بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًا[1]

WaalAAadiyati dabhan

Par les coursiers qui halètent,

By the (Steeds) that run, with panting (breath),

فَالْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًا[2]

Faalmooriyati qadhan

qui font jaillir des étincelles,

And strike sparks of fire,

فَالْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًا[3]

Faalmugheerati subhan

qui attaquent au matin,

And push home the charge in the morning,

فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا[4]

Faatharna bihi naqAAan

et font ainsi voler la poussière,

And raise the dust in clouds the while,

فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا[5]

Fawasatna bihi jamAAan

et pénètrent au centre de la troupe ennemie.

And penetrate forthwith into the midst (of the foe) en masse;-

إِنَّ الْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌ[6]

Inna alinsana lirabbihi lakanoodun

L'homme est, certes, ingrat envers son Seigneur;

Truly man is, to his Lord, ungrateful;

وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ[7]

Wainnahu AAala thalika lashaheedun

et pourtant, il est certes, témoin de cela;

And to that (fact) he bears witness (by his deeds);

وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ[8]

Wainnahu lihubbi alkhayri lashadeedun

et pour l'amour des richesses il est certes ardent.

And violent is he in his love of wealth.

۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى الْقُبُورِ[9]

Afala yaAAlamu itha buAAthira ma fee alquboori

Ne sait-il donc pas que lorsque ce qui est dans les tombes sera bouleversé,

Does he not know,- when that which is in the graves is scattered abroad

وَحُصِّلَ مَا فِى الصُّدُورِ[10]

Wahussila ma fee alssudoori

et que sera dévoilé ce qui est dans les poitrines,

And that which is (locked up) in (human) breasts is made manifest-

إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌۢ[11]

Inna rabbahum bihim yawmaithin lakhabeerun

ce jour-là, certes, leur Seigneur sera Parfaitement Connaisseur d'eux?

That their Lord had been Well-acquainted with them, (even to) that Day?
