بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَٰبِ الْفِيلِ[1]

Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biashabi alfeeli

N'as-tu pas vu comment ton Seigneur a agi envers les gens de l'Eléphant?

Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the Companions of the Elephant?

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍ[2]

Alam yajAAal kaydahum fee tadleelin

N'a-t-Il pas rendu leur ruse complètement vaine?

Did He not make their treacherous plan go astray?

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ[3]

Waarsala AAalayhim tayran ababeela

et envoyé sur eux des oiseaux par volées

And He sent against them Flights of Birds,

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ[4]

Tarmeehim bihijaratin min sijjeelin

qui leur lançaient des pierres d'argile?

Striking them with stones of baked clay.

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍۭ[5]

FajaAAalahum kaAAasfin makoolin

Et Il les a rendus semblables à une paille mâchée.

Then did He make them like an empty field of stalks and straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up.
