The Persian culture has a tradition of egg decorating, which takes place during the spring equinox. This time marks the Persian New Year, and is called Nowruz. Family members decorate eggs happily together and place them in a bowl on 'Haft-seen', a major traditional table setting of Nowruz. Haft-Seen table includes seven symbolic or iconic items starting with the letter 'S' or 'Seen' in the Persian alphabet.
