بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَٰشِيَةِ[1]

Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyati

T'est-il parvenu le récit de l'enveloppante?

Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)?

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ[2]

Wujoohun yawmaithin khashiAAatun

Ce jour-là, il y aura des visages humiliés,

Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ[3]

AAamilatun nasibatun

préoccupés, harassés.

Labouring (hard), weary,-

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً[4]

Tasla naran hamiyatan

Ils brûleront dans un Feu ardent,

The while they enter the Blazing Fire,-

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ[5]

Tusqa min AAaynin aniyatin

et seront abreuvés d'une source bouillante.

The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ[6]

Laysa lahum taAAamun illa min dareeAAin

Il n'y aura pour eux d'autre nourriture que des plantes épineuses [darî'],

No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari'

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ[7]

La yusminu wala yughnee min jooAAin

qui n'engraisse, ni n'apaise la faim.

Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ[8]

Wujoohun yawmaithin naAAimatun

Ce jour-là, il y aura des visages épanouis,

(Other) faces that Day will be joyful,

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ[9]

LisaAAyiha radiyatun

contents de leurs efforts,

Pleased with their striving,-

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ[10]

Fee jannatin AAaliyatin

dans un haut Jardin,

In a Garden on high,

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةً[11]

La tasmaAAu feeha laghiyatan

où ils n'entendent aucune futilité.

Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ[12]

Feeha AAaynun jariyatun

Là, il y aura une source coulante.

Therein will be a bubbling spring:

فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ[13]

Feeha sururun marfooAAatun

Là, des divans élevés

Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ[14]

Waakwabun mawdooAAatun

et des coupes posées

Goblets placed (ready),

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ[15]

Wanamariqu masfoofatun

et des coussins rangés

And cushions set in rows,

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ[16]

Wazarabiyyu mabthoothatun

et des tapis étalés.

And rich carpets (all) spread out.

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ[17]

Afala yanthuroona ila alibili kayfa khuliqat

Ne considèrent-ils donc pas les chameaux, comment ils ont été créés,

Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?-

وَإِلَى السَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ[18]

Waila alssamai kayfa rufiAAat

et le ciel comment il est élevé,

And at the Sky, how it is raised high?-

وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ[19]

Waila aljibali kayfa nusibat

et les montagnes comment elles sont dressées

And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?-

وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ[20]

Waila alardi kayfa sutihat

et la terre comment elle est nivelée?

And at the Earth, how it is spread out?

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ[21]

Fathakkir innama anta muthakkirun

Eh bien, rappelle! Tu n'es qu'un rappeleur,

Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish.

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ[22]

Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytirin

et tu n'es pas un dominateur sur eux.

Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ[23]

Illa man tawalla wakafara

Sauf celui qui tourne le dos et ne croit pas,

But if any turn away and reject Allah,-

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ[24]

FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathaba alakbara

alors Allah le châtiera du plus grand châtiment.

Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment,

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ[25]

Inna ilayna iyabahum

Vers Nous est leur retour.

For to Us will be their return;

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم[26]

Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum

Ensuite, c'est à Nous de leur demander compte.

Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
