بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالسَّمَآءِ وَالطَّارِقِ[1]

Waalssamai waalttariqi

Par le ciel et par l'astre nocturne

By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ[2]

Wama adraka ma alttariqu

Et qui te dira ce qu'est l'astre nocturne?

And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-

النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ[3]

Alnnajmu alththaqibu

C'est l'étoile vivement brillante.

(It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ[4]

In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun

Il n'est pas d'âme qui n'ait sur elle un gardien.

There is no soul but has a protector over it.

فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ[5]

Falyanthuri alinsanu mimma khuliqa

Que l'homme considère donc de quoi il a été créé.

Now let man but think from what he is created!

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ[6]

Khuliqa min main dafiqin

Il a été créé d'une giclée d'eau

He is created from a drop emitted-

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَآئِبِ[7]

Yakhruju min bayni alssulbi waalttaraibi

sortie d'entre les lombes et les côtes.

Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ[8]

Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun

Allah est certes capable de le ressusciter.

Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَآئِرُ[9]

Yawma tubla alssarairu

Le jour où les cœurs dévoileront leurs secrets,

The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ[10]

Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin

Il n'aura alors ni force ni secoureur.

(Man) will have no power, and no helper.

وَالسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ[11]

Waalssamai thati alrrajAAi

Par le ciel qui fait revenir la pluie!

By the Firmament which returns (in its round),

وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ[12]

Waalardi thati alssadAAi

et par la terre qui se fend!

And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),-

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ[13]

Innahu laqawlun faslun

Ceci [le Coran] est certes, une parole décisive [qui tranche entre le vrai et le faux],

Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):

وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ[14]

Wama huwa bialhazli

et non point une plaisanterie frivole!

It is not a thing for amusement.

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا[15]

Innahum yakeedoona kaydan

Ils se servent d'une ruse,

As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا[16]

Waakeedu kaydan

et Moi aussi Je me sers de Mon plan.

And I am planning a scheme.

فَمَهِّلِ الْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا[17]

Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan

Accorde (ô Prophète) donc un délai aux infidèles: accorde-leur un court délai.

Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile).
