Assume that a kitten has a 50/50 chance to be male or female. Today, my cat just delivered two adorable kittens. My veterinarian said that at least one of them is female.
What is the probability that the other kitten is a male?
The answer is: 66% and here is why:
There are 4 possible outcomes: female-female, female-male, male-male and male-female.
We can throw out the male-male concept as we know at least one kitten is female. We are now left with 3 possible outcomes. Only in case both kittens are female there will not be a male kitten, which means that in the other two cases there is a male kitten.
Simply put, in two out of three possible cases, the kitten is a male, which means the chances are 2/3 or 66%.
