What is 3G ?

The G in 3G network stands for "Generation" and 3G Network stands for the "Third Generation"of telecommunication hardware standards and general technology for mobile networking . You will be continuing with 2G/2.5G services in areas where 3G coverage is absent. In that case you have to ensure that your network setting on handset is on dual mode(GSM/WCDMA Auto Mode).

Will 3G network be available across the country?

Teletalk has already launched 3G services in Dhaka and in its surroundings such as Gazipur, Narayanganj and Savar. It is going to be expanded to Chittagong, Sylhet and Cox’sbazar by June 2013. Depending on its success TBL is going to expand the 3G coverage across the country in phases.

How could I get 3G access if I am outside the home network?

You can access 3G services while roaming outside the home network if you have roaming facility and under an operator who has 3G Coverage and has roaming agreement with TBL.

Do I require to replace my existing 2G SIM card to avail 3G services ?

3G will work on your existing 2G SIM card by switching to 3G packages. So you need not replace your existing SIM card. To switch to 3G just go to message option, type 3g and send to 666 with balance of at least Tk.500 in your account. Within 72 hours upgradation will be completed and you will be notified accordingly. If your mobile is not converted to 3G as mentioned, you may call to Teletalk helpline-121.

How do I connect to Teletalk 3G networks ?

If you are first time user please follow the steps as given below to connect to Teletalk 3G network :- Step-1: Get a USIM with connection/ Upgrade your existing SIM to 3G package. Step-2: Select network mode to "Dual/WCDMA/3G/UMTS". For data usage dual option  might be avoided. Step-3: Configure your packet data settings with APN "wap" or type "set" and send to 738 to get a message which you need to save with password "1234" in your mobile. Step-4: After registration, seeing 3G/3.5G/H network symbol on your device and  enabling your device data transfer, instantly you may start enjoying 3G services.

On what factors does 3G speed depend?

Firstly speed depends on handset, coverage, network traffic and number of users currently using the 3G network at a certain point at a particular point of time. Which handsets are compatible with 3G network ?

Definitely a smart phone but every smart phone, despite being expensive, may not support all features. Technically, R99 , HSPA and HSPA+ supported handsets are compatible with 3G network and will at least support the Voice Service. But, regarding availability of Data Services the availability varies with type of handsets. What are the advantages of 3G over 2G ?

3G has superseded 2G technology and precedes 4G technology. What does it mean by E, 3G and H or 3.5G as network symbol in Mobile Stations?

H or 3.5 G stands for HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is a new generation communication protocol that allows data connections up to 14.4Mbps download speed and up to 5.8Mbps upload speed per user in good coverage and quality conditions. 3G means WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) that is a 3G technology version that allows data connections up to 2 Mbps per user in good coverage and quality conditions. What is the difference between 3G and Wi MAX?

The WiMAX standard is used mostly only for transferring data although echo-system which supports voice using WiMAX technology is not available as of today at affordable price. A WiMAX network is more similar in function to a large, integrated Wi-Fi network although data handover facility is there.
