour des perles éparpillées.

And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls.

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيمًا وَمُلْكًا كَبِيرًا[20]

Waitha raayta thamma raayta naAAeeman wamulkan kabeeran

Et quand tu regarderas là-bas, tu verras un délice et un vaste royaume.

And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent.

عَٰلِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضْرٌ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌ ۖ وَحُلُّوٓا۟ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ وَسَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَابًا طَهُورًا[21]

AAaliyahum thiyabu sundusin khudrun waistabraqun wahulloo asawira min fiddatin wasaqahum rabbuhum sharaban tahooran

Ils porteront des vêtements verts de satin et de brocart. Et ils seront parés de bracelets d'argent. Et leur Seigneur les abreuvera d'une boisson très pure.

Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَآءً وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُم مَّشْكُورًا[22]

Inna hatha kana lakum jazaan wakana saAAyukum mashkooran

Cela sera pour vous une récompense, et votre effort sera reconnu.

"Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised."

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْءَانَ تَنزِيلًا[23]

Inna nahnu nazzalna AAalayka alqurana tanzeelan

En vérité c'est Nous qui avons fait descendre sur toi le Coran graduellement.

It is We Who have sent down the Qur'an to thee by stages.

فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ ءَاثِمًا أَوْ كَفُورًا[24]

Faisbir lihukmi rabbika wala tutiAA minhum athiman aw kafooran

Endure donc ce que ton Seigneur a décrété, et n'obéis ni au pécheur, parmi eux, ni au grand mécréant.

Therefore be patient with constancy to the Command of thy Lord, and hearken not to the sinner or the ingrate among them.

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا[25]

Waothkuri isma rabbika bukratan waaseelan

Et invoque le nom de ton Seigneur, matin et après-midi;

And celebrate the name of thy Lord morning and evening,

وَمِنَ الَّيْلِ فَاسْجُدْ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا[26]

Wamina allayli faosjud lahu wasabbihhu laylan taweelan

et prosterne-toi devant Lui une partie de la nuit; et glorifie-Le de longues [heures] pendant la nuit.

And part of the night, prostrate thyself to Him; and glorify Him a long night through.

إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا[27]

Inna haolai yuhibboona alAAajilata wayatharoona waraahum yawman thaqeelan

Ces gens-là aiment [la vie] éphémère (la vie sur terre) et laissent derrière eux un jour bien lourd [le Jour du Jugement].

As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.

نَّحْنُ خَلَقْنَٰهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَآ أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَآ أَمْثَٰلَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا[28]

Nahnu khalaqnahum washadadna asrahum waitha shina baddalna amthalahum tabdeelan

C'est Nous qui les avons créés et avons fortifié leur constitution. Quand Nous voulons, cependant, Nous les remplaçons [facilement] par leurs semblables.

It is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; but, when We will, We can substitute the like of them by a complete change.

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا[29]

Inna hathihi tathkiratun faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeelan

Ceci est un rappel. Que celui qui veut prenne donc le chemin vers son Seigneur!

This is an admonition: Whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا[30]

Wama tashaoona illa an yashaa Allahu inna Allaha kana AAaleeman hakeeman

Cependant, vous ne saurez vouloir, à moins qu'Allah veuille. Et Allah est Omniscient et Sage.

But ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ وَالظَّٰلِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۢا[31]

Yudkhilu man yashao fee rahmatihi waalththalimeena aAAadda lahum AAathaban aleeman

Il fait entrer qui Il veut dans Sa miséricorde. Et quant aux injustes, Il leur a préparé un châtiment douloureux.

He will admit to His Mercy whom He will; But the wrong-doers,- for them has He prepared a grievous Penalty.
