TIRUPATI:
Geography:
Tirupati is a major pilgrimage and cultural city in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It has an average elevation of 162 metres (531 feet). The Tirumala Hill is 3200 ft above sea level, and is about 10.33 sq miles in area. The seven peaks, represents the seven hoods of Adisesha (Seshachalam) Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrishabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri.
History:
The word Tirupati is derived from both Telugu and Tamil. Pati means husband and is used here as Pati of his Pathni Sri Lakshmi devi. Tiru means 'holy' or 'sacred'. Tiru means holy and mala means hill. There is no clear history on the origin of the temple of Lord Venkateshwara, but it was maintained and upgraded by various kingdoms like the Pallava Kingdom, Chola Kingdom around and the Vijayanagara Empire.
Culture:
People from different places of India lives in tirupati and Telugu is the language spoken by most of the people. All major Hindu festivals including Deepavali, Sankranti, Vaikunta Ekadasi, Rama Navami and Krishnashtami with gearter joy. BRAHMOSTAVA is the most important festival in tirumala. Because of its devotion,tradition and culture many piligrims from all over world visits Tirupati.
