بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ إِذَا السَّمَآءُ انشَقَّتْ[1]

Itha alssamao inshaqqat

Quand le ciel se déchirera

When the sky is rent asunder,

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ[2]

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

et obéira à son Seigneur - et fera ce qu'il doit faire -

And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);-

وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ[3]

Waitha alardu muddat

et que la terre sera nivelée,

And when the earth is flattened out,

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ[4]

Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat

et qu'elle rejettera ce qui est en son sein (les morts) et se videra,

And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty,

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ[5]

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

et qu'elle obéira à son Seigneur - et fera ce qu'elle doit faire -

And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality).

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا الْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ[6]

Ya ayyuha alinsanu innaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhan famulaqeehi

O homme! Toi qui t'efforces vers ton Seigneur sans relâche, tu Le rencontreras alors.

O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ[7]

Faama man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi

Celui qui recevra son livre en sa main droite,

Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا[8]

Fasawfa yuhasabu hisaban yaseeran

sera soumis à un jugement facile,

Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا[9]

Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masrooran

et retournera réjoui auprès de sa famille

And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ[10]

Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraa thahrihi

Quant à celui qui recevra son livre derrière son dos,

But he who is given his Record behind his back,-

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا[11]

Fasawfa yadAAoo thubooran

il invoquera la destruction sur lui-même,

Soon will he cry for perdition,

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا[12]

Wayasla saAAeeran

et il brûlera dans un feu ardent.

And he will enter a Blazing Fire.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا[13]

Innahu kana fee ahlihi masrooran

Car il était tout joyeux parmi les siens,

Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ[14]

Innahu thanna an lan yahoora

et il pensait que jamais il ne ressusciterait

Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا[15]

Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseeran

Mais si! Certes, son Seigneur l'observait parfaitement.

Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him!

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ[16]

Fala oqsimu bialshshafaqi

Non!... Je jure par le crépuscule,

So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;

وَالَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ[17]

Waallayli wama wasaqa

et par la nuit et ce qu'elle enveloppe,

The Night and its Homing;

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ[18]

Waalqamari itha ittasaqa

et par la lune quand elle devient pleine lune!

And the Moon in her fullness:

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ[19]

Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaqin

Vous passerez, certes, par des états successifs!

Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage.

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ[20]

Fama lahum la yuminoona

Qu'ont-ils à ne pas croire?

What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?-

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩[21]

Waitha quria AAalayhimu alquranu la yasjudoona

et à ne pas se prosterner quand le Coran leur est lu?

And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ[22]

Bali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboona

Mais ceux qui ne croient pas, le traitent plutôt de mensonge.

But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).

وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ[23]

WaAllahu aAAlamu bima yooAAoona

Or, Allah sait bien ce qu'ils dissimulent.

But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ[24]

Fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleemin

Annonce-leur donc un châtiment douloureux.

So announce to them a Penalty Grievous,

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ الصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ[25]

Illa allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati lahum ajrun ghayru mamnoonin

Sauf ceux qui croient et accomplissent les bonnes œuvres: à eux une récompense jamais interrompue.

Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail.
