بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا السَّمَآءُ انفَطَرَتْ[1]

Itha alssamao infatarat

Quand le ciel se rompra,

When the Sky is cleft asunder;

وَإِذَا الْكَوَاكِبُ انتَثَرَتْ[2]

Waitha alkawakibu intatharat

et que les étoiles se disperseront,

When the Stars are scattered;

وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ[3]

Waitha albiharu fujjirat

et que les mers confondront leurs eaux,

When the Oceans are suffered to burst forth;

وَإِذَا الْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ[4]

Waitha alqubooru buAAthirat

et que les tombeaux seront bouleversés,

And when the Graves are turned upside down;-

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ[5]

AAalimat nafsun ma qaddamat waakhkharat

toute âme saura alors ce qu'elle a accompli et ce qu'elle a remis de faire à plus tard.

(Then) shall each soul know what it hath sent forward and (what it hath) kept back.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا الْإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ[6]

Ya ayyuha alinsanu ma gharraka birabbika alkareemi

O homme! Qu'est-ce qui t'a trompé au sujet de ton Seigneur, le Noble,

O man! What has seduced thee from thy Lord Most Beneficent?-

الَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ[7]

Allathee khalaqaka fasawwaka faAAadalaka

qui t'a créé, puis modelé et constitué harmonieusement?

Him Who created thee. Fashioned thee in due proportion, and gave thee a just bias;

فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ[8]

Fee ayyi sooratin ma shaa rakkabaka

Il t'a façonné dans la forme qu'Il a voulue.

In whatever Form He wills, does He put thee together.

كَلَّا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ[9]

Kalla bal tukaththiboona bialddeeni

Non...! [malgré tout] vous traitez la Rétribution de mensonge;

Nay! But ye do reject Right and Judgment!

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَٰفِظِينَ[10]

Wainna AAalaykum lahafitheena

alors que veillent sur vous des gardiens,

But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you,-

كِرَامًا كَٰتِبِينَ[11]

Kiraman katibeena

de nobles scribes,

Kind and honourable,- Writing down (your deeds):

يَعْلَمُونَ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ[12]

YaAAlamoona ma tafAAaloona

qui savent ce que vous faites.

They know (and understand) all that ye do.

إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ[13]

Inna alabrara lafee naAAeemin

Les bons seront, certes, dans un [jardin] de délice,

As for the Righteous, they will be in bliss;

وَإِنَّ الْفُجَّارَ لَفِى جَحِيمٍ[14]

Wainna alfujjara lafee jaheemin

et les libertins seront, certes, dans une fournaise

And the Wicked - they will be in the Fire,

يَصْلَوْنَهَا يَوْمَ الدِّينِ[15]

Yaslawnaha yawma alddeeni

où ils brûleront, le jour de la Rétribution

Which they will enter on the Day of Judgment,

وَمَا هُمْ عَنْهَا بِغَآئِبِينَ[16]

Wama hum AAanha bighaibeena

incapables de s'en échapper.

And they will not be able to keep away therefrom.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ[17]

Wama adraka ma yawmu alddeeni

Et qui te dira ce qu'est le jour de la Rétribution?

And what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is?

ثُمَّ مَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ[18]

Thumma ma adraka ma yawmu alddeeni

Encore une fois, qui te dira ce qu'est le jour de la Rétribution?

Again, what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is?

يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَالْأَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلَّهِ[19]

Yawma la tamliku nafsun linafsin shayan waalamru yawmaithin lillahi

Le jour où aucune âme ne pourra rien en faveur d'une autre âme. Et ce jour-là, le commandement sera à Allah.

(It will be) the Day when no soul shall have power (to do) aught for another: For the command, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah.
